Reliable and Efficient - Amazon Basics 8-Sheet Cross Cut Paper Shredder
The Amazon Basics 8-Sheet Cross Cut Paper Shredder and Credit Card Shredder with 4.1 Gallon Bin has proven to be a reliable and efficient solution for my document disposal needs. With its compact design, robust shredding capabilities, and easy-to-use functionality, this shredder has become an essential addition to my home office. While it excels in performance and durability, it should be noted that the product can be slightly loud. Allow me to share my overall experience and impressions of this shredder. First and foremost, it offers efficient and secure document destruction. Its cross-cutting technology ensures that sensitive information is thoroughly shredded, providing peace of mind when disposing of confidential documents or credit cards. With the ability to shred up to 8 sheets of paper at a time, this shredder effortlessly handles the demands of everyday shredding tasks. The 4.1-gallon bin capacity is sufficient for personal or small office use, reducing the frequency of emptying the bin. The clear window on the front of the bin allows for easy monitoring of the shredder's fill level, ensuring timely disposal of shredded materials. The compact size of the shredder makes it suitable for limited office space or home office setups, taking up minimal space on a desk or in a storage area. The Amazon Basics shredder is designed with user convenience in mind. It features a simple control panel with clearly labeled buttons for easy operation. The auto-start and manual reverse functions help to prevent paper jams, ensuring a smooth shredding process. The automatic shut-off feature activates when the shredder exceeds its maximum run time, protecting the motor from overheating and prolonging its lifespan. While the shredder performs admirably in terms of functionality and reliability, it is important to note that it can be slightly loud during operation. The noise level is somewhat noticeable, especially when shredding larger stacks of paper. However, considering the affordable price point and the shredder's overall performance, this slight inconvenience can be overlooked for most users. In terms of durability, the Amazon Basics shredder demonstrates a sturdy build. It handles regular use without showing signs of strain or diminished performance. The solid construction instills confidence in the shredder's long-term reliability and ensures it can withstand the rigors of daily shredding tasks. In conclusion, the Amazon Basics 8-Sheet Cross Cut Paper Shredder and Credit Card Shredder with 4.1 Gallon Bin offers a reliable and efficient solution for document disposal needs. Its robust shredding capabilities, user-friendly functionality, and compact design make it an excellent choice for personal or small office use. While the product can be slightly loud during operation, its overall performance and durability outweigh this minor drawback. If you're in need of a dependable shredder that delivers on security and convenience, the Amazon Basics shredder is a solid investment. Say goodbye to worries about sensitive information and embrace a more organized and secure approach to document disposal with this reliable shredding solution.

What can I say? Excellent overall!
This is exactly what I was looking for and even bought two more as gifts. I have tons of important papers that needed to be shredded and this did the trick. It isn't super noisy, I don't have to lift a heavy lid like I had to on my old shredder, I simply just pull out a "drawer" I like that I can see how full it is. I like the safety features of s light coming on and warning if it's overheated (which I haven't had to use yet) A light comes on to let me know when it's full and a light comes on to tell me when the door isn't closed all the way. It has wheels and for me that is wonderful. I can roll when needed. If I'm cleaning the shredded papers or simply moving for another reason is very easy. It holds a lot, So I don't have to empty it as often. I would recommend a hand-held vacuum or vac with a hose to reach the hard-to-get-to-small pieces of shredded papers that will inevitably get some places you don't want them to be.

Impressed with the thought and engineering that went into the design
I bought this after the shredder I purchased years ago from a well-known brick and mortar store started making weird sounds and wasn’t completely shredding documents, especially if more than one sheet was being shredded. So far, I’m pleased with this shredder. Whereas the old shredder had an advertised six sheet capacity, this is advertised as being eight sheets. The old shredder had a “flapper” panel on the bottom that shut off the shredder when the bin was full, but that eventually broke. This shredder doesn’t have that and instead seems to rely on the volume of paper in the bin to lift the shredder off of the bin, tripping a shut-off switch. Personally, I like this better since there is one less plastic piece to break. The manual says it has a maximum three minute run time before the over-heat protection activates, but I’ve run several minutes beyond that (although not at the 8 sheet maximum feed rate) without the over-heat protection being activated, so don’t let the stated three minute run time limit dissuade you. The top of the shredder has a handhold so that you can lift it off the bin with one hand (my old shredder had “wings” on each side, so you needed two hands), and without the “flapper” on the bottom you can set it straight down on a surface; you don’t need to turn it over. It is a cross-cut shredder, although the shredded pieces are about ¼” x 1-3/4” long. If you need something shredded finer than this, you need to look elsewhere. About the only negative I’ve identified thus far is that it is a bit harder to feed than my old shredder. The feed slot is somewhat obstructed by the silver piece/handhold, whereas the feed slot on my old shredder was completely open. On the plus side, the somewhat obstructed opening helps keep you from exceeding the maximum sheet limit, which I think was the main contributor to the failure of my old shredder. All and all, I think this is a good shredder for the price, and I like the thought and engineering that seems to have gone into its design.

Quiet & Efficient, No Jams So Far
This shredder is really for home office use due to its small size. I bought this one as reviews said it was easy to clear if it jammed. To this point I’ve experienced no jams, paper feeds smoothly through the unit and is relatively quiet. The reverse feature works well which should help if I get a paper jam. I use lubricating sheets every couple of weeks if I’m shredding a lot to keep it in good shape. I found I could use bags with the unit as with other brands. It means using lightweight plastic bags & I choose ones that are almost clear so I can see the shreds. The shredding head is quite heavy so I place it atop a sturdy wastepaper basket when changing bags. If this unit had a larger collection container and wheels I would be thrilled with it, as I have to empty it more often than I'd like and it's difficult to maneuver forward and back under my desk. Otherwise, it’s been terrific. I would recommend it.

Good quality, no complaints after few months' use
{OVERHEATING} I have used this several times now, feeding in 1 piece of plastic/ thick paper at a time, or up to 4 pieces of regular paper together, and have never experienced any overheating. It was also able to shred a rectangular piece of thin plastic with no problems (cut-out of confidential details from online shopping delivery bag) I have not tried feeding in 8 sheets at once or more than one thick sheet at once and probably will not attempt this - I do not believe in challenging my tools unnecessarily. {SETTINGS} It comes in two pieces, the bin (bottom) and the shredding component (top). You put them together and plug it in, there's a reverse (REV), auto (AUTO) and off (OFF) setting. The auto setting will start running as it senses sheets being fed in, if you have uneven thickness or jagged edge materials you have to fold a crisp edge and feed that end in or it will not be able to detect the presence of the item. {LINING THE BIN} I have used this with a plastic grocery store bag to line the bin with no problems. The blades do not reach the circumference of the bin so there is no snagging issues. The bin is taller than most grocery store bags so there will be empty space at the bottom. In my experience some shredders can get pieces of paper stuck at the two farthest ends of the feed intake, I do not know if this machine has that issue but looking at the design I suspect it would, perhaps this is why so many people complain of it overheating (paper stuck in blades on either end, causing more resistance for the motor to overcome). Because of this, I avoid feeding a full 8.5 inch edge into this machine, instead I fold all 8.5 inch and greater edges in half or rip the item in half and feed the smaller halves.

BEAST MODE
Our 50$ Walmart shredder died about a month ago. She lived a good life, but the papers where piling up and we needed to find a new family shredder. We searched walmart, we searched staples. But for some reason couldn't find our forever shredder... finally the papers where at an unbearable state and it happened to be prime day, so I bit the bullet and ordered this beauty. From The moment I watched my friendly puralator man struggle to carry the box to my door, I knew I was in for a special treat. As I unbox our new family addition I was surprised at the sheer power she commanded. 15sheet cross cut... I mean, I'll follow the rules. But it's an understatement. Anyways. We couldn't be happier with sharky the shredder. The papers are gone.

Trituradora básica para pequeña oficina
The media could not be loaded.

Three excellent but not five star perfect
I ordered this because it is basically the same size and functionality of one that we needed to replace. I'm not disappointed - but there are some PROS and CONS. PROS - It is fairly light and quieter than our old shredder. (but the quietness may be attributed to the motor since the motor in our old shredder slowly came grinding to a halt) - The AmazonBasic shredder is priced well. CONS - Our old shredder had a small window in the basket so that you didn't have to lift up the motor to see how full it was.The basket on the AmazonBasic is well, simply basic. - I'm not so sure I would want to force up to 6 sheets into this thing - Keeping at two sheets is probably going to be the difference between using this thing for awhile and listening to the motor grind to a halt. - Use scissors for credit cards

Quality not quite there yet
The 6-sheet Cross-cut shredder will work in a pinch but not quite all I was expecting. As the quality is not quite to the level I hoped for, I will baby the unit and use it to shred 1 piece of paper at a time; I wouldn't try for the 6 pieces at a time it claims it can handle. I am also not intending to shred any credit cards as I think it would damage the cutting surface too quickly. I also leave the switch in position and instead unplug the unit both before emptying and after use. I've listed the pros and cons below with some other details/specifications after that: PROS: --Has electrical certification markings on the unit (ETL) certifying conformance to UL Std 60950-1 and CSA Std C22.2 No. 60950-1 --Cord length is decent at 5'. --Handles shorter cash register receipts and remittance stubs well (3-1/2” x 8-1/2”) --Quality Control sticker on unit. --Both sensors seem to work well. CONS: --The unit does not always shred to a uniform size. On the first few pages I shredded (1 at a time) the results were mixed as can be seen in the pictures. Some pieces are almost full length strips. The teeth don't necessarily cut but more tear the strips horizontally. --The main switch feels like low quality and I think it would break with repeated use. I have seen other reviews of units where the unit is found to be running unattended. With this in mind, I would rather leave the switch in the on position and unplug the unit. --The cutting teeth do not look like they would fare well with shredding credit cards. --The paper bin is made from flexible plastic and moves quite a lot if you press gently on it. It is not smooth but warped around all the surfaces. When the unit is shredding the bin wobbles when on a smooth, flat floor. --Scuff marks were on the machine when opened. --The bin fills up much faster than you anticipate as the paper piles directly below the cutting teeth and does not actually distribute itself evenly through the bin. --Even with careful orientation of the paper, the shredder still will occasionally feed it in crooked towards on side or the other. This causes the paper not to shred properly on the edges and could jam the machine. OTHER INFO: --Cord has a 2 prong polarized plug and is approximately 5' in length. --Bin approximate dimensions: 12” x 7” x 12.5” tall. --With the top installed you require an area that can accommodate at least 15” in height. --Paper slot is just wide enough for letter-size paper to be inserted width-wise (portrait). --To shred 1 piece of letter-size paper (8-1/2” x 11”) takes about 3-4 seconds. --The shredder runs for an extra 2 seconds after the paper clears the sensor to try to prevent paper jams. Overall, I have mixed feelings about this shredder. For the most part it will do what I need it to do for very light use. I will update this review if I encounter any issues in the future. I really hope you find this review was helpful to you!!
