Major issues.
Mine came in, it looks different from the one on the listing. doesnt matter. i set it up, its a little confusing to program but once you get the hang of it its not that bad. i went and set every day at 8 am 5 pm (which only has 24 hour time - i didnt like that aspect much) for 10 minutes. The next day, i noticed that it didnt run. so i checked it, and the days changed from every day to 3 days. I thought i musta screwed it up and changed it back. confirmed that all days were shown and ran it manually. Next day- didnt run. check the program, nope its back on 3 days. I thought maybe my contractor keeps accidently screwing it up. set it again... acontractor was gone for a few days come back next day and it had run, so that was good. next day, doesnt run. check the program, sure enough back to 3 days. So it keeps the time, duration all fine, but the days reset after ahwile. I even checked it again one day a few hours later and it was still okay, but it had reset again after i checked it. Emailed support, about a week later i was contacted back. they asked me for a receipt and photos of unit and i provided them. they said that the battery needs changed. i had put new batteries in it, and theres no indication that it was low on battery and explained that then i got a response (copy pasted): Thank you for your follow up - That is strange that it keeps resetting. I have sent a request to Gardena to replace This was 3 weeks ago and still havent heard anything more about it.

Gardena 1814 6-cycle Timer/computer
I have tried several timers of different makes in the past and I am not pleased by anyone of them. The main reason is the plastic parts in the timer which can't withstand the high pressure shutoff of water supply. I returned all of them for poor performance. A friend of mine is a big fan of Gardena products and he recommended that I try this timer(he has not tried this himself). This is an expensive product and it is made in Germany and so I thought this would be good.It is not easy to set the timer--took several attempts to program it.I still could not program a daily 1 hour watering for a week. I settled for 4 days,1 hour watering everyday that the timer gave me by accident.I am not exactly an uninitiated user either. Next, I tried to hook the timer to my water supply spigot on my outside wall. The timer has a plastic coupling and my spigot has a brass coupling. So when I hooked up and tested the shuoff, the water started leaking big time. I tried to tighten with hand and then gently with a plier, realizing that this plastic coupling (and the timer) would become unusable if I exerted any force.Still the water leak persisted. I removed the timer and noticed that some threads are stripped in the plastic coupling. I then tried wrapping some teflon tape around the brass spigot connection and retried threading the plastic coupling. This time the connection held without water leak. The timer functioned well--opening and closing on the programmed days. I am still not comfortable how long this timer will last.I believe that there are design flaws in this timer.First, the programming of the timer and second the plastic coupling that hooks to the water supply. If you mess up this coupling--the timer is useless. So, be aware of these problems before you buy!

For the birds in a GOOD way.
I needed a timer that would cycle several times a day but not at night to keep my bird bath topped off and this looked like it. Once I got over sticker shock I bought one and it does exactly that. Starting at eight AM it is programed to run every two hours for ten minutes six times a day for seven days. The birds seem to congregate during the times that it is running and the bowl now stays nearly full all the time. I would have given it five stars except that I didn't feel the programming was as intuitive as it could have been. It took several tries to get it to cycle exactly as needed. Also, it seems to be well built but I'll have to see how it stands the test of time. One neat feature is that the control pad can be easily dismounted from the valve unit for programming, no need to disconnect the entire assembly from the faucet or to awkwardly crouch down to faucet level. Just un-snap the controller, find a comfortable lawn chair & program away then snap it back into place.

Worked fine the first season, time will tell!
It took a bit to program but after reading and watching online video I got it. The only thing I HATE is the plastic adapter ring that attaches to this and the plastic reducer so it fits a normal hose thread. I swear I had to tighten it so tight with pliers I thought I'd break it and yet I still had a small drip. I work with pipes and such every day so I do know my way around threaded things. This is just a bad part of the design and should have been brass. I like the QD fittings that come with it but would recommend using an silicone based grease on the "O" rings so they last longer even though Buna-N uses water as it's lubricant it does expand over time. I think the silicone prevents this for a longer duration and being most companies make "O"rings to their own special size I'd wouldn't be surprise to find that when one goes bad you can't find an exact replacement. Ounce of prevention thing for me.

This one seems to be better engineered than the other which quit on me
This seems to be working well. It replaces another 6 cycle timer that I have had for about 6 years that was programmed the same way. This one seems to be better engineered than the other which quit on me. I would give it 5 stars but I have no idea how durable it is.

Works great! Hard to edit programming
Love this timer. However, it's hard to edit the programming for a single day without cycling through all the options. I would buy it again though.

Description lacks important info about this model.
This item was made primarily for European use. For using in States, it needs more connections, which is not good as it takes up a lot of room and more chances for leaks. Amazon in their description, of the item, should have mentioned this. Surely Gardena makes this model for USA sales.
