La pialla Big Horn da 6-1/4 pollici è completamente regolabile, con un angolo della lama basso per la pianificazione della grana fine e del legno difficile. Below average plane, but works

This plane is “ok” for someone’s first plane. The blade sharpens-up nicely, but the fit-and-finish are not so great. It is about like you’d expect from a tool made in India. Very much like a “Pakistani knife” - sharpens but crude and rough finish.

Big Horn Block Plane Review

Surprisingly (for the price) comfortable. Good weight and seems to be a robust casting. Both the sole and the iron needed to be tuned up but no more than normal. I would absolutely consider another Big Horn Plane.

Is "Contractor Grade" short for non-functional?

I ordered this plane hoping to get a handy, adjustable tool that I could rely on. I even assumed I would probably need to put some work into sharpening the blade and finishing the sole because nothing comes ready to use anymore. Unfortunately, this plane did not even match my worst expectations, because those all assumed I would have a working plane after some effort. However, this plane is non-function and un-fixable. The Blade cap eyelet is visibly deformed on one side and the Blade cap screw is off-center within the plane body. These two defects mean when assembled, the blade cap is hard against the left side of plane body leaving an 1/8 inch space on the right. Note for all left-right descriptions, I'm referencing from the back of the plane, as if you were holding it for use. The cut angle adjustment lever has limited range to the left, but swings far to the right. When the cut lever is adjusted full-left, it almost, but not quite, squares the blade in the body. There is plenty of range to angle the blade right. So at best you could almost get a square cut. If you were looking for a plane with an un-escapeable right bias this is the plane for you. When the blade is fully retracted, it sits proud by at least 1/16 inch. This plane can give paper-thin curls as long as your paper is 1/16 inch thick and your definition of 'curls' is synonymous with splinters or shards. The blade itself cannot retract further because it is hard-against cap-screw post in the bed of the plane. This might be due to the incorrect machining of the bed itself which is visibly uneven, and perhaps too deep overall. The depth could explain why a fully retracted blade is ready for a 1/16 inch tear through your work. The uneven machining of the bed also angles the blade out of plane with the sole by several degrees, so no cuts are parallel to anything the plane sole touches. I wanted a block plane that would allow me to control my cuts and this looked good. I guess technically I can control my cuts as long as they are 1/16 inch deep or greater, angled right to far-right and each uniquely angled to every other one produced by this 'plane'. It is a version of control remarkably distant from my expectations. Oh, and the blade is horribly dull and needs a bunch of honing and the sole was 'finished' on 30 - 60 grit and a good deal of sanding is needed to bring it to a reasonable finish, but I'm so humbled by the other defects I feel expecting a mostly sharp blade and reasonably smooth sole to be outrageously indulgent. Anyhow, this is getting returned.

A value even with defects.

The fore-sole adjustable mouth has fairly ominous flaws in the dovetail slide, and the wedge doesn't fit straight at all. However, once I sharpened the blade and tucked some tiny copper shims in, it works beautifully! Tackles end-grain like a champ!

Machining and fit is horrible. Will take hours of fine sanding and tinkering to make it work.

Good block plane

For the money, it's hard to beat. Fairly EZ adjustment, definitely needed tuning out of the box but overall, I'm satisfied with this plane

Boa ferramenta

Pelo preço de 176 reais, valeu muito a pena. Só lavei pra retirar a graxa que recobre toda a plaina e montei. Ainda pretendo desmontar e regularizar o esquadro, que nem conferi ainda. Corta bem.
