Replaced all 5 of my Old "CHIRP CHIRP Chirpey" TRAUMATIZING Smoke Alarms. Will change review if I hear as much as 1 CHIRP. 10 Year battery. These had an expiration of something like 2022 (?). Called Kidde...Promised to replace, no questions asked. Ahhhhh. QUIET. (UnIess I hear Voice notification ????)

Not 10 year battery

Installed a bunch of these in my apartment building 6 years ago. The batteries are starting to fail- they do not last 10 years as advertised. they are also on the expensive side. However, I am buying more because they do work, and it is much easier to replace the existing units than buy a different brand.

Item is past it's shelf life, already 5 yrs old (concerned with sealed battery life)

Purchased this in December, 2022. I looked at instructions and am concerned about the 10 yr battery life, as the date code on the alarm shows 8/28/2017 (manufactured 5 years ago!) I called Kidde customer service and even though they go 10 yrs from the purchase date as long as I have the receipt OR without receipt they warranty from date code (or until 2027) Now I'm not sure if I want to keep and have to deal with warranty & return. It is the exact same model that I am replacing...that lasted exactly 10 yrs from date code on back.

Kidde shines with these protectors

Was time to replace the old smoke detector.. absolutely not gambling my home with any other brand then Kidde. As expected it's very well made not cheap plastic. Simple straight forward install and set up. Was even lucky enough to be able to use the original screws from the old one . What are the odds of that !! 50 stars ????

Lasted 3 years

After 3 years, this smoke alarm started shouting "Fire, Fire" every five or ten minutes even though there was no smoke, no fire, nothing at all to trigger the alarm. It was night and I wanted to sleep, but no matter what I did, I could not get the alarm to stop going on. I couldn't remove the battery because it is inaccessible in this 10-year alarm. So I had to follow the instructions to permanently disable the alarm, which was quite difficult to do, as the piece it tells you to push over would not move even with various tools. After a long struggle, I finally was able to disable it by forcing the piece over with a strong screw driver, so I could finally get some sleep. Now it's no longer usable. So I only got 3 years out of this 10 year smoke alarm. I think I'll go back to the kind where you have to change the battery every year. Probably less wasteful than changing the whole alarm, even if it lasts 10 years, (which mine did not.)

Easy

Old version died from 2013....these are non replaceable battery types so once they go bad you have to replace. Install was super easy however they changed the base since last one was installed thus having to make new holes.

Replaced an Older Model

I bought this unit, because I installed, this same model, in July 2013. It was suppose to last ten years, but, who knows how long it was in storage. The mounting plate of the unit has changed, it now has a bigger mounting plate, but the installation "hole/plate" has remained the same. Therefore, I was easily able to use the old "hole/plate," to install this new unit. It was very satisfying to hear it click into place and the hear the installation "beep."
