Good value.
The place I work for is required to have 2 units of this with a valid calibration certificate. Instead of sending our olds to a calibration facility, we are just buying 2 every year and it is cost saving than having calibrated.

Build Quality Questionable ==> Review Updated
Out of the box the unit would not power up (or perhaps just the display simply would not power up). After replacing the battery, which I thought must be DOA, I discovered that the display powered up after pressure was applied near the battery compartment. Upon further troubleshooting, the sweet (dead) spot turned out to be an area on the left size of the bezel just below where the probe is mounted. Applying very slight pressure at this point shut the unit down. (Again, it could be just the display losing power.) I could get the unit to stay on, but the slightest touch to the left bezel again shut it down. I don't object to overpriced Chinese-made goods--it's today's reality--I do object, though, to sloppy quality assurance. (Neither the shipping box nor the unit packaging showed any signs of distress, by the way.) Thanks to Amazon's no-hassle return policy, this unit is being sent back. Since I'm desperate for a hygo-thermometer that is easy to read, I ordered a replacement unit. I'll give it another try. Update 2015-03-08: The replacement unit from Amazon powered up without issue. In comparing the temperature reading to three other hygro-thermometers, it was within 1 degree. The humidity reading is within 4 percent of my other units, which is within tolerance. The unit responds very quickly to temperature changes. After three weeks in my wine cabinet, I am satisfied with the performance. Further, I'm impressed that a rep from Extech Instruments offered to assist. (See comment to original post.) The value of good customer support cannot be overstated. I've changed my rating from 1 to 4. Keeping me from rating a 5: Value. At a Chinese labor rate of about $2.50/hour, I expect a better price.

Humidity Not Accurate
I have four these and noticed that, while the temperature readings seem pretty accurate, the humidity levels are questionable. The two in the photo have been in my basement in the same spot for several days. The humidity readings are very different while the temperature readings are identical (though they do drift apart sometimes by a few tenths). The batteries are fresh in each and the units have been reset. So it's hard to tell which humidity reading is the correct one. Other than that, the display is large and easy to ready. The batteries last a long time. The Max/Min button maintains a convenient record of the highest and lowest recorded temperature and humidity levels.

(Edited) Save your money...
I am editing this review from 1 to 5 stars. The original unit was defective so I contacted the seller and the customer service they provided was perfect. They provided a second unit within a week. It is rare to have the ability to personally contact a vendor and to have no-nonsense service...very professional and they stand by their product. For this reason, they get a 5-star review!! Original review: Extremely disappointed. I purchased the Extech Model 445815 standard configuration with the attached probe. A feature that lured me in was that this unit was able to be calibrated. I looked at the NIST traceable options as I would like a somewhat accurate reading of RH in any meter I am choosing. However at either $130 or $173, the price is certainly prohibitive for this level of hygrometer. Using the Boveda One-Step calibration standard of 75% RH, I followed those instructions to the letter. The Extech never registered above 56%. No problem I thought, I will adjust the calibration bucket and line the display up with the calibration value. To my surprise, and as noted in other negative reviews, the calibration bucket did nothing at all...no change in value with 1/2 turn...after several minutes, another half turn and still nothing. Rinse and repeat. Bottom line is the RH calibration does nothing. I was able to calibrate the Temperature and that adjustment screw worked. My experience indicates to me that this is very poor quality toy with ornamental features at best. Save your money on this one folks as you will be disappointed. If you need accuracy, you will need to step up to a scientific-level meter at much higher cost point...This unit is NOT the answer.

A1 Monitor - Damp reality
No technical advice or comparisons here, I'm no scientist, this monitor works out of the box just pull the tab from the battery compartment to get it started. I needed to find out the humidity levels in the house as it felt cold and a little damp and before investing in a dehumidifier I wanted to see just what was going on, it registered 70% and remained at this level or above for days so I did then invest in a dehumidifier, the interesting thing for me was that this monitor and the reading on the dehumidifier were closely aligned so I knew I did have a damp problem. The dehumidifier did it's job collecting a surprising amount of water, 2 weeks later the humidity in the house is running at 53% and the monitor reflects the same. I know this unit is expensive but I wanted something that gave accurate readings before spending more on a dehumidifier I might not need, I'm glad I bought this it gave the reality needed to understand the house was damp and something needed to happen to make it healthier. There is a lot of science in the other reviews and it does push more for use in computer rooms etc, but if you do want to accurately measure the humidity in your home I would invest in this unit, it's not attractive, it is green but it works and that's all that matters.

More expensive then some but well worth it
I bought this after much research and I'm sure I have made the right choice.I suffer badly with COPD and I need a more accurate reading of the air quality in my home so I can set my other equipment to fine tune the air for better breathing ....Firstly...It is very accurate and you also have the ability to calibrate it with the appropriate Kit but it is £30,but remember...DO NOT mess with these adjustment screws unless.A) you know what your doing and B) you own the calibration kit,,They are not there to tamper with otherwise and even when using the screws ,only very small adjustments have to be made each time allowing 30 mins between each adjustment if temp and Dew point is essential then look no further..It also comes with an 18" probe which sits on the side in it's own little holder...this is great for those hard to get to places that need to check if damp has set in. It's real easy to set up and it's quick to respond to the atmosphere around it which is handy as you don't always want to leave it hours on end for results...It's also very well made with a small kick stand at the rear to place on any flat surface..You also have the ability to set a high and low humidity (maybe more for those monitoring technical equipment) and also a reset button to see what changes have occured during the day. I will point out that it IS Green with a silver accent and not black as the main photo shows, but it looks quite smart none the less...£40 gets you a great accurate Temp gauge and Dew point monitor and it does a fantastic job.Highly recommended

Buy these save money
Trede loads of other cheap alternatives costing around £10 each but all displayed incorrect results, I know as I purchased four of them at a time. This is the only one that had accurate reading. I checked two of these with test kits and really accurate. It's the old addage isn't it you get what you pay for. So don't wast £40 on other rubbish buy these.

Inconsistent on programming of modes to change limits
This item was inconsistent on selecting the modes to change the settings by pushing buttons as shown on the small cover with the instructions on the rear of the meter, difficultly in setting low and high alarm setting because the mode buttons failed to function as they should ,the stand was flimsy.

Reasonable little until
A nice little until, the temperature seems to be quite accurate, not sure about the % of the relative humidity. The the dew point temperature is accurately calculated between the two figures. Maybe it's a bit over priced for what it is?
