This GrillPro 39470 Chimney Charcoal Starter is a very good value and is a great replacement for my 'old' Chimney Starter that is thoroughly Burned through! This makes it is so easy to start a BBQ's load of Charcoal with just a couple of sheets of newsprint, and takes very little time to get the whole Chimney of charcoal up to temp to begin your Grilling. I highly recommend this Chimney Charcoal Starter for your BBQ grilling needs. It's fast, efficient, and easy.

Great fire starter

I hate the smell and taste of starter fluid in grilled foods. This eliminates the need for starter fluids and it’s better for the environment.

Why didn't I already know about this device!

Nothing special to say about this charcoal starter. It's well-constructed, easy to use and works like a charm. I've only used it a few times, but it seems substantial enough to last for a long time. In my opinion, this is the best way to light charcoal.

Cheap and does the job well!

Great price. Its not weber quality, but at this price point, you absolutely cannot argue against this thing. It works and it works well. Holds lots of coals and the heat shield and handle properly keep the heat away. I used probably the poorest quality hardwood lump coals (the bag even contained rocks...) and using two fire starters the coals were ready in about 15-20 minutes with no fanning (fast with it). I was a bit skeptical due to the bottom of the chimney not appearing to have enough airflow but it proved to be enough and works fine. You just need to be gentle with storage and transporting it the metal is not the strongest..but again, it works well! Some parts are not welded or fastened but instead are slotted within the chimney. For example, the square bottom grate is slotted into the chimney walls. This means if you very severely dent the chimney or bend it out of shape, it may pop out, but I'm sure it would be easily fixable by bending it back. The metal does get 'discoloured' after being heated but this is 100% normal and expected. There was absolutely no chemical smells coming from the chimney during first use or in the coals while cooking - so this is 'issue' people are complaining about is a non-issue! No metal will stay the same color if it hasn't been treated with heat! Please rate my review as helpful if this has helped you! :)

Tiene un problema de diseño

No tiene orificios laterales para que ingrese aire y el carbón se tarda mucho mas de lo normal en encender. Tuve que utilizar mi taladro con una broca para acero y después de hacerle 12 orificios (similares a los que tiene el de Weber), ahora si funciona mejor. El tamaño es demasiado pequeño. Le cabe media bolsa de carbón.

Great Value 4 ur $$ 4 a Charcoal Starter Chimmney

Well designed. Well made. Aluminum construction for lighter weight. Unlike cheaper made products with a metal screen inside the cylinder to hold the charcoal, this model has a perforated metal square whose corners protrude through the cylinder walls. It will not become brittle with repeated use and break like a screen will. Holes at base of cylinder allow insertion of long fireplace matches to light a non-toxic fire starter cube or crumpled sheet of newspaper. Handle riveted to cylinder at top and bottom. Wish there was 1 more rivet in between to better secure cylinder together. Wish handle was wood for greater comfort and not plastic. DIMENSIONS: 11 inches Tall; 6 1/2 inches Diameter; 8 inches Deep.

You only need 2 sheets of newspaper to start a fire!

This chimney starters is incredible. I ordered it back in Aug 2019 when it was an add-on item for on $9.99. Such an incredible value! This thing works so well and makes it so much fun to BBQ since I never worry about the time it takes to start a fire. I wish I bought more of these now that the price has more than doubled.

Economically priced and does the job

The sheet metal is thin but more than capable of doing the job. It takes about 10-15 minutes to get ALL the coal in the starter hot and glowing for me, but I find it's somewhat dependent on how densely the coals are packed and how much tinder you use to get the fire going. It certainly takes less effort than before. Once you've poured the hot coals onto your grill, add more coal as needed depending on how much you are cooking. From my experience, heating up one batch of coal from the coal starter was more than enough to cook a meal for a family of 4. When I purchased this it was around $10 and was roughly half the price of similar products from brand name manufacturers. The metal does discolour (mine did after first use) but does not seem to affect usability.
