4/5 would smooth again
It's a pretty good plane for a beginner like me who wants something to try practice on and get an idea of what to do (with the help of some YouTube videos) to it to make it run for stuff like sharpening the blade or flattening the bottom before doing that on an older plane. Build quality is alright, though one of the rear frog to base contact points is still covered with the lawyer looking stuff as opposed to the other three stubs that look like they've been machined flat and I swear the face of the frog of the one I got is so rough with machine marks that it could double as a rasp and I'm not sure if I should put in some time to evenly sand it down flat out if fear if ruining it. Chipbreaker is obviously stamped out with some gnarly burrs on the underside. Also got lucky with the rear handle, it wasn't wobbly. Hate the screw cap though, it makes a light grinding noise when I'm tightening it snug, but not right against the chipbreaker. The blade was pretty sharp through and did do an alright job when I tried it out on some softwood scraps. All in all, not that bad as a starter to practice on or straight up use if it's gonna be used occasionally, live in an area/place where it's hard to find old vintage plane (took me a hot month of constant searching to find one for super cheap) or if you're leery of the more premium $100+ planes, though it will obviously not perform as well as those, so don't expect the world from it.

This is a decent plane
I expected something decent and that's what I got. Good: Iron is good quality Sole is 99% flat right out of the box All parts operate well Bad: The frog and lateral adjustments are skewed to one side pretty severely. Which means you'll always have the lever pushed almost entirely in one direction. YMMV. I think the quality of this plane is random but it's a great investment if you aren't ready for a $100 plane. When you are I'd recommend looking at Taytools here on amazon. I bought their #5 jack plane and am very happy with its quality.

Not a smoothing plane
Fine plane, got it used for under $30. Very comparable to my Kobalt from Home Depot. Needs tuned up (sole flattening, blade sharpening/honing,, etc). This plane is NOT a traditional smoothing plane which has its blade set at around 50-60 degrees off the sole. The plane offered here as Amazon basics no. 4 is a standard jack plane with its blade set at 45 degrees. I did not need a new jack plane however, I needed a smoothing plane.

Great quality for sure
Take a few tries getting use to how it operates so I suggest practicing on some scraps 1st but great quality product for sure. The weight says a lot to me and the sharpness of the blade is no joke (seriously be careful).

Will work for teaching you about planes
If you are wanting to get a plane to work on and get to know how to set things up, then this is probably the plane for you.. Be prepared for a lot of work to tune the plane up correctly. The sole is not flattened, have spent about 3 hours so far, and there are still some areas that have just started to become level with the rest of the sole, which is not mirror polished The blade appears to be made of stainless steel, which is very hard to sharpen. The one I have is also bowed in the middle and to remove that took several hours using an oilstone Either the chip breaker of iron is not flat, they do not mate up together perfectly The frog needs some work, and does not seat flush on the blade Once tuned up this will make a good scrub plane

Impressive for the money.
I was expecting less, given the price, but received a very nice product. Parts are neatly finished and give an impression of quality.

Be aware of what you are buying
This plane could be a bargain -- as long as you are willing and knowledgeable enough to tune up the tool. Understand that virtually no plane works out of the box; tweeking and tuning is always needed to some degree. The pros: * The body is reasonably flat, though it will require work * The parts are better than the price point suggests * The frog is adjustable * All of the pieces are there to make a decent tool The cons: * The machining is rough, especially on the frog face, with mediocre fit and finish * Handles need additional shaping and refinishing * Chip breaker is not flat to the blade (fixable) * The "lever" cap is cheaply made out of some light mystery metal (replacement desirable) * Adjustment adequate but not smooth * Concave base, high on both sides, needs flattening * Mouth chipped & not square with sharp edges (fixable) * Complete disassembly, finishing, flattening, and tuning required * Made in China Summary A good candidate for a scrub plane, but needs lots of TLC as a smoother. Blade quality is unknown and may need replacement if used as a smoother. If you are willing to work on it before use, it could be a good buy.

Lousy Snoother, Fantastic Scrub Plane
After looking at this thing on Amazon for over a year, my curiosity got the better of my common sense. I couldn't imagine a plane from Amazon basics being good for anything besides planing the door or maybe construction lumber. And I was correct. Out of the box, the thing is trash. The iron is thin as is the breaker. Nothing is flat (luckily the steel is also garbage and easy to flatten and sharpen, which is good, because I will be doing that a lot). Anyway, if you are reading this, I am sure you have about the same expectations that I had. And you would be right. HOWEVER. I converted the thing into a scrub plane and I am super happy with it. All of the things that make it worthless as a smoother, are actually assets as a scrub, in my opinion. Was easy to flatten and camber the iron and its super easy to sharpen by hand on stones. I filed open the mouth and set the frog back for more width. The thing hogs out material like a champ! I would like a thicker blade/breaker combo as there is a decent amount of chatter, but for $40 bucks, it does what it needs to do.

Wood plainer review
The product is worth Rs.1099 but it's costing Rs.2099 and the product i received is used one, there is saw dust on the blade and inner side of the planner

Looks exactly like the pic - does the job
This is a really solid, heavy tool. Bought specifically to plane the bottom of a solid wood fire-door, it did the job perfectly. I can't comment on longevity of the blade - I have no idea when I will use it again

Extremely Poor Quality
This is an extremely poor quality product. The handle has mould growing on it & is fiddly. The adjustment lever is loose & doesn’t make any change to the cutting angle at all. The powder coating is chipping off & the lettering on the casting is not visible. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY!
