I have yet to break a yolk. I think most people's mistake is not letting the egg come to room temperature before trying to separate.. that makes all the difference.

What a TIMESAVER!!

Who knew that suction was the answer to separate eggs??!! No more cold, slimy hands & fingers! THIS WORKS! I read reviews and followed helpful tips from them. FOUR SUGGESTIONS: 1.) COAT THE CLEAR RIM WITH OIL BEFORE USE. 2.) USE ON COLD EGGS. 3. CRACK NOT MORE THAN 2-4 EGGS IN A WIDE, SHALLOW BOWL (like a pasta bowl). SUCK THE YOLKS OUT, POUR THE WHITES IN ANOTHER CONTAINER. 4.) PLACE SEPARATOR RIM LIGHTLY, BUT SQUARELY, ON THE SURFACE OF THE YOLK...TO CREATE SUCTION. AS YOU RELEASE THE BULB, SLIGHTLY TIP AND RAISE THE BULB AS IT ENGULFS THE YOLK. It is that easy! On my first use, NOT ONE YOLK BROKE, out of 15!! I love it!! So, I just got a great idea, a new way to use this! When I fry eggs, the yolks get too cooked while trying to get the whites done. HaHaa! Well, NOW, I suck the yolks out, let the whites cook, then replace the yolks to get warm...and stay runny!! LIFE IS BETTER, NOW!! :)

I've tested many a yolk separator and this one probably tops out at one of my favorites because it allows you to separate them with speed. The only drawback is that you would need to crack your eggs out into a shallow dish or pan first. The plastic nozzle at the tip allows for accurate attachment to the egg yolk. You press on the silicone body to create suction and the yolk is sucked in. It does require a bit of practice, especially during suction, because you have to tilt it once the yolk gets sucked in otherwise it will just fall back out when you lift. You do get the occasional yolk breakage and a little bit of white taken in with the yolk. It is also better to perform separation while your eggs are cold so there is less chance for the yolk to break

For the money, hard to go wrong. Very fast once you get the hang of it. Recommended.

For $6 you can't go wrong. I tried all strainer types and they just are too, too slow. This is very fast once you learn the technique. Crack all your eggs open into one dish and then squeeze the sizes to expel the air and then put it over the yoke and let go a little of the sides to allow air to suck in the yoke. It helps to have it tilted a little bit and then once it's in you go to the next and next and next. I separated 12 eggs for eggnog in about 30 seconds. It would take the stainer type that long to do one. It's true you get more white in with the yoke than with the other systems but I think it's a small amount and I think with practice it could be reduced to a very low amount. It's little big, so you'll have to find a place for it. (about the size of a softball).

Three stars for the three egg yolks I get every time

It doesn't work all that well. The inside obviously is impossible to scrub.

A time-saving gadget worth the extra drawer space

I love eggs, but after my cholesterol was high on several readings, it was necessary to compromise by decreasing yolks. If I make a frittata with 4 eggs + 4 whites = 6 eggs, my husband and I are happy. Before this, I separated yolks by passing back and forth between the halves of each shell. This works much faster, but loses 1 star because there can be some egg white retained with the yolk. I found that there is less egg white wasted if I remove 1 yolk, then open another egg and remove its yolk, etc. Another bonus: this can go in the dishwasher, so clean-up is easy.

Great product!

Works great! The suction is good unless you put all of the eggs in a bowl and then try to take the yolks out. It's like the egg white is too thick in a bowl and it covers up the yolks. what if you crack them either one at a time and take the yoke out or crack them straight into your skillet, this thing works great!

You Must Be Yolking!

This is by far, the best and easiest egg separator I have ever used. I'm not sure why other reviewers have broken the egg yolk but it is essential to squeeze the air from separator BEFORE placing it over the yolk. It's easy to clean, super-efficient and well worth the price.

Doesn't work!

My egg yolk broke twice I tried to separate the yolk! Very unhappy with this purchase. For $11 I expect something to work at the very least!
