Check your control arm resistance if you've had lightning damage

I have had a Mighty Mule 500 gate opener for 10 years now. In 2013 I had a lightning strike that shut it down and did a lot of other damage too. I called Mighty Mule and they sent me a whole refurbished unit at a discounted price. I installed it and kept the old unit in my barn. I had another lightning strike do the same thing this time, and by the time I got around to troubleshooting the gate opener, Hurricane Irma had hit Florida (Mighty Mule is Tallahassee I believe.) Couldn't get a hold of them as they were in the middle of that. No LED's were lit on the control board, so I order this and installed it. When I tried to open the gate, it wouldn't work as I kept burning out a fuse every time I tried to open it. I checked resistance across the power lines to the control arm, only 0.6 ohms. I got out the old control arm from 2007. 3.6 ohms. I replaced the 2013 control arm with the old one from 2007 and it worked perfectly. Moral of the story: check the resistance across the red and black lines that go to the control arm before you order this board. They plug into the "master operation" bus on the left side of the board. If the resistance is very low, you might as well order a hole new unit or call Mighty Mule.

We have never had to return an Amazon purchase and I'm very impressed at the level of co-operation from Amazon Customer Service. Except for the time lost and money spent on installation, the process was as clean and easy as can be expected. The odds of a defective computerized Main Operation Control must be pretty high, but no fault can be placed with Amazon. This "Mighty Mule Replacement Control Board Gate Opener (R4211) was defective. The Mighty Mule Tech Service representative said it had a malfunctioning "di-ode" causing the voltage loss during operation. The replacement Replacement Control Board is scheduled to be here Thursday. We will return the defective unit the same day if we can install it before the UPS pick-up time (4 pm at our UPS location). Easy to install BUT...

The board was very easy to install but I could not get the stop limits to work. Finally, I disconnected power and removed the battery hoping the board would reset itself. It worked and I was easily able to set the stop limits. All is good is again. I wouldn't have even tried this repair but I could not get a single company to come out to my semi-rural property to repair the gate. I had no choice but to fix it myself. I'm glad I did! One last IMPORTANT thing. I had to order this circuit board THREE times because Amazon kept shipping it in the manufacturer's flimsy box that got squashed. Order the board with just about any other item so Amazon will pack it in another box!!!

Pretty much plug and play

Pretty much plug and play, connect and configure except for one issue. On a dual gate you can set both to open simultaneously or with a delay. The delay time is not adjustable. Imagine my surprise when the second (delayed) gate started sooner than the previous board had done, then catching up with the other too early and basically crashing them together. My 'work-around' was to adjust the stagger (a cam style disc built into each arm which will slightly alter either gate's starting and stopping position) in one of the arms. If you have an absolute start and stop point on your installation, this could easily be a major issue. For me, having the second gate stop at the open position a few inches either way was not a concern; my having to bring additional tools and the forty--five minutes needed to fine tune the closing, well that was...On the plus side, setting the close/stop positions for each gate seemed easier and more accurate.

I received the part that I ordered in a very short time.

These boards don't seem to last very long. This is the 3rd one.

replacement board

i am currently "pot committed" on my gate system with mighty mule. If i knew now.....i would never have given them a dime.The system is full of flaws and very unreliable. Customer service is great for small talk and if its super simple to fix otherwise its always a CONTROL BOARD REPLACEMENT and try asking them how many "replacements" they get.....yeah.Hindsight i would have saved up for a "grown up version" of a gate system, instead of nickle and dime my way into this money pit system of mighty mules. Only saving grace was to find flash offering the board at reduced prices with great shipping (GOT THE RIGHT PART ON TIME AND IT WORKS FINE). But even as we speak they are raising the price from 160 to 180. Gotta tell you flash I was on the fence at scrapping the whole thing at 160,I think the extra 20 more will shut this customer down when/not if the system crashes again.Be careful. 4 STARS FOR FLASH DELIVERING EXACTLY WHAT THEY SAY THEY WILL***1STAR FOR THE MIGHTY MULE SYSTEM.

If you need a replacement, this works. The company was actually very helpful on the phone. A bit pricey but worth it if you need to fix your gate opener after a lightening strike nearby.

Best way to buy in Canada

It arrived quickly and appears to be a perfect replacement for original board. Have not used it yet as old boar started working again. Will keep as a spare just in case. Hope it works when I need it. Much easier and cheaper to buy from Amazon than from Mighty Mule in Florida.
