Plastic is cheap but this could be one of the best hamster cages
I bought this cage for my long-haired Syrian hamster. I have had so many Syrian hamsters and have settled with the cage I bought 6 years ago which served my last 3 hams. But this long haired Syrian is much bigger even at a baby/young stage, and I looked for a bigger cage. I literally checked ALL the hamster cages available on the internet and couldn't find one that had right size. Many are too big, come with unnecessary toys and decorations, a wire mesh stage (not foot for hams feet), and/or extra floors (you don't need 2-3 stories high which senior and sick hams will never use). Exception of a couple breeds, most of the hamsters are "loners" meaning that they get territorial so you need a separate cage for each. And for just one hamster, you really don't need a giant cage where he sleeps in more than half of the day. But you do need a large enough wheel that they play with most of their spare time when youg. I needed a good cage that fit a 8.6 inch wheel, and this cage had a perfect dimension. I swear this is the best dimension and the only product I could find in the market. It does come with a second floor but totally removable. I kept it while he's still youg and active. The plastic is cheap, and the base plastic arrived broken. (This is due to how the product is tightly packaged and not due to sellers. And you are likely to get a replacement as this cage is Prevue Pet Products's Year 2005 model that has been discontinued.) If you lucky recieve the cage but plastic is broken, DON'T throw it away: But it can be taped up and will NOT affect the overall function as a cage. My ham is very strong and active but he won't break it open and escape. I added an extra security around the door (see photo) but even when I forget to put it , he never opened the door and escaped. My hamster loves his new roomy cage. The hole to the econd floor is a little too small for Syrian hamsters, so he is likely to not be able to use as he reaches the full adulthood. But for now, he squeezes himself into the hall and gets to the second floor. I'm very satisfied with this cage. No one cares for the patch work in the corner of base plastic.

Good for a Chinese hamster
Good for a Chinese hamster. He mainly stays on ground level. My guy likes to chill under his wheel, (that comes with it) and loves it too, sometimes I can't even hear that he's on it, which is great (his old wheel would wake me up in the middle of the night). The added level with cat dome and ladder/slide he barely uses. Which makes me sad bc I thought he might be curious but I leave for extra hideout for him. But I may replace with a hammock since I actually cover this case with a small towel and light deceptive scarf and leave only the front opening side exposed. But for now underneath the cat dome level I placed a hide out for him and he goes in there sometimes for the cheese chews I place there. I also got him a critter bath ceramic with sand which he seems too like next too the hideout, but I see he's much happier overall. his first cage was just way too small even for him. I am to believe this is more than enough room for your Chinese hamster or anything small. I would just make sure it is really secured shut. It's a perfect size even if more than enough room for two Chinese hamsters. But if you have a Syrian I'd get him something a tiny bit bigger the larger is big but I'd want ur hamster to be comfortable and def. a bigger wheel without a doubt. When setting up just to be delicate with the wheel, it's common sense, I thought you had to take it apart and I ended up breaking off the round piece in the middle off that covered the magnet but I tossed it as it still works just as good without it and the white cage itself the bottom part I am actually happy with even with the wave part that swoops in a lil but again not a problem. Part of the design is so if u wanted to reach the hamster or reach for something in the cage, you have an easier access from the top left or right sides which is cool for variety and Covience. Also doesn't come with water bottle or Food bowl so I have a living world bottle (it's ok) I had to get ghetto and use a rubber to keep it at a level that is comfortable for him to reach at ease.

Great item for your pet!
Despite all of the horrible reviews, I ordered this cage. I heeded the warnimg that this was likely designed for a smaller hamster breed. The only aspect that is made for a smaller hamster is the wheel. This can be switched out. there is more than enough room if you get a larger wheel for a teddybear hamster in this cage. The wheel is key. This was easy to assemble. I did not fasten down the hooks because I want to be able disassemble this and store it when I need to; I am a breeder. I put a dwarf size in this, and other than the fact that she could not get good purchase on the slides to climb up (she was very pregnant and would even turtle in her own previous cage) she loved this new environment. She was constantly busy. She now has banies in it and I am looking forward to them growing up. The base pan is high enough that the little ones will not escape through the bars. The only reason I gave this item a 4 and not a five is because my dome house was missinb a tab that would lock it in place on the platform. I used an awl and made a hole which I threaded a twisty tie through and easily secured it to the base, but can still remove it for cleaning. This really is a great home for a small hamster, or even a teddybear if you switch out the wheel. Gerbils are a little more skittish and jumpy, so they might need more room if you do not have a ball or take them out to play. Take a chance on this, and do not rush to put it together. Put the top on last, and do not secure it by bending tabs. It will stay secure if you just loop it together without bending the pieces. Look at competitor prices, and think about the fact that this cage offers space for your pet vertically, will be easy clean, and is less than half what other brands charge. I love this cage for the price.

Medium cage great home for Dwarf Hamsters
My partner and I have 2 Campbell's Russian Dwarf hamsters who both absolutely love this cage! I had dwarf hamsters when I was little, and had had bad experiences with my hammies getting trapped in the wire cage sides while climbing, so I was wary about getting a wire cage, but the way that this cage is put together stops the little guys from getting themselves into unwanted mischeif. We had a slight issue with our cage when it arrived as 2 of the pieces of the cage lid were'nt properly connected to the end, but a little bit of soldering fixed it up fine and the hamsters have'nt tried to eat through where it's been fixed or gotten out in the 2 and a half months we have had them so far. The depth of the base is perfect for dwarf hamsters to burrow in, and the multiple layers gives them a lot of space to run around and explore without the cage taking up too much room, which was perfect for us since it needed to fit on quite a narrow bookcase. There was even enough room to put in a little slide house on the bottom layer for them! I wouldn't recommend getting the meduim size cage for housing a Syrian hamster, though, as it would probably feel too cramped even with only having one in a cage.

Super Value I got lat one :(
so wish they would hurry up and get in stock my god great value for money if they come back in snatch them up I want more :) do not hesitate to buy this cage.

Not worth the money
Not worth the money. Very flimsy and this has already been returned by someone else as the wheel was broken. So I can't use it. I couldn't send it back as my hamster had broken his old cage so I had no choice but I'm not overly Happy with it.

Don’t buy this.
Super flimsy and the wheel fell apart literally the first time we used it. I ordered it a few months ago because it was on sale. We saved it for my daughters birthday at the end of September but I wish I had waited and bought it closer to so I could still be within the return time.
