Good solid unit
When sanding metal and wood, you can adjust your speed very nice. seems like I've had mine over a year and no problems. had to jury rig a dust catcher. I would buy again .

Like most others
Sander works well, this is 3rd sander I have owned. The dust bag is the absolute cheapest and most flimsy bag I have ever seen. Like most others, it broke and tore away, although that didn't matter since dust went right through it away. I purchased elastic top shop vac motor filer bag from HF, and used in place of dust bag. Works tremendously better, although the suction ob this machine is not good. Most dust comes straight out from under belt. However, any sander generates plenty of dust, so I can live with that. I have sanded approx 600 sq feet of hardwood floors with this. At one point it began to not start when pulling switch. Checked brushes, and so must dust had collected inside, it was blocking brush to motor contact. Cleaned out dust--solved the problem. On Genesis website, sent message inquiring about replacement brushes, 2 weeks so far, and no response. Belt breaking..solved by slowing speed to about 2/3 of maximum, made belt last much much longer. Cheapest belts from Amazon, and HF work as well as Diablo or any other brand of belts. Also take a short break every 15 minutes to let belt cool off. Hope I don't need warranty service since Genesis is so far ignored my brush inquiry, doubt they would response to warranty work either. Machine is good, no belt alignment problems, as that is usually only an issue on all machines when you move sander sideways perpendicular against belt rotation direction. UPDATE 6/1/17--still no response from Genesis on brush question, also called, no answers.

Spot on.
I needed a solid belt sander for one medium-sized project and several smaller occasional projects and didn't want to spend big money; but also needed a reliable sander with good power. After reading many reviews, the Genesis was one sander that consistently came up as above average. I just spent a long weekend sanding over 200 board feet of redwood, I am very impressed with the Genesis belt sander. It performed exactly as expected; never bogged down or overheated and provided excellent results. The belts were easy to change, the dust bag was a good size and didn't fall apart and power was good (after using this unit I would never go with anything less an 8 amp sander). Only 2 wishes- I wish I could see where the belt was a bit easier; and I wish the RPM adjustment went higher as I could have used faster sanding in some places. Comparing this $54 sander to a $169 Porter Cable- the Porter Cable is way better, but definitely not 3 times better. I can't think of a better budget belt sander than the Genesis.

Good for the price but be ready for dust
I have only used two belt sanders, this one and a high end 4 inch sander that I borrowed. As one might expect the high end sander was much superior but I was pleasantly surprised that this sander was not so inferior that I was disappointed. For the price and the fact that I don't often need such a sander, this one is definitely good for me. My first serous use was on the seat of an oak bench that I was making for my bedroom. I was making the bench using wood I had sliced from a log from a tree that had died on my property. The seat was composed of several pieces that I had glued together. There was a significant amount of sanding needed to correct unevenness between pieces and to level out the combined section. This sander did a great job. It took more time that it would have if I had had access to the one I previously had borrowed. But the end result was just as good. My one complaint is the dust bag. As I believe others have mentioned, it is not dust proof. It does catch some dust but a very large percentage goes right through. So if you buy one be prepared to use a dust mask or (what I did) have a fan poised to blow the dust away from you.

Great value and very durable
I bought mine in May of 2016 and last night it had a bearing go bad. That's 4 years of fairly heavy use by me - i build barn wood furniture as a side hustle. I contacted their customer service this morning explaining what I thought was wrong and included a short video, they responded to me within an hour and a half confirming that I would need a replacement. Thumbs up on the quick response. I would give this 4 1/2 stars if it were an option. The only other issue I had was the drive belt broke earlier this year. I was able to replace it for about $10. I just ordered a replacement that will be here early next week and if I get 4 more years use out of that one, it will again be worth the $60.

Great value but has quirks.
First, the PROS....easy to install belts and they stay aligned. Adjustable handle is nice. Price for a 3x21 model is sweet. Now the CONS....the weasel electrical cord is poorly placed. Genesis could have given it a kick stand on the back to prevent the belt from sucking it up. Trust me. They could have made the cord stiffer to allow it to move with the direction of the sander. I taped a metal clothes hanger to mine to it would move away from the sander. The dust bag and ventilation is very poor. Filled up first time and jammed after that...so after a short period of use, I blow it out with my wet vac. So wear a mask and ditch the bag. BTW, not sure if this model has an overheat sensor but the power will regulate if overheats...at least mine does. The small guard on the front of the sander could have been longer to act as a real guard and should be easy to flip up if you need to. It does neither. Lastly, toss the 16 gauge orange extension cord that you buy at home depot for $10 for a mile of it. This sander draws power and melted my cord. Step up to the Husky 14 gauge (red) to do the job.

Belt can slip.????
The belt drive wheel is not as wide as the belt so if you put pressure on the sander, the sand belt will slip and the inside will get polished and eventually become unusable. An efficient 6 amp motor can be stronger than an inefficient 8 amp, so be careful! This one seems to be good. Just as noisy as all the rest.

Quality Construction
Have only used this sander for one job (removing old finish from outside deck), but have to say that it feels like a well built tool. The weight and balance are much better than my old B&D sander, the tracking is excellent and the controls are well placed. Can’t comment on the durability but it has a substantial feeling that augers well.

Great tool for the price point.
Really happy with this - I chose this over the Makita I was more familiar with, as a belt sander doesn't get a lot of use in my shop, and thus didn't warrant spending more than I had to. This sander has worked great so far, in the couple of hours I have used it I have found it to be well made and ergonomic. I appreciated the light weight, but I wouldn't try refinishing any hardwood floors with it.

The Genesis is an excellent belt sander for the price
The Genesis is an excellent belt sander for the price. Made in the USA it is well made and looks like it will last a good while. The belt sandpaper that came with it has held up well while I was making 2 canoe paddles so I suspect that the Aleko belts that were ordered as an add on will do the job quite nicely as well. This sander has a 2 year warranty but should last a lot longer. The adjustments are easy to use and the belt tracks well.
