No Disappointment
I bought the set of 24 pencils, though I expect that 10 or even 8 would be sufficient. Trying them out, I did find that the darkness did vary as stated. One thing I like is the metal box. It has separate grooves that keep the pencils from rolling around and damaging the points. Also, the degree of hardness is written on all sides of each pencil, making it easier to find what I want. I would buy the set again or just replace the individual dark pencils I will be using the most. The marks are smooth and not scratchy from all the pencils.

The best out there
I am a cabinet maker and have become extremely frustrated with Ticonderoga pencils(spelling). I have burnt through boxes of there #3’s and actually threw them away. These are spendy but are well worth the price

Quality control inconsistent but good texture
If you are sending them as a gift be sure to check on them first. The first case I got did not have 2B (duplicate HB) and the second case I got had a hollow pencil without the center. Two cases with issue in a row indicates terrible quality control! The pencils are very decent quality. Smooth and easy to shade with. You can tell the transition when using the different hardness levels. The lines are consistent. I like the boxes for having fixed grids for each pencil so that they don’t move around much. I feel comfortable having hand sharpened pencils in the box and carry it around.

Meets my requirements
I recently took to sketching again after many years, and did not know very much about artist pencils. However, I really like the labeling, the differences in hard and soft, the way they sharpen without waste and the tin. I am a self-taught beginner; however, I like the control that I seem to have while using.

The BEST pencils in the market
I have been using them for 2 years. These were the first pencils I started with and no other pencil can match the feel and the softness offered by these pencils. The range they offer in the 12 pack set is can match any shade of black and it is very easy to get the deepest of blacks. Go for these with your eyes closed and you'll never regret your decision.

Ein Muss für jeden Zeichner
Staedtler bietet in dem 24er-Set eine große Auswahl an Härtegraden von 12B bis 10H. Hierbei ist 12B besonders weich und 10H sehr hart. Die weichen Bleistifte sind eher für künstlerische Zeichnungen und Skizzen ausgelegt, wobei die Harten Stifte sich besonders gut für technische und mathematische Zeichnungen eignen. Somit bietet dieses Set eine vielseitige Nutzung. Die Bleistifte fühlen sich sehr hochwertig an und lassen sich problemlos anspitzen. Ich benutze zum Spitzen von Stiften immer ein Messer. Beim Auspacken fiel mir direkt der angenehme Holzgeruch auf. Der Abrieb auf Papier ist sehr weich und flüssig, dies zeigt die hohe Qualität des Grafits. Die Mine der weichen Stifte ist dicker als die der harten. Aus diesem Grund brechen auch die weichsten Stifte nicht ab, wie es bei anderen Marken vorkommen kann. Falls Sie diese Rezension nützlich fanden, würde ich mich über einen Klick auf „Nützlich“ freuen! ????

Pencils As Smooth As Butter!
Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils. I am so glad I purchased these. I used to sketch in pencil, but then started sketching in pen for many years. I recently wanted to go back to pencil sketching, but, couldn't decide what pencils to purchase...I definitely made the right choice here. These pencils are perfection. For anyone who has ever used a 'cheap' pencil, you will notice immediately the difference. These pencils are smooth, and they glide onto the paper with such ease, like a knife through butter...wonderful. There are no 'gritty' bits in the lead. The pencils are not round in shape, they are hexaganel, which personally, I find fit easier in the hand, and do not slip from your fingers. They also sharpen without breaking (use a Staedtler sharpener). In this tin set you get 6B 5B 4B 3B 2B B HB F H 2H 3H and 4H, and I found that more than adequate for me, and for most people, that really would be all you need. The pencils sit perfectly inside a plastic compartment (individual slots), inside the tin, and so they do not move around and get damaged. As I have been sketching for many, many, years, I would say that Staedtler and Derwent are now my only choice. Buy the Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils with confidence.

Long time fan
Been using this brand of pencils since I was in school, they could take a bit of punishment and the lead inside would almost always remain intact. When I started college I had bought a 12 pencil sketching set that lasted me years. I replaced them with a Faber Castell sketching set which was fine but decided to buy this tin as it had a more comprehensive grade selection and there were less gritty blemishes in the graphite. As ever, the pencils are sturdy and the tone is excellent.
