You Can't Go Wrong
We love Mexican food, especially tacos. We used a corn tortilla recipe that I got off of the internet, which was 2 cups of masa herena, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. oil (optional) and about 1 1/2 cups very warm water. You blend all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl by hand until the mixture is the consistency of cookie or play dough. If it the mixture is crumbly and won't hold together in one ball it's too dry, add more water a tsp. at a time. If the mixture sticky and sticks to you hands, then it's too wet, add more masa. Once you have the mixture to the right consistency, wrap it in plastic wrap and let it rest on the counter for at least 30 minutes. Do not put it in the refrigerator. While the tortilla dough is resting, take a standard Zip Lock sandwich bag and cut off, cutting as close as you can the zipper part. Then take a sharp knife and split out the rest of the sandwich bag, so you are left with 2 equal size pieces of plastic. You may use a quart or gallon size bag and cut them down, but the sandwich size works best. The sandwich size bag once done as directed, is the exact size that will fit the tortilla press and the sandwich size bag is more pliable than the larger bags, which makes for easier handling. Once your dough has rested, preheat a Comal, which is what we use or a large cast iron skillet or griddle to medium high heat (no oil, use dry). While you're preheating your cooking vessel, take the dough and form it into balls about the size of golf balls and set aside, covered with some damp paper towels to keep them from drying out. Then open the tortilla press and take one piece of the plastic and place it on the plastic on the bottom of the press, placing it slightly closer to the hinge side and then cover it with the other piece of plastic and press it down a little with the heel of your hand to form the ball into a small disc and then close the press and push down until it forms about a 6" diameter disc. Then very carefully peel each piece of plastic from the newly formed raw tortilla and in one motion flip it over onto the preheated Comal and cook about 30-45 seconds on each side or until it puffs up or the edges start to lift. Do not over cook or it will be stiff and you won[t be able to bend it for tacos or roll it for enchiladas. Immediately place the cooked tortillas in a tortilla warmer or on a plate and cover with a dish towel to keep warm. This recipe makes about 12 -15 six inch tortillas. I will never buy store bought tortillas again. There is no comparison. The home made are so much more tender and the taste is far superior to the ones you buy in the store. Also, these are so easy and fun to make. The tortilla press works perfectly and is of high quality. Note! Hand wash only. Placing this or any other aluminum product in the dishwasher will ruin the finish.

Tortilla Press
I don't have a lot (okay, any) experience with tortilla presses. I've only been making my own tortillas for about 9 months, and I've just been rolling them out. I got this tortilla press using a Christmas gift card, and it has made tortilla making a real joy! Not to mention, it cut the prep time by at least half, maybe more. Like other reviewers mentioned, you have to put the dough slightly off-center in the press, otherwise your tortilla squishes out the edge. But that's not a big deal. Keep it off to one side and you'll get perfect, round tortillas every time. Also, make sure you use some sort of plastic to line the press before using (I use a storage bag that I cut open). If you don't, you won't be able to get your tortilla off in a manner that will allow it to be cook-able, much less usable. Also like others mentioned, the tortillas are a little thick, but not enough that I regret my purchase. In fact, I think they're better this way - you don't have to double them up on your tacos. Some people complained that the size was too small, but I don't think it was. The six-inch size is pretty much what commercial corn tortillas are (at least in my area, in the Pacific NW). So, in a nutshell, I HIGHLY recommend this product, especially if you're still rolling tortillas by hand. You'll get a much more consistent product much faster.

Para tortillas funciona muy bien

Perfectly good. Had I experience I'd have gone bigger.
I just wanted to make feeding myself lefse easier. I'm new at making it, and alergic to wheat. Now I wish I could grow this sucker so I'd be turning uot 8" rounds if I felt like it. But the thing itself is perfectly good, takes no space to store, rinses free of any dough that slipped past the plastic (for God's sake, use plastic!) or silicon pad (silicon pad lets you make a thinner round!). Says right on it NOT to dishwash it, dufus who dishwashed it.

Solid tortilla press
I should maybe give myself 4 stars (or less) on this one and not the press. The press itself works great and is a good value. It has solid construction, is easy to use, and cleans up quickly. And, despite some of the reviews, it is NOT hard to press down - at all. My 10 year old can make perfectly flat tortillas with zero effort or struggle. My only complaint is that I have had to use parchment paper to make my tortillas, as they stick horribly to the metal. Again, I kind of figured this going in, but it is a bit of a pain. Side note - plastic wrap was a total mess, but the parchment works very well - I cut mine in half width-wise to conserve paper (and you could really reuse it if you had to or are on a really tight budget). I may try spraying it with a non-stick pan spray to see if I can avoid the paper, but I'm also not a fan of all the chemicals in those products.

Very nicely made but a little on the small side
I had never made tortillas before and it was actually much easier than i thought it would be. This press makes it easy to press out the tortillas. I gave it four stars instead of 5 for 2 reasons: The tortillas are a little on the small side and the dough pushes to the handle side of the press every time making them uneven. I had to put the dough almost all the way at the back in order to get evenly formed tortillas. Overall, it is very well made and easy to use.

Work well but a little thicker than I would like
Unit works as advertised. For me, the resulting tortillas are a little thicker than I would like requiring the use of the rolling pin afterwards. This depends on your use and personal preference.

Good quality - really improves my tortillas and flat breads
very sturdy and simple to use. I have tried wrapping the plates in clingfilm as suggested - with slightly mixed results depending on the kind of dough. I find that corn flour based doughs are a bit more crumbly and likely to break off a little than white flour mixes which are stretchier. Overall though it makes my efforts significantly more professional looking, more consistent in shape and size, easier to cook consistently and to cap it all it is fun. Youngsters would like to help with this I think and it is pretty safe for them to use I believe with a bit of supervision

It really works and does the job easier.
I like it, it's light, easy to handle. I Keep the tortillas presser in my kitchen cabinet, in the delivered carton box, it keeps it protected... and the presser does the great CORN tortillas. Nothing compares, even simple fried beans or beans as a soup, with corn tortillas becomes so delicious. To make the corn tortillas with "maseca" use warm water, the warmer the better, "it becomes as the consistency of "play dough", and sprinkle a bit of salt. Put the masa in a plastic ziploc to keep the dough soft.

Tortilla Press
Quite a strong neat product made very nice tacos as it presses just that size. Very easy to use but you do need plastic sheets between the plates, freezer bags work very well. Though I did have to pay import taxes on this item, that is not mentioned in the price.

Great tortilla press for the price!
Great product which makes homemade tortillas so easy. I can never go back to using store-bought tortillas. It is only a 6-inch press so tortillas are on the smaller side, but it’s easy to use and quick to churn out.
