Perfect for spices and meds. And beautiful!

I do a lot of cooking and make all of my seasonings. The 4.5 inch set is perfect for this. I like that it is good and solid and fits nicely in the palm of my hand. I chose this one because the pestle is longer than some of the others (6"), making it very easy to grind up spices without hitting the sides with your hand. The outside is smooth and the inside part is rough, as is the end of the pestle. Maybe that is how they're all made, and it keeps the contents from sliding around. This is also a thick and durable mortar and pestle and I'm sure it is going to last a long time. I wasn't sure of the spout at first, but yes, it makes pouring the mix easily into a small bottle. It also looks very nice in my kitchen window. I am happy and satisfied with this choice and do recommend it to others without hesitation!

Crushes Excedrin and aspirins with ease! It's a bit small though.

When I have a headache, I want quick relief and those aspirin powders like Goodies and BC powder aren't cheap for some reason so I make my own by crushing pills with this neat little mortar and pestle which is pretty sturdy for its small size. I put like two or three Excedrin pills in and crush away. When it comes to crushing the non-coated 325 mg aspirin pills, I put four or five pills in and it'll crush them all at once. It's smaller than I thought it would be but the walls of the bowl part are thick and so there's no worries about it breaking in your hand or anything when you're crushing things up. I'm not going to try it but I'll bet if you dropped it on the floor it wouldn't break, it's that thick. I wish the handle was a bit longer but as long as you have a good grip on it when you're crushing things then you'll be fine. If you've never used one before then just cup the bowl with one hand then turn and grind with the other hand. Also, swirl the contents around inside the bowl and crush and grind some more. Don't forget to rotate the pestle some as your crushing, it will make for much faster work. It will turn pills into fine powder in no time. There might even be some YouTube videos out there of people showing how to use these things. No more crushing pills between spoons anymore, this is the way to go from here on out. I keep my mortar and pestle in a sandwich bag to keep the dust and whatnot out of it to keep it clean. I don't clean it between uses because I'm always crushing the same things over and over but if you had to clean it then it would be easy to clean. I did a little research and I read that you're not supposed to use soap, just scrub it clean with water. On the second to last photo I took, it shows how I hold the pestle with the top of the handle tucked into my hand resting almost in between my index and middle finger. The last photo shows how I press down with the pestle into the mortar when I'm crushing pills. I can't show you how I hold the mortar and use the pestle at the same time because I needed one hand to hold my phone to take the picture but imagine me cupping the mortar with my left hand (like in the second picture I took) and having my right hand pressing down into it with the pestle. I've never used one of these things before in my life but it's not hard to figure out once you get the hang of it but that won't take long at all. It didn't for me. For the low price they were asking for this thing it's totally worth buying. But if you need something bigger then spend a few dollars more. Make sure that you make note of the dimensions of the thing before you buy it if size is a concern. Like I said before, I didn't realize how small this was until I got it but it has worked out fine and I'm glad I got it.

Though the size is correctly shown in the add, you don't realize how small it really is until you use it. That is my only complaint and not really the sellers fault.

Useful … I use it to crush a small Rx for my Dog as she spits out even the smallest pill . Other uses will be limited due its small but I LOVE it….

Small but Usable

This is smaller than expected but very usable for crushing Saffron threads or pills. In fact the small size is an advantage for storing it in a kitchen cabinet.

Just Perfect!

Exactly what I wanted. Perfect size, rough bowl interior surface. Perfect for pulverising medications. Easy to hold and use. Washes totally clean. Dropped mine and it broke. So happy to find the same model to replace it!
