Solid Cage
Just got this in today for my two gerbil boys. they’re already diving right in! the only issue is it was missing the little stoppers but that’s all good! and good thing the instructions are online! other than that, it is a good deal to save a few bucks! make sure you wash with dawn before you let your critters back in

Fun
Our little guy Crumbs loves his habitat. This came quickly and in unusual but sufficient packaging. The only small issue was a broken clip that we subbed a zip tie for on the side connector. Works great.

Good price, fun, a bit messy.
A great priced cage for our 1 gerbil! Lots of fun tubes and cubbies to hide in. WARNING! The one thing I didn't anticipate was Mary, our gerbil, loves to kick her bedding around and because it's a cage, instead of the tank we used to ha e her in, the bedding and poop her kicked out of the cage and onto the table she is on. Oh well, other than that, it's a great home for her.

Good for small hamsters, wheel noise is atrocious
The first thing to know is, this cage is only good for dwarf hamsters and maybe robo hamsters. We were hoping to get a Syrian but got the cage first and assembled it, so had to go smaller. The tubes aren't big enough for bigger hamsters. The second thing to know is - this is a great cage to have if you want your whole city block to hear your hamster running on the wheel. Absolutely no way you could have this in a bedroom and sleep. I ended up spending money and buying a quieter wheel (also made by Kaytee - well played Kaytee) to alleviate this. Cleaning isn't too bad. The tubes don't really need cleaning so I empty the tray and clean, wipe out the platforms and the top critter box. Takes only a few minutes. Hamster seems to like it, runs through the tubes and climbs all over. Overall its not bad for the money if you want a small hamster and don't mind noise.

Loving this for my 2 mice!
I was a little leery about choosing this habitat for my new young mice considering the mixed review, but I am glad I went ahead and tried it out! I wanted some extra space to house 2 mice and have lots of places to play. I liked the tunnels and second level platforms and especially the top nest area so I went ahead and gave this a try! Arrival This arrived completely undamaged and with all the parts. No issues at all with damage to the plastic parts. Putting it together This was a bit of a concern as I was afraid to snap the wrong pieces together and have them not come back apart or to just break something trying to get it to fit! So I went slowly and carefully through the steps to piece it together. I did have a wire bent that made it difficult to get the cage lowered into the base, but I fixed it with needle nosed pliers. I don't know that it even came that way - hiubby may have done it being to forceful trying to make it fit! So be careful and if it isn't fitting right away - look for little bends in the wire or make small adjustments to how you are fitting it down as it might be stuck up on the plastic on one side! Cleaning I have no issues taking it apart for cleaning and putting it back together. The side tube comes out easily enough and then you unclip the sides and remove the bottom. The shelves are also easily removed and the top nest comes right out as well so I have no issues at all with cleaning it. Bars As with any bars, I was concerned about escape, but so far that has not been an issue at all. Either they don't want to or can't! The bars are the narrowest that I have seen on cages of this type. Wheel The wheel is super quiet and one of our mice LOVES the wheel and goes as fast as she can so no issues there either. Top level - split I didn't love that the top level was split rather than a full floor so I solved that by buying a rope and twig bird ladder with a very narrow spacing between the pieces so it was more like a little floor. I clipped it to either side of the cage and it mostly sits on the level then goes straight across to the other side creating more of a full second floor. The mice love it and race back and forth or go up one tube, across and down the other! Water bottle Now on this item, I agree with other reviewers that it's not safe for small animals. My mice are rather young and the bottle is spring loaded so I was concerned about them being able to press it back to drink. So I picked up another water bottle where the ball moves up and down the tube freely and used that instead rather than take a risk. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and if we get another set of mice in addition to these, I would definitely purchase again!

People think it’s too small for hamsters I don’t think it is
Pretty good value for your money Some people think it’s not big enough for a hamster well I’ve owned many hamster and they were perfectly fine in a cage about this size. People don’t realize that hamsters are rodents and are very happy to live in small places

Happy hamsters! Buy extra tubes though!
I bought this to attach to our one level Crittertrail habitat. I love the habitats and, more importantly, so do our 3 dwarf hamsters. They're easy to assemble and easy to clean. The tubes are a little hard to get dry on the inside, but some clever maneuvering with a twisted up paper towel solved that. My ONLY complaint about these habitats is that nowhere does it say that to connect two habitats, you need extra tubes. Since this information isn't in the directions or on the Kaytee website, I assumed I could rearrange existing tubing to connect them. There is no way to do this without cutting off access to other parts of the cage. For example, you can't reconfigure the tubing that leads up to the petting zone or they won't be able to get to the petting zone. I tried using the tubing from the lookout accessory I bought, but A) those tubes don't fit where I need them to and B) using those tubes would render the lookout accessory useless. So my advice is that if you buy this habitat, go ahead and spend the extra $10 on a pack of extra tubes if you plan on connecting to another habitat. My little fluff balls spent an hour in the petting zone (hole sealed) while I figured this out. Also, the water bottle is no good. Buy yourself a round bottle. The one that comes with the product is square, and the nozzle doesn't line up to be perpendicular to the flat side that goes against the cage, so the nozzle ends up being hard to get to. Plus, it doesn't dispense water. Our hamsters would sit there constantly trying to get water from it. After a day of using it, I went to Tractor Supply and bought a round bottle with a wire hook and it works perfectly.

... buying this cage because there are quite a few bad reviews.
I was unsure when buying this cage because there are quite a few bad reviews.. but I always thought I could send it back. when it came which was very fast delivery! I do have to admit it was a pain to put together... but I have 3 dwarf hamsters and am sooooooo glad I spent my money on this. I know it is a bit pricey but such a good product. not only that but you can buy extensions and join 2 cages together so this is what I plan to do. they go on the wheel al the time and have had no problems they love it! there is a little hut in the roof of the cage that I fill with softer bedding and they sleep and love it. they love going up and down the tubes and seem very happy with the cage. only 1 thing I have to say.. my hamsters couldn't get he water from the bottle as the ball in the end of it is hard to move but luckily I had a different one so I attached that one. I don't know if mine was just a one off though. over all I love this cage and am very satisfying. if you are in the same situation I was about looking at the bad reviews and unsure I would rest assure it is a great cage! I would defiantly buy it agin!! if you do get it there are videos on youtube that helped me put it together that was very helpful.. but once you get past the first section thing of putting it together it is pretty straight forward. I am so pleased with this cage!! xx

Best small animal cage yet
We ordered one of these cages from Amazon after reading a review and seeing vids on youtube, so glad we did, the first one that arrived had a broken clip on the top which was obviously not due to delivery but Amazon made it a breeze to return and get a new one sent out to us in a day of reporting it, Well done Amazon! Well onto the review.... what a fabulous cage, needs some skill to put together but once you have done it once it is a breeze to do, some folks have said it is hard to clean this cage but me and my wife have found it no harder than the simple plastic cage that we got with our mouse.... Just shoo your critters into the bedroom?petting area, lift it out and cap the opening with the provided stopper, put them to one side where they can watch you clean their house, clip the pipes of each side of the cage and unclip the two bottom clips the whole top of the cage lifts off in one piece allowing you to empty out the base and clean it down, the shelves just slot over the cage bars and remove simply to wash them down, we use a bucket with mild disinfectant in and separate all the pieces to wash, rinse and dry them, takes about 20 mins in total and the plastic is microantibacterial coated to provide better protection. they clip back together easily and if you expand the system with the critter trail expansion kits your mouse/hamster will love you forever lol. Also to note is that Amazon send out the latest version of this cage which has spring loaded catches on the doors and external water bottle and is much improved on the earlier version. :-)

DONT buy this cage!!!
Firstly the local animal shelter would not allow me a hamster because they said this cage was too small. After I managed to get a smaller hamster with the agreement of extending the cage to make it bigger, the first night of the hamster being in it it managed to chew out of the top plastic blue part and was able to get out! Luckily I was around to stop it venturing! The second night the hamster spent in the cage the poor little thing was in the wheel and its hair became trapped :( the poor thing had a chunk of hair pulled out which broke my heart. I would not recommend this cage to anyone, it is not fair to put a hamster in here.

The best hamster cage EVER
Its a great cage because my hamster found it easy to use (my hamster is a Russian dwarf hamster) The first time it used the long tube it could not get down but now it finds it easy to use. Its easy too clean out,i have a tip when you (if you do) clean out the tubes if you can't open them up you can use a hair dryer to dry them. Its also great cause the bed opens right up and life straight out. I fully recommend buying this cage and its worth every penny!

Too Small and no bed area
Like all of the critter trail items I have it isn't really well designed, the most natural place for the hamster to sleep is the petting area which isn't well ventilated and isn't deep enough for him to make a good den. The cage doesn't have enough room anywhere else to add another bed, only thing to do is buy extensions but this then becomes a VERY expensive hamster house. It does look great and we have had fun adding extra tubes, bed areas etc but then it becomes a nightmare to take apart and clean.
