If only...

Great add on to make Cardinal's excellent safety gates (both the indoor & outdoor versions) fit openings over 42.5". Looks great, super easy to add to the installation with just a couple bolts & washers. That's where it gets quirky The gates themselves, all 3 color choices, come w/stainless steel hardware (outdoor gates), but the indoor gate hardware is not ss. The extenders have ss hardware for only the brown version. You can either use a brown extender with black or white gates, buy a ss hardware pack (3 bolts + 3 washers) to replace what comes packaged, or go buy those pieces at a local hardware store for $2 or so. Seems like an avoidable customer inconvenience w/ an easy customer centric solution that would be pennies to just upgrade these pieces in all extensions.

Did you know that squirrels will stop and watch you work on your projects and rate your efforts from one to ten? I installed this thing with ease and it is very sturdy. I was worried about it being a little flimsy. Anyway, I got a 2. I really hate squirrels.

Doesn't fit all SS-30 gates

We bought a Cardinal Gates SS-30 in June 2021 and used it at the top of the stairs in our old apartment. It worked wonderfully, even as our little one would shake it with all her might. We moved in December 2021 and the stairs were too wide for the gate even when fully extended, so we ordered the BX-1 extension. We also ordered a second SS-30 (not from Amazon due to stocking issues). We ran into two issues when trying to install the extension: 1. The hole for the middle bolt to attach the extension is too low for the gate purchased earlier this year. It does, however, fit the newer gate. It may be that the design was changed slightly in the second half of 2021 2. The washers that came with the extension are too large to fit on the top bolt

nice gate but...

This is the best gate I have ever had in the many years of trying every gate I thought looked like it would work. I was hesitant to order due to the other reviewer ordering and the bolts broke off and this could be a hazard at the top of the stairs. I was using for the bottom so thought I'd give it a try. Being that I always follow directions to a tee, we did this and installed the gate only to get to the end and realize that the extension directions were not there. So, we had assumed that the extension went last but apparently it went first and the gate instructions fail to mention this at all. Taking the gate apart the bolts broke and I had to call the company and email 3 times but I did get the bolts in the mail about a week later. Other than that it is doing good so far but it doesn't seem all that strong and makes me wonder how it would hold up to a kid trying to climb or stand on it. OPens nicely and my 19 month old didn't figure out how to open the latch like he did on octogon playpen gate thing. So that's good.

Good quality, very strong, only catch is not inline with the gate perfectly.

The gate extension quality is very good. The only catch is the extension are not perfectly inline with the original gate and there are slightly gaps, which is acceptable. Highly recommended.

Gate extension is a great way to fill in the gap. Makes the entire gate look great, sturdy and way better than those wooden gates
