If you think it’s defective, you don’t understand how it works
I have been happily using these Woods photosensor timers for years. I stopped using mechanical timers because they all seem make annoying winding noises. This black and orange model is much better quality than the older all black bell-shaped models. It seems some people don’t understand how these work: if you’re using the photosensor/timer function, it will turn on when it senses darkness, then turn off when the timer runs out for your chosen setting OR when it senses light. So if you have the sensor facing the light you plugged into the timer, it will turn itself off, then turn back on when it’s dark, and so on. This is why people think it’s defective and flickering. I typically place these on window sills, and they consistently work as intended with no need for adjustments. If you put blinds or curtains over it on the window sill, it flawlessly turns on when it gets dark out, but will stay on no matter how many lights are on in the house (due to being shielded by the blinds/curtains). I recently tried the amazon recommendation for this type of timer when I couldn’t find any Woods ones for sale. Not only is there a notable lack of quality with the Amazon version, it doesn’t turn off when it senses light. This inevitably leads to it operating irrationally (staying committed to “on mode” regardless of actual availability of light messes up its timer schedule). I’m very happy to see these Woods timers for sale again!

Trusted Brand
I have several other Woods Products and they are top quality. I wanted a dusk to dawn timer for my electric outdoor bug wacker. Naturally the top brands do not have a dusk to dawn option. 9 read the reviews of the cheaper brands and they are not water proof. I looked to buy it locally but there are none available. Amazon is always a go to option for these seasonal items that quickly go out of stock in the local stores. All I did to install was set the timer option, plug it in and go. Works as described.

So Far, Pretty Good
Finally a device designed with right-angle "flat" plugs in mind. Others of this type (that don't default to "off" after a power outage) seem to have inset/reverse orientation outlets, that stop such plugs from fully seating. This fits the bill, even if it is a little extra light-sensitive and you can't put it right under a bright light. Now if only the device itself came in a 'straight' plug design, given that with some outdoor enclosures a right-angle plug can be a tight fit and obstruct the second outlet.

Eh. Just okay
I'll say this, some of my issue with this item is based on my lighting setup. I have several christmas lights plugged into this and set it to turn on at dusk and off at sunrise, but when they turn on they generate enough light that if confuses the sensor into thinking its daytime so it shuts off. Then, thinking its now night time, it turns the lights back on. So my christmas lights are repeatedly turning on and off every 2 seconds on that setting. I ended up plugging them into a smart outlet and leaving it in on the setting and using the smart outlet to control when they turn on and off. So now I'm thinking everything is all good, right? Nope. Was not home over the weekend and noticed my smart plug said it "couldnt connect". Came home and the breaker had tripped from the outlet. I've never had that problem with any of the other smart plugs so my suspicion is its this plug in the smart outlet that created the issue. Granted I've got several strings of LED lights plugged into each other and then this plug, but they all say they can handle up to 5 strings connected to each other and I've only hooked 3 or 4 to each other.

It works!
Works as it should. Tip! Turn it to the dusk/ dawn setting or any of the hour settings. It will turn your plant light on. Leave it alone. It will sense when the sun goes down the next day and run on your choice of setting. (It delayed by 15m between dusk vs hour setting times.) Excellent outdoor timer for the price and functionality.

Works great
Very impressed with this timer, worked the very first day I plugged it in early December, and I have not had to touch it since. The lights go on and shut off like clockwork. Snowfall has not affected it either, though it is plugged in vertically and not resting on anything.

Two units appear defective
I’ve always used Woods outdoor timers. But I recently purchased one for my patio lights and as soon it turns dusk the lights flash on and off (it’s totally dark at this point) until we unplug the timer. We just returned one and purchased another and it’s doing the same thing. The patio lights work fine until plugged into the timer. In reading the reviews, I’m not the only customer having this issue. This second unit will also be going back.
