A Trade Off

These bags fits my counter compost bin very well. Because they are compostable, it's a trade-off. They are good for the environment, but they are not durable. They tare easily and break down quickly, which can result in messes/spills. You end up using more, making them not a great value for the money.

Good with the right setup

Even though these say they're not meant for backyard composting that's what I use them for. We have 3 of the dual barrel compost bins in a very sunny spot and they pretty much just melt these with everything else. In a previous home we would find these amongst the compost muck and have to put them back into the barrel for a second time to get them to breakdown but those barrels weren't in as sunny of a spot. We don't have problem with them leaking but we empty the bag at least every other day thanks to the coffee grounds, a few paper napkins, and all of the fruit and veggie bits we put in these. They don't have time to leak before they hit the compost bin. We've been using these for years and will continue to do so. Like I said though, if your bin isn't getting really hot to break these down you may have to put them in for a second batch so it does depend on your setup.

Bags ok but dispenser box damaged in shipment

I was not able to find a way to leave feedback on this directly with either amazon or the seller so I'm hoping they can see this. I use the bags all the time since I garden and save scraps for my compost. Like the bags - they hold up until I get to the compost and then they do compost with the rest of it. This time a 4 part order came in a large shipping envelope. The compost bags box was damaged beyond use and the roll of bags was out loose. Since it's the dispenser for the bags I was quite disappointed. the bags themselves are fine just very inconvenient to use.

Biodegradable, but can tear.

I like that these bags are biodegradable and easy to insert in my canister. My one complaint is that when tearing a bag from the roll, the end of the bag gets torn leaving a hole at the bottom of the bag. So food can end up in the bottom of the canister. However, I have started filling my canister with hot water once the canister has reached capacity and take the whole can to compost bin and dump it. That way, there isn't food stuck to inside of canister. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother with bags at all.

Ripping on the sides

I have been purchasing these for years, but recently the bags have had a tendency to rip. The ripping can occur when first taking a bag out of the box and also they have ripped once the bag has been placed and filled with food waste. I have never over filled the container, not sure what has changed to have the bags rip. Many times I need to put the damaged bag in another bag.

It’s definitely biodegradable

The only thing that surprised me, was that when I do my composting, I use a lot of fruits which naturally produce a lot of juices. Since this is biodegradable, when I take the bag out, the bottom of the bag has already been being broken down by the fruit juices therefor leaking all over me and or falling on to the floor. So word of advice: take out the black bucket part of the compost with the bag in it and transport to your bigger compost to save you a mess. Happy composting !!!

Works great!

I could give 5 stars because I really like these bags but I can't say I love a plastic bag! The box they come in is compact and it fits neatly in a kitchen drawer. Bags come out very easily and hold up pretty well - they will tear if there's anything with edges on it inside (like watermelon rind). It's my number one choice for compost bags and we don't compost - we just use a compost bin in the kitchen for our garbage because (a) the dog can't get into it and (b) it requires frequent removal so less yuckie stuff in the kitchen and no garbage odor.

Tear far too easily

These have the structural integrity of a wet tissue and tear so easily it's almost impossible to even put them in the pail without ripping it - don't even think about carrying the bag once it's full
