Update: In addition to the items below, the unit did not come with an IR sensor. The “obstruction technology“ does work, But you must set the number 4 pin switch properly until you have successfully tested that it will stop against your weight. In addition, you will have to test it over a few days, because if you set the Resistance Dial too loosely, it will not fully close and will back up. Once you get to sufficient resistance though, it sufficiently closes and opens. The lack of an IR sensor is an issue, and HappyBuy Sent a whole new unit but it still did not have one. Nevertheless, I have now used this device for several weeks, and if you are mechanically handy, it ends up being a very effective and usable unit. I purchased a separate garage door “Smart“ Internet connected opener which really makes things handy. I bought the following unit on Amazon and it was relatively cheap and is compatible- HBN Smart Garage Door Opener - Connected WiFi Garage Door Control, Compatible with Alexa & Google Home Assistant, No Hub Needed. See my separate review of that product, which has some issues but for the price has worked. Overall I’ve changed my recommendation of this from three stars to four stars if you can handle the issues described, given that the sells for $180-$200 and has a 3100 pound stated capacity, which is far more than almost all of the other sold. Original review: This unit does not come with an electrical cord or any way to plug it in. Seriously? If intended to be hardwired, and not plugged in they should be clearly stated as either way you’re gonna have to your own hardwire, or a 15amp plug/wire to connect to this to make it work. The instructions are atrocious, and really poorly written. This requires installation of two separate limiter magnets, but you have to be mounted above each other, which might not be possible for all gates. NOTE: advertised parts included says “1 X 20ft. of Chain” -The unit come with two chains though, that appear to be 2-10’ foot chains not the single one 20 foot chain. You have to connect the chains to make it work and I did not see it in the list any instructions for a chain connector, although it is possible one was there. The chance that either chain will be the exact length that you need is very low, therefore you will have to figure out how to remove the links to shorten the chain to the size you need. I recommend you search YouTube, but the best way appears to be to lay the chain on top of a half inch or three-quarter inch nut, and use a hammer and a punch to push out the link rod at the link you want to and end the chain at. The 500 W and 3100 pound rating is what attracted me to this unit and it’s price, but I may need to send it back because of the above issues. This unit does not come with batteries in the remote controls, which you must purchase online as they are uncommon 12 V 27A batteries. The instructions are absolutely impossible to follow, I have some experience in working with things and was able to figure it out, but if you’re not technically savvy, I’m not sure you’ll be able to do this. In order to help you out though, I’m gonna give you my own instructions below, as the Chinese version that is sent to you simply isn’t usable. If it weren’t for the price this would get two stars, but this is definitely a you get what you pay for product. As I’m writing this, I’m realizing this really only does deserve two stars. I have updated this review after its installation and corrected and revised to reflect the experience after installation. My version of instructions: 1. You’re gonna need to find a cord at least 18 inches to longer depending on how far away your plug is. Wire the plug Green which is ground to the left screw at the top that has what looks like an Internet ground symbol, The white wire goes to the next middle screw labeled N (they don’t use the term C for common), and why are the black hot wire to L (load). Check this carefully, as you will fry the board if you do it wrong. 2. You’ll need to mount the unit as the first step. A concrete base is needed. Search YouTube for how to do this. Once the unit is installed and lined up exactly to the edge of your gate so that the chain lines up perfectly with the sprockets, move to the next step. 3. The chain comes as a loop, so you’ll have to find the link, pull off the securing pin, and then connect the other chain to this chain. Once you attach the brackets on both sides that hold the chain you will need to connect one end and pull it tight to determine how much change you need to remove. See instructions above for shortening the chain. 4. You’ll need to install the magnets on the left side and right side of the gate, so that they act as a limiter turning off the motor when the gate is fully closed, and fully open. To do this, close the gate, and hold the magnet up to the side of the motor that has two black flat panels. The upper one is for either the close or open, and the lower one is for the opposite. You’ll have to just open the gate to figure out which one is which, because it depends on whether your motor is mounted on the left or the right. Note: The instructions appear to use the term “mounted on the “left“ if you were standing inside your property looking out towards the road. This is not clear in the instructions so stand facing the road/exit and then follow the instructions for whether your gate slides to the left with the right motor, or slides to the left with a “left” motor. If you have a left motor, switch the black button on the top to the left. Mounting the magnets is a kind of a pain, as you may not have a place on your gate to mount them. You therefore may have to manufacture a piece of metal to hold the magnet exactly where you need it, but you can do trial and air with a clamp or a piece of tape or just holding the magnet with your hand, and slowly crossing over the black panel, and you will see a light come on the top electronic board The moment the magnet is in the correct location to stop the motor. That is where you then need to mount the magnet against the gate. Good luck and I hope this helps!
