Excellent for intended purpose
This pan is excellent for making proper aebleskiver / takoyaki. My only complaint is the packaging, as the wooden handle was underneath the cast iron's weight when delivered. The wooden handle was fragile enough to be shattered.... however, despite not having a strong handle, this pan is working marvelously for me for making aebleskiver.

Easier to use than expected; Impress your friends.
Aebleskivers are a unique Danish dish--spherical, possibly stuffed, pancakes. We purchased this pan to make them at home. It was simple to put together (the wooden handle screws on to the cast iron base). It would be sturdier if it had been a single piece of cast iron, handle and all, but it seems sturdy enough. Time will tell. As other reviewers observed, it did outgas a horrible smell the first time I heated it up. I was prepared and heated it several times to smoking, with the windows open and exhaust fan at full speed. This is the reason I did not give it a full 5 stars. Once the pan was ready to use, and after perusing several videos on how to make aebleskivers, I was ready to give it a try. I did not use quite enough oil in my first round, but it didn't take long to get the hang of it. It was much easier than I expected to get comfortable with the technique of giving each pancake a quarter-turn, resulting in a fluffy, spherical nugget of goodness. I used the recipe that came with the pan. There are many other cultures which have dishes that are prepared in a similar pan. I look forward to trying some of those recipes as well. I appreciate kitchen utensils that are not one-trick ponies.

Great product, exactly as stated.
I really liked the pan. I made chocolate filled and blueberry filled pancake balls. I plan to make rum jelly and bourbon chocolate to make an adult dessert ball.

passing along the family tradition!
My daughter's new ableskiver pan resembles my well used pan after just the first use. She couldn't be happier and I couldn't be more proud!

Quality
I bought this on a recommendation of a friend. My family loved the aebleskivers. They turned out great the first time.

Terrible fumes from questionable seasoning
After receiving it in the mail and checking to see if there were special seasoning instructions (none were found), I washed this pan in hot water and heated it on the stove to season it with oil. As soon as it got hot, it started smoking badly (on medium low flame which I promptly turned all the way down) and smelling like melted plastic. When I tried to rub the pan with paper towel to see what was making that awful smell, I noticed sticky grey residue that’s impossible to scrape off, it just rolls up into little shreds. I could coat it with oil,and season it, but I don’t want to seal whatever chemicals those are under the seasoning. I buy cast iron or quality SS so I don’t have to worry about chemicals in the non-stick coating, but this pan is very concerning. Those few minutes of smoking filled our whole main floor with smoke and my eyes were stinging from the fumes. Now if I want to proceed with seasoning, I’ll probably have to burn off the coating first which means more fumes in the house. If Lodge pan wasn’t out of stock right now, I would’ve gladly paid more $$ for it because I never had such bad experience with Lodge pans (I have 3 of them). As it is, I’m considering returning this pan and not risking filling my house with questionable fumes.
