Yes it was I whom cut the cheese!
Sorry about the bad title...but I had to do it. So, now to this cheese slicer/plane. It is really a heavy built device. All stainless steel...or so far as I can tell, and a sharp edge. My wife is from Sweden so she demands we have these around...Us Americans tend to use the old fashioned wire devices...Or maybe these are more old fashioned??? Anyway, I love them now! This slices cheese fairly thin (which my wife likes a thicker slice) but it hasn't been a deal breaker, and I think she is very pleased with this cheese plane. It will cut thicker if you angle the cutting head while slicing...but still won't get real thick. It does save on cheese by a long ways compared to wired cheese slicers, and or a knife. I personally like the thinner slices as it makes a nice yet but overwhelming cheese flavor vs a huge slab o cheese that can over do a sandwich. Of course if you want more cheese, then slice off a few more shavings off the block of cheese. This is easy to clean as well...I think, but don't quote me that it is dishwasher safe, but a simple scrub brush cleans it in no time! Overall, the build quality seems very good, the slices cut nice and even (though by wife thinks it is a bit thin) and it is easy to clean. I hear complaints about people having the corners of a block of cheese "chunk" off. This is true with nearly any cheese plane, and is really all about the moisture content of the cheese, and the ingredients. There is a learning curve to these though a small one. I find it "chunks" on corners more often in cheddars. To fix or minimize that, simply rotate the block of cheese around and also lift the plane off before the absolute edge. That will minimize the chunkage. Hope you enjoy this review, and if you buy this well built slicer/plane, you should enjoy it too! I don't think I could ever go back to a knife or a wire cutter after using these.

better review
I gave a bad review. It was my fault, there was a piece of tape over the cutting area. I noticed it when I went to return and clean. I works great and does what I needed it to do.

Sturdy, but not sharp
I've been using this slicer for 6 or 7 years now. It is super easy to clean, and still looks brand new. The thing I'm not so happy about is it tears our cheese instead of smoothly cutting. An example, is I have to place my thumb on the cheese and pull the slicer into it to prevent the last 1/2 inch from being ripped off. Unfortunately I don't know if my causal usage over the years has made it dull (does cheese slicing make steel dull?) or if I have just always been living with this. I only noticed how bad it was when I switched to slicing cheese with our pear peeler instead. Wow! It was like butter! The peeler is 10 years old (amazon.com/gp/product/B001EXMT74) and unfortunately looks like it isn't made anymore. Plus it doesn't have that wide of a blade, so cheese slices are much skinnier.

Very good Cheese Blade - slicing edge is at the correct angle!
I've had a few cheese blades because they are the only way I prefer to slice blocks of cheddar into slices for sandwiches and burgers. The critical design requirement is a blade that is set at the right angle. I can see why the other reviewers liked it, but they may not have known exactly why. I had an old OXO that had the correct angle (it's paddle was NOT wavy like the newer ones) and it worked for years (I even kept it after one of the dogs had chewed up the handle and the rubber was missing because it worked correctly). The only thing I wish this had was a slightly wider cutting slot/blade, which would enable slicing of wider chedder pieces. But the slices actually come out better when they are from a thinner block of cheese, so I guess I will just keep cutting my blocks in half (I usually buy Costco Kirkland or Kraft Brand Cheddar blocks). Would definitely recommend this based on cutting performance.

Surprised me with how well it works
This works great for medium-hard cheeses such as cheddar and gruyere. This type of cheese slicer is nicer-looking and less prone to breakage compared to a wire cutter, and this product is a solid entry of the type. Pros: + Looks good + Has a sizable ring on the handle for those that like to hang their utensils + You can angle it to get a good variety of cheese thicknesses, I'd say around 1/16th-1/8th of an inch + It feels sturdy and well-sized Cons - It comes with a sticker to protect the blade that leaves a very annoying residue that is difficult to remove - It's not entirely uncommon for cheese to break off near the end of the block, leaving your slice somewhat awkwardly stuck in the slicer. (In my experience this happens to some extent with all slicers of this type). Consensus: A solid, affordable, attractive cheese slicer -- once you get past the mildly annoying packaging.

Solid and works well!
Gotta have a good cheese slicer for sandwiches, and this one is a great option. It's a solid piece of metal and feels very sturdy. Seems quite sharp and has cut very well so far. The loop on the bottom for hanging is a nice addition for those who need it. This was just a bit nicer than I would have expected for the price, and earns 5 stars. The one thing I'd change is that the cutting edge isn't seamless to the body of the head. As a result, the corners of the blade poke out just a bit, and this makes it just a bit more difficult to wash and, in my opinion, slightly less safe. Perhaps it's bias from the unfortunate run-in I had with a cheese slicer when I was younger, but I thought it worth mentioning! This sort of thing is best when it stands the test of time, and I will make sure to update this review if my opinion changes. However, after perhaps one month of very regular use, I'm pleased, and recommend it!
