Great addition to my weather station
It works, make sure you add it to the same channel as the weather station.

Great Acurite Accessory for my Iris
Came quickly and was as described

Bought as a replacement
I have an AcuRite weather station and the outdoor temperature, humidity and lighting sensor quit working after a couple of years. This one synced right up. I'm on my second rain gauge too. Wish these lasted longer but for the money the are decent.

Multi property sensor, home assistant
Chose this sensor as it also has the storm/lightning detector. This has a learning curve which I am still learning. Alert is reset after 2 hours what I understood from the manual, but it keeps the last distance of the 'last' detected storm and increase the lightning counter. Easy to read is really unapplicable, but I'm reading it with rtlsdr and that was quite easy to set up.

Had it in service for 6+ months and so far very happy with performance.
I use this as a standalone temperature and humidity sensor that I query with a Nooelec SDR (software defined radio) and rtl_433 software. Signal strength reliable and appears error free. I use it to track and record temperature and humidity in a vacation home ~2500 miles from my primary home. I ssh into a linuxmint server at my vacation home and scan the json logs that I record on that server. Just bought two more units to implement a similar setup in my primary home for use when I am at my vacation home.

Pretty Good But Nothing Is Perfect
So I've had this for a few months now and so far I like it. Accuracy: I have this in addition to a 5-in-1 Pro unit and they seem to be pretty consistent temperature/humidity-wise. This lightning detector is hung on my west porch, so it is prone to give temperatures higher than what really is due to any sun hitting it. At night, it's the same as the other weather sensor. Lightning detecting: A pretty fair job, but again, it's prone to some minor interference giving false positive strikes when the skies are blue. But if you read the manual, certain electronics in the vicinity can cause this... and I have a TON of electronics within 20 feet of this. Normally, no false strikes. It looks pretty durable. The beep warnings are not blaring so I have no problem leaving it outside in fear of annoying my neighbors. It does have a red light that will blink if it thinks it picks up a nearby lightning strike. I'm actually pretty happy with this. More often than not, it will detect far away lightning strikes giving me a heads-up as to what may be on the horizon. Recommended? Absolutely.

Best offline predictor of extreme local weather events available
Satellite imagery is of course the gold standard for exteme local weather prediction. But if you don't have access to satellite data, or just want to augment your system, then this easily beats a "falling barometer". It can be used alone or with a compatible system. And that system doesn't necessarily have to be AcuRite. The OOK-modulated signals at 433MHz can be received and decoded by an SDR. And the device doesn't need to be outside. Mine is near a window and works great. When the unit starts beeping and flashing, I know that a front is nearby and likely to roll in soon. I usually get about 30 minutes of warning—enough time to tie down whatever needs tying down. I've never gotten a false alarm. If a storm is moving tangently to your location and just happens to pass within its 25-mile range, then you may indeed get an alarm with blue skies overhead. That's the whole point; you would never suspect a storm's nearby in that scenario. So why four stars instead of five? It goes through batteries quite a bit faster than your average weather sensor. Perhaps 3 to 6 months. Would be nice if they lasted a year. What batteries am I using? Panasonic Eneloops.

These Things Are Cool
Confirmed. It really does detect lightning. Not perfectly, of course, but enough to alert significant proximity starting with about a 25 mile radius. Furthest one detected so far is about 22 miles away (according to counting seconds while waiting for thunder). There's also a companion display for this ... Model 06047 ... Turns out the sensor is not just an independent lightning detector, it's also a Humidity-Temp sensor replacement for an entire lightning & rain themed weather station. Cool, eh? Radio Interference Issues: You really do need to pay attention to the interference indicator. Not just for first-time installation, but afterwards as well. In todays modern world with everything going wireless and things causing electrical noise, it's nearly impossible to find an absolute radio silent place to put this detector. The main thing is you want the most interference-free zone you can find for this detector's new home. Indoor uses is a no brainer and you can pretty much figure out what the interference source is and make relocation adjustments. Outdoor uses is another can of worms. You might need to do a lot of experimenting for a week or two while finding an official location for it, and even then you might still pickup some light occasional radio interference that's very infrequent, but acceptable.

works well
Was painless to set up on Acurite Hub. Do not put in full sun. Find a shady place or temp will be off buy a lot. Very senseative to electric things. A cell phone or wifi will set it off. Even a cordless drill driving a screw made a strike. After a found a place out out the sun outside and away from anything that would cause any interference it works very well. I knew going in a would have to find a place it would work. I am pleased with it.

Seems to work great!
I live in Costa Rica and we've recently entered the rainy season which = many lightning storms. The device seems to work fine, signaling detection on strikes we don't see (detection up to 40 miles). It has registered 100s of strikes. During our dry season when it does not rain at all (Dec to April) the device did not register any strikes at all, so I'm assuming that means it's functioning correctly.
