Seems like great product
Haven’t used yet. But, was impressed with the sturdiness.

Nice craftsman vise
To be clear I have not placed a bar or pipe in this vise and beat on it with a hammed to shape it. If you use one that way my review will not help. That said I really like this compact well designed vise. One point of the design that stands heads and shoulders above the comp, is that the base allows the vise to swivel 360 degrees. Hoodog! If you want to utilize your vise fully on a small work bench you need to be able to swing to either or both sides, so 360 degrees is important. It grips very well, sturdy so steady, finally the swivel lock is two, count 'em two, levers so one is on each side. I love that feature. I mounted this on a pre-built workbench that is 4 ft long and the size is a great match. You would not want anything larger. I did find, as are most new vises, that there was some dirty grease that needed wiping off and the main spindle threads were dry. I lubed up the threads it is smooth as silk. Do this, it will improve your overall experience. Being 66 yrs old I doubt I will be buying more in the future, but you should. Money well spent.

Sturdy with Harbor Freight fit and finish
This vise is a real mixed bag - better than I feared but worse than I'd hoped, particularly with the Yost name attached. First off I'm not a pro, just a homeowner tired of "homeowner grade" tools that break. My first thought for a vise was to get a used one, but my area has a truly dire selection at this price point. After months of looking I decided to take a chance on something new. The good: this vise certainly seems sturdy. It's honestly overkill for me. My primary concern with this purchase was getting something that won't break. The world is rife with reports of cheap cast iron vises with casting voids or impurities that snap in half when you need them most. My hope with this vise was that the material (cast steel) and heft would prevent that. In person it does inspire confidence, although I haven't tested it's limits. The jaws on my example line up, which was a fear based on some reviews. Once clamped down, it holds fast and hard. The bad: fit and finish. So far removed from the online shots it's almost a different product. Absolutely none of the surfaces are what I would consider "machined". More like gone over once with a 40 grit grinder. There's burrs everywhere. The crinkle coat on my example had a couple of spots that got missed or rubbed off in transit. And the slop! There is slop simply everywhere slop could be. The main screw's retention pin is off by a mile, giving the handle slop. It wobbles and waggles when adjusting, because the fitment of the bar in the body is approximate at best (with no means of adjustment). The main screw binds up at 90% extension for reasons I can't quite diagnose. I took it apart and did my best to clean it up, but most of the issues are simply cast in. Honestly it's on par with stuff I've bought from Harbor Freight in terms of fit and finish. I guess you get what you pay for with this one, and not a penny more

Not as beefy as I anticipated, but the fit and finish are both very good.
This is a general purpose vise for my garage and it appears to be a good value. The size of the jaw opening for the price is better than many alternatives. I like the idea of steel vs. gray iron from a strength basis particularly in shock loading like hammering on a piece clamped in the jaws. Gray iron is strong, but does not understand flexing or bending - it behaves more like glass in these conditions; it is very tough right up until the time it shatters. The ideal solution would be ductile iron, but confirming they actually supplied ductile vs gray iron is a job for a test lab and not worth the effort or risk. Some people complained the Yost name was not on the vice, but I really don't care if it is or is not - no impact on function.

Anvil part is too soft
So far this is very solid, but the anvil part shows marks and I can feel small indentations with my finger. I didn't expect that and didn't have that on my old cast iron vise I could pound on anything on my old Littlestown No 150 vise's anvil all day long and it shrugged it off, but not this one. Unfortunately the 150's jaws snapped off in the cold.

Its Purdy & Sturdy.
It has room for 5/8 inch bolts, so you can seriously lock it down, I've put some pretty heavy demands on it without any loosening or anything even taxing its abilities, simply put if you need a solid vise, this is the one. I like the yellow high visibility color, it looks good in the shop.

Yost makes good vises.
I am a professional fine woodworker, and vices are important in my work. I've therefore researched them extensively, and am always lead to Yost, never disappointed by them. The price point is good, but that means nothing if the thing does not work. Yost provides both a fair price and strong function.

Use caution. " Utility "
Do not confuse this vise with a Wilton or Record both of which may cost $100 more . When mounted to bench as close as possible to the front edge, the back jaws are behind the the front edge of bench. making vertical securing of any piece longer than the height of the vise difficult at best. The description quote " Utility " can obviously have more than one interpretation. Cn.

Would Recommend
all I can say is as a farmer I bought the 6" vice to replace one that I broke on the farm, and after using this vice a few times now, I would recommend it, id also say that ill probably be getting another one one as well for my shop.

Great vise
This is a great vise. It is cast steel and costs significantly more than a similar cast iron vise. It supposedly is stronger, but who knows... It works perfectly.
