This is a basic thermostat and it does the job it is supposed to do for the most part. The main concern for this thermostat is that it is not entirely accurate for temperatures. While making froofroo coffee drinks on our home machine it does read the temperature as designed. The problem is that we have to heat it up hotter according to this thermostat to hit the temperature we like compared to other thermostats. On other thermostats we hit 140 and stop while with this thermostat we have to take the temperature to around 160 to hit the same desired temperature. Maybe we just got an inaccurate thermostat. They are massed produced after all and bad ones do happen but I will still suggest you consider other options.

Just ok

Needed a lot of adjusting to get it to an accurate reading and it’s slow to rise to the actual temperature. We use it with our espresso machine when steaming milk and have learned to stop when it reads a good 20 degrees cooler than what we want and it then continues to rise. I think I would Heather have a Digital thermometer.

Decent Thermometer

Worth it for the price. Printed characters are very small and the glass fogs but that's to be expected. Wish it had marks at 185 and 205 for tea.

OUTLASTING OTHER THERMOMETERS

I like that this thermometer is still working. I've been through so many thermometers most of them digital.. this is the only one that is still working. Not fogging up on the inside no crazy readings that I know are incorrect, simple and easy to read and I like the red section to show your ideal area for espresso temperature. easy to clean. convenient clip that slides up and down to secure to the side of a cup or pan.

Does the Job

I like this thermometer. It gets the job done. I also like the little case that protects it so that I can put it in the drawer without worrying about someone poking their finger on the pointy end or worrying about this damaging other items. The dial is a little small, which is great since it doesn't get in the way when frothing milk for a latte, but it's also a little bit hard to read. I can easily see the shaded red area which indicates the correct temperature, though, so it is still useful. I have noticed that sometimes it seems not to register any change in temperature and then once it does, the temperature goes up very quickly. I'm not sure if this is because the temperature of the milk is changing quickly or if the thermometer just takes a bit to register. This thermometer is also a bit long for my frothing cup. It fits in, but only if slanted and then it's a bit in the way of the frother.

Ah, ha! Baristas beware I will now return my latte if you do not make it to 130 degrees as requested! I don't mean to sound snobby but the "Star" coffee places around here love to serve you blistering hot cups of coffee. I began requesting my lattes at 130 degrees so I can drink it instead of looking at it! Unfortunately, the task of serving my latte at a correct temp seemed too much for the baristas. But alas, the Norpro Instant Read Thermometer to the rescue! I keep this in my car so I can look at the temp of the latte before I drive away from the window! It works super fast and seems to be perfectly accurate. I know when this thing says 130 I can drink it immediately!!

Very good product at a very good price.

Well designed, works well, tested/compared it to another thermometer, it's accurate, a real bargain. I use it every day to measure the water temperature for my coffee.
