Absolute best gate!
This product is not only sturdy, well-made and beautiful, but it’s smoothly functional as well! I recommend ordering the “wall nanny” grips that prevent damage to your wooden door frames. That work perfectly with this gate. Gate opens with ease (press down on release & slightly lift) and closes behind you automatically. Excellent product! Love it!

Excellent gate. Worth the price
Believe me when I say I researched TONS of gates before deciding on this one. First impressions were: I liked the refined look of the gate but it was priced higher than many of its competitors. So what sets this gate apart? 1. The opening is wider than many of the other gates which is a plus when carrying anything. 2. It can be either hardware or pressure mounted which makes it versatile and suitable for stair use. Gate also comes with sticky tape for added security 3. This gate has an auto close feature which is very handy when u dont have any extra hands! Once the gate door is opened abt more than 90 degrees it will stay open, once it is abt 90 degrees or less it will close itself. Very useful for me. 4. And The best feature in my opinion, the locking mechanism. Now dont listen to the naysayers who complain that it is difficult to open it. Its quite simple. Press button and lift. Now this combination opening is really what sets it apart from other gates. My sister purchased the regalo gate around the same time for less money. And it only took her 1 yr old a couple days of observing to figure out the easy opening mechanism. This may seem odd at first to press and lift but trust that once ur baby gets older, stronger and smarter (and they will) this feature becomes a lifesaver. The gate is super stable and sturdy all on its on, havent needed to wall mount it yet and i have a VERY strong 1 yr old. Note: setup takes abt 10-30 minutes depending on your skill level. Also, I used this on my staircase and one side has a banister with grooves so to add surface area and help with stability a purchased baby safety wall cups along with it and these are placed only at the top 2 mounts. Added lots of surface area and friction to the banisters.

Munchkin Auto-Close Gate...Door swings both ways or choose one...And can be locked open
We're using this gate in a 40.25" opening & it's working great. Additional extensions can be purchased for larger openings. We use the gate when young children visit & also when we "puppy sit". Features I like: -Because we keep the gate up, but it's not used every day, I especially like that we can lock the gate open, in either direction, to make it easier for us when the little ones aren't visiting. Locking it open is simple, just push it a little farther than normal. -The door also swings either way; however, if you prefer it to open one way, it is designed with a special locking mechanism which lets you choose which way the door opens. -It is easy to set up. -An adult can lift the door to open it. It can also be opened by using the double-locking handle & pulling up on the door. -The door automatically closes behind you...just don't push it too far open. (I think it is loud when it automatically closes.) -Additional hardware is included to install the gate at the top of a stairway. -Additional extensions can be purchased for larger openings. Features that could be improved: -Although the main part of the gate is dark wood, the remainder is gray painted metal. It would look nicer if everything was dark brown to match the wood. -The instructions are illustrations only & need to be improved; they are not clear enough. Fits openings 29.5" - 40.5" wide. (additional extensions can be purchased) The gate is 29" tall. One Year Limited Warranty

Sturdy, good-looking and well designed.
We just purchased this unit for the base of our stairway. It doesn't look out of place/after market and was able to fit between the wall and the pedestal of our staircase by removing one section (the 7" double-bar section). Also, it is hard to open which I love because even my slightly-older daughter can't just get through with some pulling or jiggling of the latch. The door automatically swings-shut unless it is opened further than 90-degrees, which is great because you have the flexibility to adjust by scenario. For example, it is shut when our son is awake and downstairs, but during the work week we'll leave it open so the pets can get upstairs/downstairs during the day. There is also a lock at the base of the gate. The one thing I would note that is not readily apparent here is that there are "cups" to put the pressure mounts into and Munchkin wants you to screw these cups into the mounting surface. I had no intention of doing this, at least on the pedestal side as that is a well-made, custom piece of wood that I wouldn't just want to putty and paint over when our son outgrows the gate. The cups do have an adhesive backing also, and we used that without the screws on the pedestal side. This probably removes *any* liability from the manufacturer because we aren't setting it up as sturdily as they instruct, but with the pressure we applied using the mounts I can't see my 23-lbs son possibly pulling this thing down. It is sturdy.

Fantastic gate with great customer support
This gate is our favorite of the various gates we use in our house (we have some regalo ones and some knock-off brands as well). This gate looks nice and functions as it should all the time. In addition, Munchkin customer support goes above and beyond. We contacted them asking when the replacement plugs would be back in stock (we lost some while moving); they told us that they didn't know when they would be back in stock, but they sent us the needed parts for free.

Love this gate!
I love this auto close baby gate. After reading tons of reviews on different gates this is the one I chose and I’m so glad I did! It is very sturdy, looks more classy than a white metal gate, and I love the auto close feature. It does make a very loud bang when it closes automatically but it works great. It also has additional locks at the bottom of the gate if needed. And if you open the gate wide enough it stays open which is very nice for carrying laundry baskets or your toddler or whatever. I highly recommend!

Works perfect. Looks good and solid
The hardest part of the install was going by just the pictures and no words. But the parts are labeled and it's pretty straight forward. It took me about an hour to install. That included a trial fit with and without one of the spacers and installing the universal banister kit. As priory reviews noted, the reviewer who complained about the mid-aligned top didn't ready the instructions or the big picture on the box. As you adjust the two bolts at the top, the gate comes together perfectly. In fact it shows how to adjust the bolts if one or the other side is high. Also while the auto close is great, in our hallway with the hardwood floors, it's pretty loud. We close it by hand at night but if you've got your little one in arms the auto close is solid and reliable.

Well built gate
This gate is sturdy, easy to install (I did not use any of the extensions but based on the instructions they didn't appear to be hard to add), and looks good too. The build quality is probably what impressed me most on opening it and setting it up. I also liked the little red sticker on the accessory bag telling you that yes, the side piece is supposed to be bent away from the latch mechanism - probably a good thing to mention as it does kind of look like it's broken out of the box. It closes exceptionally well, which leads to my only real complaint: it's loud. It feels like there's a spring in the bottom hinge as well as a magnet at the base where the latch fits, and when it swings shut it slams into the gate's frame with a loud bang. So if you're going to go through it at night, ease it shut manually to avoid the noise. It's also a little tricky for younger kids to open, which is a little disappointing given that we wanted the gate to prevent the baby from getting through but allow our toddlers (3 and 5) to go through without issue. Our five year old can manage it, but at three years the amount of force needed to lift the gate up before you can open it might be a bit much, so keep that in mind depending on what you'll be using it for. For an adult, the gate is incredibly easy to open.

I bought this for my son and daughter-in-law, for the top of their stairs. My grandson is 1 week away from 19th months old and is approximately 30" tall; maybe an inch or 2 taller than the top of the gate. A very strong solid kid. The closing mechanism is able to withstand his pulling on it, and he does it hard! The automatic closing/locking is a great feature. This past weekend at our Canadian Thanksgiving dinner, there were several relatives there with young children, and the parents were very impressed with how sturdy the gate is. The gate screws into the wall and my son installed it an inch above the floor. Good purchase.

Worth it!!
When we bought this, my son was 6 months and I was new to baby gates. It took me a while to realize how much I love this baby gate. The colors are esthetically pleasing to the eye. It's really easy to open and close (which I did not realize at first). I love the self-closing mechanism... Perfect for me to kick it closed behind me when carrying a laundry basket or my boy upstairs. It is a little noisy when you do, but as long as it's not nap/bedtime that's never been an issue. As for the installation, my husband took care of that so I can't say. It didn't take him too long though so it must not have been bad ;)

Sturdy gate!
For a tension mount gate this gate is extremely secure. We have one at the top, and bottom of our stairs and it's so easy to open. Self close feature is also really handy for when going upstairs with a child in your arms. I love hearing the click to know that it has safely closed behind me. I also love that it stays open and out of the way when not needed. Only downside is that with it being a tension mount there is the piece that runs across the floor. We have never found this to be a tripping issue, but just a warning that it may be for someone else.
