Bought this for my Grizzly drill press
When it arrived it seemed a bit large for my intended purposes of using it on my Grizzle drill platform. I even contemplated returning it. Not only is it a bit large but it's heavier than it looks, which is a plus. I now use it as a stand-alone vice for blademaking and small arm repairs. I bought a nylon vice jaw set (Amazon asin# B082DPV8SG) to offset the vices small gap. The heaviness of this vice means that I can move it around my home shop and it stays put without bolting it to the work bench. This vice locks up hard, and the cam action is smooth and crisp, don't know how I did without it. I did however make a cover for it, despite having a dust collector, my shop gets covered in Micarta, G10 and metal dust, the cover is to keep the FOd out of the vice's cams. If I could give it 6 stars I would.

This is an accurate and quick to use vise
This is an accurately machined and very quick to use vise. Not having to turn a crank to clamp workpieces is a great convenience. I highly recommend it.

very well made
Looked at a lot of screw type vices and there seemed to be a lot of slop in the operation. This vice is very tight tolerance and operates smoothly. Also i like the quick operation of the cam instead of endless turning of a screw. I had no problem attaching to my drill press. Information about the vice seemed accurate. I have no complaints and could have given 5 stars.

Very nice performance for the price
Easy to use with precise action. I made a set of aluminum jaws with a small step to hold circuit cards. It would also work very well as a drill press vise.

Awesome 3" Vise...
I love the recessed jaws as it allows one to lay a piece on the shoulder so its level and it leaves space underneath for drill to protrude through without getting close the drill press table...It also sidesteps the process of needing to put a spacer under the piece...Then if you need deeper clamping lay the piece on the round guides as they are hard and you can't hurt them...Either way, the one inch clamping on the top or bottom is plenty as this vise really clamps as hard as the user desires...Then of course if one absolutely can't live without the entire surface matching then make some new jaws or install shim stock behind the old ones until the surfaces match...Bottom line, this vise maker understands what users really want and with some ingenuity allows the user to modify...A win win all the way around.... I also appreciate the design so that users can adjust the clamp tightening throw to their desire...This will also allow for adjustments as the vise wears... The whole design allows for quick product change with very secure clamping...I just don't see whats not to like with this vise, other than its not free... kd

Good vice for the price with a few limitations.
Works great—the only thing I’m not thrilled about is that the cast jaw surfaces protrude beyond the ground jaw surfaces. So you can’t clamp anything thinner than about .3 inches without using parallels or something like that. But I guess it’s done this way to give you a machines lower surface since the ways aren’t used for that purpose as they are on a milling vice. See pictures Clapping function works well, although the cam requires some force to clamp and you have to clamp it most of the way to get it over center so it will stay. Shipping box was a joke—heavy vice rattling around in a box 2x too large with a strip of wadded paper for “padding”. Somehow it wasn’t too damaged when it got here (just the paint scuffed off one corner) so i’m going to keep it. But I suspect other people will get damaged vices if their box is dropped. Note mine came from amazon warehouse so the new ones may be packed better. All in all a good tool for the price paid (got mine from amazon warehouse for a bit of a discount).

Good little vise, with a slight limitation...
The review by Will Heltsley nails it. This is a decent vise and it works well most of the time, but the fact that the machined surface of the jaws is recessed somewhat from the cast portion limits your ability to clamp objects deeper that an inch, because the lower cast section of the jaw will contact the workpiece before the machined section. You could make a thicker pair of machined jaw 'pads', but that's about the only way to overcome this limitation. If you always drill things that are less than an inch thick, you'll be fine or if you can clamp the lower section of the work in the machined jaws and allow the rest to protrude above the vise, you're OK, too. It's a pretty neat little unit, works well and it's a good deal for the price, but that one limitation should be corrected by the manufacturer.

hhip-pes Ding
