Good pencils

Great charcoal pencils but do not sharp them with a normal sharpener, because the tip breaks, so sharpen them with a cutter, and please be careful when doing so.

Derwent Quality!

These charcoal pencils do not disappoint. Lovely lay down and a beautiful black color. I enjoy the feel in my hand. No hesitation to buying them again.

Good except the Light pencil keeps breaking

Overall these are good pencils. They are hard to sharpen to a good point, but most of them are usable. However, there is only one Light pencil, and I cannot sharpen it. It's now about 2/3 of its size. I tried short and long point (manual) sharpeners, the included sharpener in the kit, and a craft knife. In every case, the pencil breaks. I couldn't find an option on Amazon to Contact Seller, oddly, to ask about this, so I'm leaving the review.

Great charcoals!

Usually I use a lot of Generals charcoal but these are great to change it up once in a while. The medium and soft pencils are a bit choppy and as for the soft pencil not being able to smear into a shadow like how i need it to is a bit frustrating but I learned with this set, especially the soft pencil that a rag or sponge came in handy. Don't get me wrong. The tones and texture of these pencils could be better than generals but as far as shading goes, I prefer overall coverage that the soft pencil is made for in my opinion. Will definitely be buying more when I run out. :)

Very difficult to sharpen

They are pretty nice charcoal pencils and have worked extremely well for drawing, but they are very difficult to sharpen. The tips have crumbled repeatedly even with several different kinds of pencil sharpeners. They also don’t coat the paper very smoothly, meaning that you have to repeatedly go over an area to make it not grainy. Other than that they are great pencils and have worked quite nicely.

Great shades, needs a sharpener

They worked great and have a beautiful dark tone, the only downfall would be that they require a special sharpener or a knife which just is a waste of time to shave.

Provide a proper sharpener

First things first. These are amazing for drawing with, i love them and will buy them again. Absolutely fantastic tondraw with My issue is they come with a sharpener thats useless. The charcoal pencils are ok to sharpen to begin with but once you get into the pencil a bit, its not sharpening, its breaking off in the sharpener. So i will buy a better sharpener to see if this is a sharpening problem or a pencil fault but its an awful waste of pencil when the charocal keeps breaking and getting stuck

Great price for a quality product.

I'm using these for oil painting pre-sketch as graphite bleeds through the paint. This is a great set at a great price. Exactly as described, including the photo. Looks like I'll also get into charcoal drawing too as these look and feel great. Looking forward to seeing how the white one works too- there's 6 in total, 2 dark, 2 medium, 1 light and 1 white. The carry case is quality too- they'll stay perfect for a long time.

Easy to use

These are some great quality charcoal pencils which provide: 1 light, 2 medium and 2 dark along with a white pencil too. I used these as part of my A level fine art course and they lasted a long time and were very easy to blend too, the case they're provided with is very sturdy and protect the pencils a lot and a sharpener is provided too which works ok for the most part

Fantastic Quality

Nice addition to my drawing book. I've used a lot of charcoals in my time but these are among the best. Good price too in a world of overpriced art supplies. Verdict: Strong buy

Great pencils in very useful case

I bought these for use in my art class, having previously only used stick charcoal. These are so much easier ( and cleaner) to use. Nice metal case that protects them. There are several different shades in the case and I would definitely buy them again. I wont be going back to stick charcoal!!
