It seems I go through one a year, I'm on my third one.
It seems I go through one a year, I'm on my third one. I love the product and will keep using it.

Irrigation Bliss may be had courtesy of Gardena and fine German Engineering.
I was looking for a hose-bib mounted mechanical water timer that would not restrict my anemic city water pressure and this did the trick, in spades. Our city water inlet is only 1/2 inch and results in about 50 PSI at the bib. As a result, I have had all sorts of trouble with impact sprinklers. I started with Melnor's then tried GIlmour's then finally Orbits. I tinkered and fussed but to no avail. If no one on my city block was so much as flushing a toilet, they MIGHT work a few times, but then would no longer spin hard enough to trip the return levers. I tried shortening the hoses that fed them, no luck. I tried using a smaller diameter hose hoping to raise the water velocity. No joy. I grew up on farms so I knew deep down that there's really only one brand of impact sprinkler worth anything and that is Rain Bird. I yanked out the old heads and dropped Rain Birds on. Still no love. I tried everything, I adjusted, I tinkered, I fussed, I meddled and twiddled. I even resorted to some rather colorful language which did nothing but cause my blood pressure to rise. However, it did nothing for my water pressure. It did cause the dog to give me a rather mournful look however. In desperation, I decided to swap out the timer I was using to see if maybe that was the problem. I have used Orbit and Melnor timers, but unfortunately the diameter of the pass-thru is about the size of a pencil and I can only run one impact sprinkler at a time with them. Like a bolt of lightning (Or possibly a rather large, well-thrown bolt) it hit me. The timers were throttling the water pressure down even further, below the threshold that even my beloved Rain Birds could operate. While the timer function was great, the pass-thru water pressure was not. Off to Amazon I went. After a few failed attempts at searching term usage, I found another timer that promised "High Volume", but the reviews were less then hearty even discounting the obvious "Pilot error" in some of them. Then I found this Gardena. At double the price that I had paid for mechanical water timers I was a little hesitant, but I was tired of standing next to a non functioning sprinkler head, getting soaking wet trying to get it to run and for the price of a couple CD's I was willing to have dry pants and no longer cause the dog great amounts of consternation at the vociferous language being used when he obviously hadn't peed in the house anywhere. Not that day anyway. I engaged the "Prime Directive" and two days later the magic box appeared on my porch. Irrigation bliss. Lo and behold my Rain Birds spun in near frantic ecstasy happily spreading water hither and yon across the yard. This Gardena works great. I can run both my Rain Birds and the lawn is thoroughly and evenly watered. The dog was rather non-plussed at first as he was not able to time his forays between the jets of water and got thoroughly soaked. He was at least kind enough to not sully my mood by likewise watering the living room rug, so all is good. Ignore the nonsense about variable pressure in some other reviews and simply bask in the glory of your sprinklers running at full pressure. The "Soft Off Feature" is nice I suppose but I personally don't care if my timer slams off as hard as my front door does when a political pollster shows up so long as the sprinklers are running at full bore and soak those wretched time vampires as they scurry down the sidewalk.

good product while it works
the design of these timers appears to have changed the model they use to make lasted a few years which was not great but acceptable but after being redesigned your lucky to get a year out of them ,it seems everything that's made these days is designed to break ,feed the greed. still looking for one that lasts , probably doesn't exist.

Don’t let it freeze!
Works great if you don’t leave it outside in freezing temps. It will crack and fail if it has water in it that freezes. As would any plastic vessel.

Reliable & Simple Design...
Sick of overwatering, but even more sick of battery operated timers with too many settings, this Gardena seemed like a great solution for day to day watering needs. Feeding off the end of a highly pressurized 3/4" water line and fully open ball valve, the mechanics of this timer have no problem shutting off the flow of water after the preset time has expired. And I can reliably leave the ball valve open, effectively using the timer as my on/off control for the faucet, without any leaks. I'm not a fan of Gardena's plastic quick connect fittings. That's not to say that they don't work well, but I use Orbit's reliable brass quick connect fittings, so have no use for Gardena's. Thankfully, Gardena made their quick connects removable on this timer (screw off to expose hose threads), unlike theirRetractable Garden Hose Reel that has the fittings permanently attached to the hose. Turning the timer's dial counterclockwise opens the valve without the timer functioning, the same as turning on a faucet. But in this mode, the rate of flow is adjustable (from closed to wide open, just like a normal faucet -- or more like a ball valve) so it's important to remember to turn it all the way if I'm going to be using the sprayer. This feature isn't present in the timer mode, where (I presume) the flow is either wide open, or shut off completely. The plastic construction is a compromise. It's brittle plastic, so I wouldn't expect it to survive repeated drops onto the concrete patio. But the plastic keeps it relatively light weight, which is great since I use mine mounted straight out horizontally, not hanging vertically. And the plastic exterior certainly staves off rust or corrosion. Obviously where this timer wouldn't work is if we're away on vacation, since it does need to be manually turned on (and of course, the hose moved to multiple locations around the yard). But for day-to-day watering needs, this is about as simple (and, as it turns out, reliable) as it gets.

This will not water your garden during vacation
Probably my fault for assuming “automatic” meant I could set it to automatically turn on every other day or something like that. This is a timer that times the water flow then shuts it off. I need to return it and get the kind that also automatically turns it on. I write this, not as a complaint, but in the service of others who may be making the same assumptions I did.

Set it and forget it. Never forget the water on again.
This is an outstanding mechanical timer for your outdoor water hose. It attached to the water spout at the house and then you attach the hose to it. It works without electricity or any power, as it's a spring loaded mechanical timer. You can set it by the minute for up to several hours. It shuts off the water when the time is up. Great device, bought a second one for my mom and she loved it too. ****** UPDATE: Having now used this for several months i report as follows. It continues to work well but the part that attaches to the hose often leaks, and you can't tighten it as there are no threads it just snaps into the base. That same connection completely came apart on the one i bought my mom and the water ran for hours until we saw it the next day flooding the driveway. The piece that connects to the hose comes loose from the base resulting in leaking and sometimes completely detaches. I've noticed this happens when you connect the timer vertically directly to the house spout as the weight of the hose pulls it apart. If you connect the timer directly to a sprinkler for instance you won't have this problem. Still, there's definitely a weak link in the design.

it failed after a few months of use.
we set it to 20 minutes and it never turned off. ran our well dry in the middle of august... so dissapointed, we trusted the brand so much that we bought sprinklers and electric timers from them too. now im worried to use the electric ones incase they fail too.

Works like a charm
I've been using this model for about 10 years now. I take them off before the winter freeze... they seem to last me about 5-6 years before needing to be replaced. I use them a couple of times a week. Reliable - and it doesn't impede water pressure.

Piece of crap. Really disappointed.
Used it a dozen times and stored it in the house over winter. Attached it 1 week ago and will only allow about 1/2 the water flow unless you press and hold the timer dial and then you get full water flow. I've had other cheaper models that do the same thing. The only difference is they are half the price or less.

Well made and a time saver!
This item is really great and prevents over-watering. I love the way I can turn on my sprinkler for 30min and go for 2hr bike ride early in the morning and not have to ask someone to turn it off. You'll never have that "omg I left the sprinkler on!!" feeling again.
