What the what???
I've been trying for 3 weeks to get this timer to go off at 4:30 PM. My target date is 2 years away, but I've been taking notes, setting & resetting the clock and the target date for different dates & times to figure it out. Not being able to set the time on the target date is a problem. I don't want to be awakened at midnight of the day I choose. - thank you very much! I've been using a one or two day advance target date to experiment with. I've added 16.5 hours, I've backed it up 16.5 hours (on the clock), but I'm just confusing myself. It may take me 2 years of experimentation to get it right. I like that the Sper Scientific 810017 Project Timer has the capacity to time up to 8 years. The alarm is a little too quiet for me, but considering I may have mistakenly set it for the dead of night, that's okay. Getting this thing to go off at 4:30 PM on ANY day has become an obsession. It's really just a toy - when my two years are up, I'LL KNOW IT! 2 month update: The easiest solution that I've found to set the target date to alarm at the TIME you desire follows: -Set the current date & current time on the Sper Event Timer CLOCK. -Set your event date on the Sper Event Timer TARGET date. -At the specific current TIME of day you want the alarm to sound on your target date, RESET the current time to 12:01 AM. -Done. Good Luck!

Can't set hours & minutes for target event!
I'll second (or third, or fourth or whatever) what everyone says about the instructions: they're truly awful. But big deal: it isn't that hard to figure out. Just change the mode until you're looking at your target or current time, press reset & up or down buttons until everything's set. And it's small, but I count that as a sort of positive. While the unit may be small, the numbers are big & very easy to read. The only problem I have with it is that it doesn't seem to allow you to set the actual *time* of your target event. You can set year, month & day but it just defaults to midnight without giving you a chance to set the hours & minutes. It's easy to work around it: just adjust the "real" time backward however many hours you need to. My time is 4:30 pm, so just set the time back 16:30 hours. This makes the "clock" pretty useless, but since I'm surrounded by clocks & will probably never touch the thing except to check how many days I have until I'm free of this project, it isn't a huge deal for me. But be aware! And if anyone has figured out how to find the target time hours & minutes despite the instructions, please enlighten the rest of us!

OUTSTANDING customer service!
I bought this little gizmo as a gift for my brother's birthday, so when it arrived I didn't look inside the box but just wrapped it up. When he finally opened his gift, it was the wrong item - a digital thermometer with humidity indicator. I promptly emailed the seller and within the hour I had a response - it seems the (very long) part numbers for the item I received and the item I ordered were extremely close, hence the mix-up. Terrie at Sper Scientific was more than just accommodating, she was the nicest person I've ever had the pleasure of communicating with! After a short series of emails, I felt like I had made a new friend! Instead of having to incur the cost of sending back the item we received in error, she said to keep it. She shipped the correct item the same day and my brother received it two days later. He loves both the gadgets and has them prominently displayed in his home. I just cannot give enough praise to Terrie and her fabulously mad customer service skills - she truly is an angel! If she doesn't own the company, she will someday. =)

Do not like the field where you're meant to put some label ...
Gets the job done. Do not like the field where you're meant to put some label into, would be nicer without it. Somewhat difficult to enter the target time because you can not enter the hour, so you need to trick around with your current time if you want to let's say put the end time to 12 PM, Jan 20, 2021. You do not want to use this product if you need to enter non-midnight target times more often than rarely. Cost $21 when i bought it, so the price is right.

I liked it... while it worked.
The good: The unit is easy to understand and program. Within a few minutes of opening the package, I had it set up for a countdown of the days until my retirement. The display is clear and otherwise easy to read. Each of the modes is useful in a different way. I like the window allowing me to customize it and show the goal of my countdown. The bad: Despite my goal being over 2000 days away, the unit only runs for a few days before an alarm sounds and it resets to default. The first couple of times it did this, I thought perhaps the provided battery was just bad. I put a brand new battery in it and reprogrammed it, expecting no repeats. Unfortunately, the behavior continued and the unit has never worked for more than a few days at a time. Summary: If this unit worked for more than a few days at a time, I'd be very happy with it. Unfortunately, I allowed the return window to lapse - my fault - so it's worthless. I could just have one bad unit out of a thousand good ones, so I'd recommend to anyone purchasing one to set it up right away and if you run into any trouble, return it immediately.

Retirement Gift
I bought this as a gift for a friend who had announced her retirement date. As other reviewers have stated, the instructions are horrific. But, once I figured out what they were trying to convey, it seemed to work well. She loved the idea of it, even posting rave reviews and photos on Facebook. it remains to be seen how long the battery lasts.

3-1/2 years and going strong!
I had this on pre-order since it was out of stock. It was worth the wait. Mine is silver in color and it has a slide out window so you can change the label for your countdown. I am using retirement right now but you can use this again and again for any important even you want to countdown to. I love that it's versatile and not just for one event. I love it! UPDATED review: 7/25/19 I have had this for over 3-1/2 years now with the same battery in it and it is still going strong. I am still waiting to retire 861 days left!
