Good product, directions might help
I just bought 5 more of these holders. We use them to hold our DMT stones (Dia-Sharp 8x3). Note here that we are not trying to use one holder for all our stones, so getting the stones into the holder is a one time proposition. We use 50/50 Simple Green Concentrate with Water as a cutting fluid and are not having any problems with rust. Nevertheless, stainless steel rods and nuts would be a great addition and only a little more cost. The holder does not come with directions, and has a few quirks that need to be documented. Twin metal runners and three separate blocks are not going to be inherently stable. We use a big slab of granite for a sharpening bench which is pretty flat, not surface plate flat, but pretty flat. We put the stones into the holder ON THE GRANITE SURFACE and then lightly tighten them while applying some pressure. This is the only way to get the holder to lie flat on the surface. No need to crank down on the nuts, just firm is all that is necessary. The center piece is there primarily it seems to contact the bench. You can see light between the stone and the center support on all of our holders. If the center support touched the stone in any way, the stone might rock using the center support as a fulcrum. We don't use any sharpening method that would flex practically any stone, much less the DMT stones. It is a fact that the black baby buggy bumpers on the end of the threaded rods are a random affair and may or may not ship with the unit, from my experience, you get at least one. If it's a worry, use tool dip on them. They fall off almost immediately anyway. I don't know if anyone makes a better Stone Holder, these work for us.

Servicable and not overpriced
After reading the reviews I half expected to need to run a die down the threads to get the thing to work. I did not, it worked just find out of the box and is big enough to hold a King KDS waterstone, which is a pretty good sized stone. Folks complaining about the way the rubber smells have obviously never been in a tire store, that is just the way it smells. I agonized over giving it 4 stars though. I feel the item was misrepresented just a tad in the description in that, at the time I bought it, the description stated that the bolts were chrome plated. It also says chrome plated on the box and shows a picture of bolts that are nice and shiny. The bolts are not even "bright plated" they look more like they were hot-dip galvanized. To their credit they changed the description to indicate they are zinc plated but the picture still shows nice shiny bolts when the finish is closer to the finish on chain-link fencing. Not that there is anything wrong with that, they will probably actually go longer before corroding than bright plated bolts. It's just inaccurate. So even though I should dock them a star for misrepresenting the product, they at least went back and corrected the description on their product page. But all in all the value is good. It's cheaply made and if I were a professional sushi chef in a Michelin three star restaurant in Ginza I would buy something better. But for my use and my expectations it will do just fine.

Inexpensive and Functional
The title summarizes my feeling. I bought this stone holder for a ridiculous low price of ~$15. It gets the job done. I used to simply put my sharpening stones on top a wet towel, but after more than a few months, I decided to get a stone holder. This stone holder has three advantages over a wet towel. 1) It grabs the counter more secure than a wet towel, 2) It provides much better knuckle clearance. 3) It makes less of a wet mess on my counter. As the picture shows, you can put the sharpening stones between the two grips and tighten them with the two nuts. However, it is very slow to loosen and to tighten the nuts. Most people I know simply just slap the holder together. I do this as well. Sharpening stones are elevated 7/8" above the flat surface. It is 2-3/4" wide and 11-1/4" long. It can hold a stone as long as 8-3/4" without taking off the nuts.

Arkansas stones or Japanese stones like I do
If you own diamond stones, Arkansas stones or Japanese stones like I do, then buy one of these. It holds the stones securely and elevates them enough so you can work on a table or desk. When I purchased this I felt I was probably wasting money as I could just put my stones on a 2x4 and use a couple nails to hold the stones in place and save the money. However, after using this I find it worth every penny of the price. It makes me wish I'd bought this years ago. Even the stones and hones I had that came with wooden holders are better used with this handy device that is more stable and can be rinsed off after use. Some of the best money I've spent on sharpening equipment and I've spent a quite a bit over the years!

Good enough
It does what it's advertised to do, and will hold pretty much any stone that is between 5.5 and 9 inches long. The downside is that the cheap construction is quite obvious, and you will have to do some fine tuning to make this holder work for you. 1. The threads on the rails are uneven, and the nuts will catch in certain places when you adjust them for the first time. You will probably need to use some oil and a pair of pliers to run the nuts up and down the rail a couple of times before they stop catching. 2. The rubber pads can be uneven. In my case, the middle pad protruded from the bottom and caused the stand to seesaw. You can fix this by sanding down whichever pad is causing the problem. In fact, you might as well sand the bottom of all of the pads a little bit, it helps them grip better. 3. The end caps on the rails are loose. You can fix this by throwing the caps in the garbage. They're pretty much useless anyways. All of the problems with this stone holder are very easy to fix, so for the price, it's hard to fault it.

Adjusts to fit stone and rubber base prevents slippage

Decent stone holder
Decent stone holder. Unfortunately, mine was not very flat. I had to glue a small piece of non-slip mat on one end to prevent it from wobbling back and forth. End caps also don't fit properly and just fall out because they're so loose.

I think a sink bridge is a better option for someone who wants a sturdy surface
This product is okay, that's why I have gave it three stars. In order for this to work correctly it needs to be perfectly level and be on a level surface. My item was not perfectly level, and would slip a little when the surface got wet. I think a sink bridge is a better option for someone who wants a sturdy surface, and clean up is easier with a sink bridge.

Absolutely do NOT buy this unless you want something to completly stink up your sharpening area.
Don't waste your money. The machining of the rods is VERY poor - the nut on one side is constantly getting hung up. The threads are dirty - clearly this product stone holder is made to the lowest quality standards. I had to re-cut the threads just to get one of the nuts to move more than a couple of turns. The worst part is the stink! The rubber components smell like they've been made from recently reclaimed rubber tires with no thought to actually cleaning or odor removal. Off-gassing is terrible - had to put it and the box it came in, in the garage because it caused my entire house to reek. Don't waste your money on such a poorly built stone holder. I ordered the POWERTEC 71013 Sharpening Stone Holder, 5-1/2-Inch to 9-Inch at the same time and is fantastic.
