It works
4 years later without issue. My GSD uses it hundreds of times a day.

Tricky to assemble and install but does the job
Pro: The materials are quality, sturdy, and the instructions are clear. The unit is well designed but requires some facility with tools to assemble and install and the ability to solve a few minor engineering problems because sliding doors are not particularly standardized and this device is a one-size-fits-all. Cons: 1. It only comes in one color (unless I missed something): white. My sliding door happens to be "Ivory" so I either will have to paint it or live with it. 2. The flap is very well made, built like a 3-section double-pane window (apparently for insulation) but doesn't work for our small dog, a miniature dachshund with a sensitive pointy nose. I suppose it would work better for a heavy or large flat-face hard-headed dog like a bulldog or pit-bull. So I removed the bottom two of the three horizontal segments and taped two vertical light plastic strips with bottom weights in their place. Now the dog scoots in and out through the center. An optional clear single-thickness plastic flap that could be split vertically in the center would be a good product improvement. 3. My main beef, no fault of the manufacturer, is that it doesn't work well on a 6-foot wide door, which has a 3-foot opening, is because after installation you are left with only a 2-foot opening. Fortunately we are not big people but it is an inconvenience, especially if you need to move a large chair or a table in or out. Once installed it can be removed by lifting off its hooks, but this type of unit is more suitable for an 8-foot wide sliding door. Also the sliding screen door has to be closed all the way, blocking the doggie door, or there will be an open space at the free end for bugs. Luckily we don't have many bugs. Conclusion: This well-made, high quality, reasonably priced device is perfect for a strong, flat-faced hard-headed dog when it's placed into a white vinyl 8-foot sliding door. When I get time I will replace it with a through-the wall unit. .

Needed for Installation of Ruff Weather Doggie Door
This is a part that is required if installing the Ruff Weather Doggie Door in the wall. It should be included with the door kit, and don’t understand why it is not. All the other doors come with the „bridge“ for the door cut out, but not this one. The part is sturdy and closes the opening, making it weatherproof from wet dogs coming in, and keeping the bad weather from affecting your walls. Very much worth the price when you don’t want water in your walls and house.

Must seal with caulk or silicone.
First let me just say that This should have been included with the doggie door, since the door says it fits doors and walls up to 7 1/2 inches.. but it does not unless you also buy this insert... but I digress.. This insert works as advertised, but it is very difficult to cut to size if your wall is in between sizes of the precut areas. I had to use a dremel and file down the rough edges. After that it was just putting it in place and sealing it up. Which you must do as the doggie door that says it is weather proof is not. Rain came right in and got under the insert the first day after I installed it. So make sure you seal it up after installation.

Largest size: Sturdy enough for a Bronto
Installation of the largest size dog door was a bit hard because it's wider than the joist spacing in our house, but there's no way around that and it's not the fault of the product. The dogs now have access to the outdoors at will, which is surprisingly frequent. The flaps magnetically seal and keep the house from becoming a wind tunnel even during high winds. The no-access sliding door is strong enough to keep a willful Bronto from barging into the house even at full speed. (Think "Here Fifi! Faster!" from The Far Side.) It's a very well designed product. I recommend installing it somewhere without high speed straight line access for the dogs. Use the same entrance safety techniques as seen at embassies worldwide: there should be a 90 degree turn immediately before entering the door and another 90 degree turn after entry to keep entry speed down.

Not Happy
I rarely write reviews unless I’m pleasantly surprised by the quality or usefulness of a product, or unless I’m extremely dissatisfied with a product. Unfortunately, in this case it is the latter. After purchasing the dog door I discovered that in order to install it in a wall I’d need this extension kit. All I really needed was the longer screws but I couldn’t find them ANYWHERE, including online. So I paid the $30+ for this kit. To begin with, the plastic insert is super flimsy. You “adjust” the width by breaking off sections of each of the six panels with a pair of vice grips as per included instructions. After I followed the directions, breaking of the sections I had marked, the insert still did not fit correctly. I opted to leave it out. Next, the screws. You have 8 nine inch screws. Again, as per the instructions included with this kit, in order to “adjust” the screws to fit correctly, you must cut the screws using a clamp and hacksaw. Have you ever tried cutting a 1/4” screw with a hacksaw?? It’s not an easy task. A nut is supplied to screw onto the screw above the cut. This is so you can unscrew the nut over the cut you make and, hopefully, realign the threads. Let me explain this further...while trying to saw this screw you need to be sure to not saw across a thread which is virtually impossible. If you can get a cut about a quarter of the way through the screw you can use your vice grips to break the screw off the rest of the way. This is my recommendation. You then have to clamp the screw and force the nut off the screw with a wrench. Keep in mind you must do this for all 8 screws! After sawing and twisting these screws and nuts, the chance that they are still straight is also virtually impossible. After all of my “adjustments”, the plastic liner is in the trash and only six of the eight screws actually worked. That should be enough to hold it in place. My advice would be to avoid this kit and to do a little research the find (8) 1/4x20x6 or 7” screws depending on the wall thickness. If you can find these screws you’ll save about $30, an hour of your time, and a lot less frustration!

GARBAGE!! DO NOT BUY!!!
Absolute garbage. This item makes it so the door doesnt close properly at all. But what can I do now, with a giant hole in my wall just have to go with it and let all the bugs ..rain..snow and wind into my house apparently . Can NOT BELIEVE how much it cost for this piece of crap that doesnt so what its suppose to at all. It doesn't attach to the door. Except for 2 little pieces of double sided tape that dont do basically anything. So its just kind of floating in the middle with air gaps and it isn't flush so the flaps catch on it..GARBAGE!!! Only but the door if you plan on installing it in a door!
