OXO have done it again - they've come up with another great kitchen product that works really well due to a superb design. Their salad spinner features a break, a lock, an inner basket, a lid, an outer bowl and of course, that plunger. And here in lies the genius of their design. The lid lifts off, you toss you wet salad in before replacing the lid and press down on the plunger. The design, reminiscent of those toys you had as a kid, spinning tops, uses centrifugal force to dry the leaves sending the salad basket round at a rate of knots and any water flying out to the sides and into the bowl for collection and drainage. You can plunge down two or three times if you like and get the thing whizzing round, and when you want it to stop, you just slam on the break by pressing the black rubber button of the salad spinners lid. And don't worry about storage. When not in use, simple press the plunger down and slide the plastic lock across. This keeps it in the down position meaning your spinner is no bigger and takes up no more room than your average mixing bowl. The base of the bowl is rubberised too, so it grips to the work surface and doesn't shoot off, and the lid pulls apart for easy cleaning. The unit is also dishwasher safe making it even easier to keep clean. What's more the inner basket can be removed so the spinner can be used as a standard bowl (nice!), and it can also be used to keep salad nice and fresh. Because if you keep your washed mix salad in the basket and bowl, pop on the lid and place it back in the fridge, your leaves will stay fresh longer. Awesome! The unit it available in two different sizes - this is the small model, which is fine for your average sized salad and singletons.
