Great little tool
Overall I am very happy with this tool. It was $39, so one can only expect so much, but I have been really putting it through it’s paces as I replace the floor in a 66 Mustang fastback for my neighbor. I have three other hand belt sanders. Two pneumatic and one BIG heavy Milwaukee that I converted to a 2 in. Wide belt. This tool fits perfectly into the mix. The Milwaukee takes two hands to hold as it is big and heavy, the two pneumatic ones are fantastic, but if you are using them for a long time your compressor can be running non stop for hours, as air tools are compact and powerful but not very efficient. This sander runs and runs using (1/8hp???) versus the 7hp my big compressor uses. It makes plenty of power (none of these small belt sanders are for heavy material removal, but this does a quite admirable job. My only concern is the cooling fan and vents are right under where I like to hold my hand, and it pretty much always smells a bit on the hot side, however after several hours use it shows no sign of slowing down. I am very happy with this purchase and will use the heck out of it.

I nicknamed my Wen 1/2" sander "the magic wand"
Four days ago I didn't even know there were 1/2" hand held belt sanders. Now it's indispensable to me. I bought it because I forgot to sand some boards before assembling them. There was no clearance for my other sanders, and this was a pretty inexpensive solution. I learned you need a light touch for just sanding wood with this thing. It was really aggressive in removing material. So I watched some you tube videos about this tool, then went around my garage and used it on everything I could find. I sharpened my dull, rusty tree limb pruner. Now the pruner works like new. Then I used it on all the blobs of dried wood glue and construction adhesive on the floor and workbenches. It worked like a charm. I even flattened off the nub of an old bolt that was sticking up from the floor. It's easy to control and it's pretty quiet. I bought some other belts to go with it, in N assortment of grades and with better abrasives than the included belts.

Pretty good even for a contractor
I don’t use a file sander often. Maybe once a year. I had to move quite a bit of wood and had it running for almost 6 hours out of an 8 hour day. It never overheated and the sanding strips stayed on track. I have mostly all high end tools but I’m not one to waste money. This might not be the tool for someone who uses it weekly, professionally, but it did a high end job for me for $30. Unbelievably great value here.

Time saver for sanding tight spots
I love the auto tracking and easy belt replacement. This tool saved me hours of sanding time. Belt caught a jagged edge and popped after 4 hours of use and probably would have lasted another 4 hours... No motor hanging off the side like the other sanders! I don't know why I waited so long to buy one, but I'm glad I chose the Wen...

Very decent tool for the price
Price is right. The sanding belts that come with it are garbage. I ordered some extra belts and they seem to do the trick. The adjustment for angles isnt as extreme as i thought, so you're still pretty limited. The only real con i can think of is this thing gets really hot after about 5 mins+ of hard sanding at speed 4 or above

Not bad! one flaw
when I loosen the knob to change angles the knob won’t retighten it seems the threads are too short. I have to use a vise grip to squeeze together the clamp to retighten.

Easy to use and made well. The extra sanding belts were nice to have.

Great for autobody finishing work
I'd wanted a finger sander for a while, but the options for electric ones (my compressor isn't big enough to properly run most air tools for a long time) seemed extremely limited. Decided to pick this one up as it seemed a step above the cheapo ebay ones, and I would say it was very well worth it. Exceedingly useful for weld bead cleanup in tight spots, as well as on highly-visible areas that need to be presentable where a angle grinder + flap disk could risk taking too much material off or putting heat into the panel. 100% worth the price, just be sure to pick up a bunch of belts as it goes through them quite fast. Not needing tools to swap belts is rather handy too.

Received a lemon.
The media could not be loaded. Tried it out the same day it was delivered and the brushes in the motor were bad (see starched video) That’s said, I started a return right away and requested a replacement unit. The new tool came the next afternoon in working order before I had the one I was returning in the mail. The unit works well, it only has a 2AMP motor so it will not handle big jobs IMHO, but is perfect for what I need it for. I do like that the belt pivots up and down for those hard to reach places.

Does not overheat
Many are saying the machine overheats, however, it only occurs when you cover the exhaust. I think the exhaust for the machine is not in the best location. Naturally, my hand went over the exhaust causing the machine to heat up very quickly. Unfortunately, to avoid doing this you almost have to hold the machine from the very bottom making it very awkward to use. Other than this the machine worked great and I used it for 4 hours straight and had zero issues.

I like it but can use an important improvement
Pros Came in fast with out any noticable defects, I will update after I use it for my home projects. Easy to use belt changing is a breeze Versitile to get in at different angles Variable speed makes this safe for delicate projects. Cons It overheats quite easy... so light duty with lots of brakes in between, but not going to judge too harsh for this price. Suggestions Improve the cooling fan design and you will have a winner!

1/2 in width of belt.
Am sandpaper removing dark varnish from 4 old oak chairs. My pad sander can do the larger areas but, does not work well between spindles and corners. This 1/2 in wide belt sander, which I found on amazon, does the trick. I will have to get into the very small corners by using hand sanding and metal scrappers but, that is much less work than hand sanding the intermediate areas. I found the slowest sanding speed on the 1/2 in belt sander works for my approach. Small surface imperfections give it the human, by hand quality, as opposed to the extruded machine look.
