These aluminum bench dogs fit in the 3/4inch holes perfectly. The side spring holds them firmly in place. The spring is a little stiff at first but loosens up with use. They aren’t the most beautiful bench dogs out there but they work fine and the aluminum will not mar your hardwood. Very good value.

They work
If you find yourself in need of bench dogs that work very well in 3/4 holes, I would highly recommend these. They aren't cheap, but I've found that just about anything that actually "works" connected to woodworking that "cheap" has a price that you pay, particularly over the long haul. Positives include, actually does what they are supposed to do fit in the hole, hold what you are trying to work on in place, come out of the hole when no longer needed with minimal effort and last over a period of years. (The last of these will have to take a while my oldest ones are just about a year old) I would also mention that I started with two and now have 10. (Purchased 2-4 at a time as my needs increased) This should give probably a greater hint of my satisfaction that anything I could write.

Low cost bench dogs Vs high cost Bench "pups"..
$11 for two Big Horn, aluminium bench dogs Vs close to $30 for one Brass Veritas "Pup". They are of the same size, design and function. They both work well. The dogs are made of aluminium that has been anodised. This improves the appearence and makes them less effected by corrosion and hardens the surface. My preference would be for raw aluminium which is softer on tool edges. Brass is atracctive to anyone who enjoys nice tools but how much do you spend on "pretty". To equip a basic vise requires 4 dogs/pups, that is $22 vs $120 for the same function. If you want to piss away $98 I could suggest several brands of 18 year old single malt scotch.

Big Horn Aluminum Bench Dogs
I have a traditional woodworking bench made of 4 inch thick oak. These aluminum bench dogs fit snugly into the 3/4 holes drilled into the bench. They are about 2 1/2 inches long and are solid aluminum and very sturdy. The spring on the side ensures that they do not slip deeper into the holes yet are easy to pull out of the bench. Used in combination with the dog on the vice, one dog will hold a piece of lumber in place for sanding, planing, etc. I think they are superior to square bench dogs because it is much easier to drill a hole than to chisel out a square one. The flattened edge is slightly beveled which increases the grip on the lumber. While not as pretty as some of the brass dogs, these are strong utilitarian tools that should last for years. LK

These are some of the most reasonably priced bench dogs you'll find. And they perform as well as their more expensive brethren. I first heard about these from a former author at Popular Woodworking magazine. If you're looking for a good pair of bench dogs at a great price you just can't beat these. They are aluminum by the way. I know the higher priced ones are made of brass. But just because they shine better than these do doesn't make them any better.

Good overall quality and a snug fit
Just received delivery and tried it on my workbench. These work nicely, tight fit but comfortable to adjust, smooth movement urwards and downwards. I tried it with soft woods, not hard ones. So it's too early to judge on product's sturdiness or lifetime but so far seems to be a very good product for the price.

Nice
Just had my first opportunity to try these out. They are aluminum, not brass, and therefore don't have the old-school class of brass bench dogs. They are about half the length of my brass dogs, but only cost about half as much. They seem to be a little harder to push down into the hoke in the benchtop, but both the dogs and the top are new. I expect these to last forever and work well.

Best dogs ever
These are amazing. I was using dogs from an old black and decker workmate before and I decided to try these. They are infinitely better! You can adjust the height quickly and easily for holding thin or thick stock. They sit perfect in a 3/4" hole and the faces are angled slightly down which makes a huge difference and holds your stock much better. If you are at all unsatisfied with your current bench dogs, I would not hesitate to try these

Very MEH - Priced very similar to Veritas but much lower quality
They are very simple so no doubt they get the job done, that being said I was quite surprised at how bad they look (mostly the quality of how the spring wire is installed) and the overall quality of the machining is on the rough side as well. Definitely looks more like harbour freight/princess auto quality, I've got the same type of bench dog from Lee Valley (Veritas) and the difference is night and day with very little price difference between them.

Excelente material muy buen terminado, el pasador lateral ayuda a fijar firmemente en los orificios de 3/4". Los recomiendo ampliamente.
