Smaller than regular size shredder.

I just recently used the shredder. So far l like it. It shreds smoothly. Does make noise when shredding but most of them do. I am happy with the purchase so far. Hope it holds up for years. After l use it several more times l will make another review.

Home office works well

Works well for home office to shred sensitive documents and mail. CDs are a little hard to pass through however shreds credit cards no problem. Nice to have adjustable bars to fit over larger trash can. Did overheat once when shredding about 50-60 pages in a row.

Perfect shredder for beginners

This is my first shredder I got as we do not have a lot of stuff to shred. You can use upto 8 standard pages together. More than 8 might not work properly. It shreds cards too.

Not as good as the old version of this same unit

I have purchsed the identical unit back in 2015, looks exactly the same. Same amazon symbol, same capacity and size, buttons are all in the same place, 8 SHEET CAPACITY.... The old was stronger, didn't jam, handled more like 10-11 sheets, and it still does. It outperforms this newer version that is quieter and has a weaker motor... It struggles so much to shred 8 pages that its best to more no more than 5 sheets. The old version can shred everything!! post cards combined with papers, CDs and credit cards are a breeze, and you can put even more than 8 sheets no problem. The new one is using much less capable motor and less quality build. Very disappointed. Looking to return this one, the old one still works amazing, but need a second one for my other office. NO, I won't settle for this infirior one;l will get another brand if I have to and more.

2nd one that stopped working

These cut great, but this is the 2nd one I've bought within 2 years. They should last longer than that.

Nice Shredder

Trashcan portion of paper shredder was completely broken upon arrival.

I received the 8 page Amazon Basics shredder today. Upon opening the package I discovered that the trashcan portion of the item, where the shredded paper collects, was completely broken from top to bottom on one side. The shredder portion of the item appeared undamaged and worked appropriately when I tried using it. I felt that the shredder was quiet and powerful enough to do the job. I didn't try shredding 8 pages, but I did shred 5 at a time and they were dealt with without a problem. I'm not going to speculate on how long this shredder might last since in our household it will not get used very much, not even weekly. I deducted one star from the overall rating due to the broken trashcan.

Does the job but overheats easily

Works great but does overheat pretty quick. Needs a minimum of 15-30 minutes to cook down before use again. Does shred cards very easily.

Good for the price

For the price, this is a worth while purchase. It's very important to abide by the usage warning, ie it needs to rest after a few minutes of continuous use. I shredded loads of documents without issue but ensured the instructions were followed. One thing of note is the unit may shut down if jammed and/or it gets over heated. Just let it completely cool down and it should start working without issue. A few times I had to manually remove jammed paper even though I never put more than the limit of eight sheets into the unit. When that happens, I'd recommend you pull the shreds directly up and out of the unit vs on any angle. The reverse shred function doesn't usually work when there's a paper a jam. I find when I do get a paper jam, it isbecause the papers being shredded fold during the shredding process which doubles the amount of paper being shredded so its best to factor that in when deciding how many sheets to shred. Even though the machine can technically shred eight sheets at once, I would recommend only using 4-6 at one time. You ultimately save time by doing so since it takes time to unjam the shredder and its a bit annoying having to do it frequently.

Perfect replacement!

My paper shredder died on me after 3 months and I needed a replacement that I wasn't going to be disappointed with. I was searching for one and ended up seeing this one. I've bought products from AmazonBasics before and never had any issues with them. Rather, I've always been surprised by their quality and performance. This shredder shreds more paper at one time than my previous one, which is a big positive for me. The shredder sits on top of the bucket so it's easy to remove it and clear the bucket. It also shreds CDs and credit cards very easily. It's also much safer than my other shredder since the paper feeder is slim that you're fingers won't get pulled in. I bought this 2 years ago and it's still working for me :).

It sounds like the paper just glides through

I had a shredder from Walmart before this one. The Walmart shredder was always getting paper stuck in it and jamming up. Now I have this one and I am very impressed. It sounds like the paper just glides through. It has not jammed up on me once.

Great shredder but falsely advertised.

I would have given this shredder 5 stars, however, the advertisement of features was completely false. There is a whole section on how this shredder does different sized shreds ie. ribbons, confetti, etc. IT DOES NOT HAVE THIS FEATURE. It only does ribbons. For us it didn't matter much since it was for home use, however, that was a selling feature when we bought it so I was pretty disappointed. Otherwise works great.

Works well and good price

Amazon.ca warns that it would take 4 days to deliver this "Prime" item, and it did. I wish it could be faster because my old one broke and my ready-to-be-shredded papers are cluttering my space. This machine shreds papers into spaghetti cuts instead of cross-cuts. I used to have a cross-cut shredder, and as said, it broke. Unless you have the need for disposal of ultimate secrets, spaghetti shred is good enough. Cross-cuts can be messy because the shredded pieces are small. When you dispose it, it flies everywhere and you end up having to vacuum the general areas. However, the small size of cross-cuts has an advantage that the shreds sit compactly in the bin and it takes longer to fill up the bin. Spaghetti shreds are much easier to handle due to their long strands but it takes up more room and fills up the bin fast. BTW, I am putting the shredder on top of a larger bin so it take longer to fill the bin. Hope this helps.
