Almost perfect
We love almost every aspect of this cage. It's spacious, multileveled, the tray slides out very easily. My 10 year old can finally change the bedding of the hamster by herself. The only thing we had to adjust is adding a small lego block on each side of the board that flips up in order to take the tray out as there seems to be a nickel sized gap on each side. We get chinese dwarf hamsters, these gaps would be enough for the hamster to squeeze through when young. It is perfect now. We went through two different systems before we purchased this cage. We finally found something that works.

Review Time
Okay so this is my first ever review on a purchase, but let’s get started! The cage itself is beautiful it’s a decent size big enough for my teddy bear hamster, when I purchased this cage I was hoping for an easy assembly. Goodluck with the assembly part it’s sturdy once you get it together but it takes some time! Cleaning is more of you need to do a wipe down every couple of days and cleaning the tray is the hardest part if you have big wheels and toys at the bottom, the best thing to do while putting this cage together is put your accessories in there before putting the cage fully together because there is not taking it apart and the doors aren’t big enough for anything to fit through. I’m just stating facts about this cage, I love the cage it’s beautiful my Apollo loves it he has a decent amount of room and he loves it. The cage is just flawed in some ways but which one isn’t? I paid a good amount for it but would not do it again.

Decent, would probably not buy again
I just got the cage today and my only complaint is the instructions were confusing. None of the pieces were numbered and it felt like a guessing game. Other then that the Hamster looks to enjoy it so far. Edit: I’m changing my rating from four stars to three. I’ve had the cage for little more than week now. Luckily my hamster isn’t one to chew plastic and haven’t gotten ahold of the wood fame yet. But I’ve had have hamsters in the past who would eat anything in its way, so if you know your hamster likes eating through plastic I would probably get a different cage. Pros: When not using the grate for the bottom my hamster had room the barrow. (Past cages where too small.) Some what easier to clean then one of those ‘basic’ cages you can get at the pet store. (Nice how you can just pull the bedding tray out from the bottom.) Cons: The gate doors are too small. It’s hard to put my hands in the change the water and fill the food bowl. I also couldn’t fit accessories through it. I had to take the bottom out and awkwardly reach my hand under to put a new wheel in. Stuff it comes with doesn’t work. The bottle doesn’t let out any water, luckily I had another bottle that I had in there. The wheel broke, guess my hamster is a little too chunky for it. (He is a Syrian) The ramps keep falling off and aren’t hooking in correctly. I know that one day my guy is going to fall and most likely hurt himself. Platforms didn’t come with a protective coat. Just straight up wood, so pee would get soaked up in it. Cleaning isn’t the easiest thing ever. There really isn’t any easy way to get the hamster out (for me). Since the doors are small I can’t really put my hands in and pick him up. And if I try to pull out the try with him in it, he will try and bite me. (This is mostly just personal to me, cleaning could be easier for others). At the end of the day the cage works. But I probably wouldn’t buy it again. Also hamster’s name is Dumpster.

Cute cage. I have some suspicions my hamster will escape
The cage definitely looks like the picture advertised. I was a little disappointed with the wood. The bridges and levels felt so rough to the touch that I hand sanded them. For such an expensive cage, I expected better. I also have some pretty big concerns that any hamster will escape this cage in enough time. Now that I've seen it in person, the design makes it pretty easy for a hamster to chew at the bottom or corners. I feel like I now have to craft some cage improvement to combat this or give my hamster other things that are so enticing to chew on that they leave the cage alone.

Cage wire spacing's good for Roborovskis
That's what I was searching for when looking for a cage, so that's my headline. Even babies can't squeeze between the wires. That said, the biggest issue I had was that they gnawed through the front corners of the plastic bin on the bottom and kept squirming free through it. I put a wooden dowel in the front and stopped that. Overall, I really like this cage vs the neon plastic competition. The cage size and spacing allowed for me to Frankenstein a couple of layers on with old cage pieces, which has worked very well for adding space. What I approve of most is that it LOOKS very nice. It's not a horrendous eyesore of a plastic bubble. It's an unobtrusive dull wooden cage that has ample space for hammies without standing out horribly. Plus it's mostly wire, not solid walls. I fill the bottom bin with sand, and they burrow about happily, but the whole cage has air circulation because the walls are wire instead of solid plastic.

Retains smell but looks nice
Was pretty tricky to assemble and it was super frustrating to get all the shelves in without having them fall off constantly. Once they’re in they’re sturdy enough, but getting them there is a challenge. The pieces don’t quite fit together either, so you just kind of have to push and shove until it works. The ramps and the platforms are NOT finished, so I have no idea what the water resistant coating they talk about in the description is. There’s nothing on these to stop them from absorbing everything that gets on them, and they also splinter pretty easily. I have to check often to make sure they’re not super splintery and they’re safe for my rat. They stain really easily no matter how much scrubbing you do, and they retain smell so so badly. I’ve tried everything to get the smell out but it just does not work. Ultimately it looks cute and it’s a decent size, but it’s not worth the cost. Definitely don’t get it if your animal isn’t totally litter trained because the ramps and platforms WILL stain and they will smell if pee or anything gets on them.

Looks great horrible to clean
This cage looks great and was ok to assemble the first time. However, it is not easy to clean. Yeah wood is great, but the urine and fecal matter just soaks into the wood. You have to take the whole cage apart to clean it. Once it is clean it is a pain to get back together. The screws are not as tight and pieces start to break. But it looks really nice so it depends on what you want.

Very cheaply made, rodents will eat through the wood and plastic!
Arrived with broken wooden parts and couldn’t even be assembled. VERY cheap wood. Hamsters and mice will eat through this cage and escape. Many customers who have bought this cage have had that issue if you read the reviews on Amazon.com. Returning for a refund.

Beautiful, large enough cage
I use the cage for my hamster who was previously in two habitrail put together. In the habitrails she placed constantly and wouldn't stop chewing the cage so I ordered this one. It's a bit more expensive than others but I loved the look. I'm horrible at construction jobs but I got it together easily enough! I probably should have used a corner aligner for a better job though. The base slides out which is awesome for cleaning, but my hammys house and the ramp makes it a bit of a pain to do. Similarly putting in any big items is a bit of a pain as the two doors are small (would love to see a bigger opening) and big items must be put in with the base tray removed. More than enough space for my hammy though. She loves how deep the base is for burrowing. She loves climbing the cage bars and running up and down the ramps. There was room to add her favorite hammock and a large wheel (most wheels that come with any brand of cage are too small for full grown hamsters). I love that she has places to hide from our 4 year old who sometimes forgets that hamster needs space. Base is super easy to clean. I've had no problems wiping pee off of the wood levels either. Would be easier to do with a larger opening though. Overall absolutley love it. Hammy has lots of room and is much much happier than she was with the two habitrails together before.

good size cage for a hamster, but needed tweaking
I love that this is a natural wood cage - it is very Waldorf like - which is why I chose it. That said, the hamster likes to chew through the wooden slot at the bottom that can be opened to remove the bottom plastic tray - also likes th chew the plastic tray. So I had to hot glue wooden chew sticks from the pet store to the side of the tray and door to prevent him from chewing his way out. This came in many pieces and my 9-year-old son enjoyed putting it together to set up his new pet's habitat. He did require assistance to assemble. Plastic bottom is easy to wash, and the tray is deep enough for hamster to tunnel in. the wooden shelves are also coated on one side to prevent damage from urine or water. Overall a good product if you are proactive in gluing on extra wood where the hamster is chewing.

Expected more for the price.
I expected a lot more for the price of this product. There are several things wrong with the design: 1. There are only small doors, which means to take out anything big you need to take the floor pan out to do so, which meand popping off the lower ladder. 2. The diagram says that for cleaning you can place the wire bottom above the tray and then remove the tray. However the only thing that holds the wire up is the tray, so it's essentially useless. 3. The wheel and house it comes with are very small, only good for a dwarf hamster. 4. As I was putting it together, a piece of the wood cracked because it wasn't pre-drilled. 5. I wish there was an option to have the platforms in plastic because while wood is more environmentally friendly, plastic is certainly easier to clean because it doesn't soak up liquid.
