A great device - cracks with 2 snaps and can open. May need to use a knife to finish the job afterwards.
This is America Test Kitchen's highest recommended egg cracker. I tried it on about.. 50 eggs so far and here's my review: Yes it does work. Two snaps will crack the egg, but not a clean cut. By clean cut I mean surgical line cut. No, it won't do that. I thought it would and I was disappointed at first. After trying other brands and checking with my friends, I realized that no cutter makes a clean surgical line. All egg cutters will dent and roughly cut the egg shells and a bit of manipulation by hand, by knife, or by twisting and turning the cutter is still required to remove the egg top. And the cut line won't be surgically clean. A bit jagged edge or cracked egg (down the egg) is normal and expected. The egg is covered by a white outer membrane and the membrane gets sticky and stiff after cooking, so that's what causing the shells to not cut surgically as I had dreamed for (albeit incorrectly). To make that surgical line, you need to use the topper to dent the shells and then use a sharp kitchen knife to finish the job. So, have the correct and proper expectations. Anyway, having said all that......... After about 50 eggs: 1. Use the topper to "cut" or "dent" the eggs with 2 snaps. 2. Twist and lift the topper off at an angle in attempt to peel off the egg top that's been scored/dented/cut by the topper. 3. Use a kitchen knife to finish the job. It is often needed despite best use of this tool. Eggs just aren't 100% uniform in size, shape, and shell rigidity. From eggs 40 to 50 (the last 10), having thoroughly experienced with the tool: 4 out of 10 eggs required a bit kitchen knife touch up after using the topper. The other 6 resulted in egg top removal without the need of additional knife work.

Works great, little expensive.
This gadget works really well and is a delight to use for soft boiled eggs. Having said that, I was really curious about the difference between this cutter and the cheapest no-name version. There is no difference in how well they work. So if you like to have a brand name stamp, go for it. Otherwise look for a cheaper version. Oh, tip for those who want to try it: Depending on the eggshell thickness I often engage the spring multiple times with a little twist in between. Works like a charm.

Fun to use
This is an amusing gadget, though it stakes a little practice to get the pressure right - sometimes doesn't crack the egg completely or, worse, sometimes is hard to remove from the egg, making a mess.

Perfect cut
I had never used one of these before, and I was shocked how easily it worked. I makes a perfect cut in the shell.

SNAP AND PEEL
I love eggs and cold hard boiled is the only way I eat them without bread or tortilla and the carbs that come with them. This is a matter of preventing weight gain not trying to lose weight though I should. I watched some videos on using these though Im more interested in peeling 18 to two dozen at a time then scooping them out of the shell with my spoon at the table. Ive tried many gimmicks for this with some but not satisfying success and this beats them all. I hold them in my hand put the device on the large end of the egg pull the handle back and let it snap then repeat on the small twisting the device lose like a screw because there is suction and sometimes the shell will come off on its on. I then use my knuckle to bust up the shell and start pealing on the large end where the air bubble is and quickly get a perfectly peeled hard boiled egg without running water though rinsing after is always a good idea. You are probably thinking you already do this so whats so easy ? Well my best guess is it breaks the membrane as well as neatly cutting the eggshell but whatever the reason its faster easier and much more of a sure thing and like I said running water is not needed to help separate the shell and membrane.

Works great and fits in my widget drawer
I used to have one of these that had just a rod on the top, vs a spring loaded shaft. It was over a foot tall, and kind of awkward to store. When we last moved, the top ball of the old one came off, and I didn't find it. So I thought I'd try this one, which is much better designed, I think. It certainly looks less gawky. Works great, fits in my widget drawer, and isn't as awkward to use. No complaints, performs the job very well.

Works perfectly
UPDATE: I've been using this gadget for over three years now and it still works perfectly. A few suggestions for people having problems...Use fresh eggs. Nothing is going to get the shell off an old cooked egg. Use only large eggs, not small, not extra large. This tool is not adjustable and is made to fit a large egg, period. The mechanics are, put the egg in an egg cup on a firm service, I use a spring type egg cup, hold the tool firmly on the egg, pull the plunger up all the way and release, do this twice. Remove the tool, if the cut shell doesn't come off with the tool peel the egg top off with your thumb. It's amazing. I saw the segment of America's Test Kitchen on the perfect soft boiled egg and they used this gadget. After more then 20 years of avoiding cooking these eggs they're on the breakfast menu every week and topping them with this handy gadget. ATK's technique works fine everytime for me. Put the egg in an egg cup, pointed end up. Hold the topper on top of the egg and pull up on the plunger and release. ATK recommended doing this twice to assure a clean break. Used with their cooking method I now make perfect soft boiled eggs every time.

I was surprised
I was pleasantly surprised to have this 'egg-capper' working. Works best on thick egg-shells.

Rosle Egg Decapacitor
Great tool, easy to use, excellent quality and worked perfectly. I used it to crack 50 eggs for Christmas baking and used the egg shells for mango coconut desserts.

It works
Was a little sceptical about this item will it work or just a gimmick well I can tell you it is one of the best kitchen gadgets we have purchased to date. This little thing just works you just seat it on top of your boiled egg pull and release the plunger and off comes the top of the egg shell in one brilliant

It seems to work pretty well.
It worked for me the first time--I didn't get any egg shell in my egg, which is nice. It's far better than cutting a hot, soft-boiled egg with a knife. I see amazon.ca sells it for $30, but amazon.com sells it for $12. Curious.

rosle egg topper
Saw this item on a tv cooking show. Really impressive. Not so impressed when used at home. There is a definate technique to using this when the eggs are just out of the water and are hot. I have totally shattered two eggs to date. I think it will take a lot of boiled egg breakfasts to master the technique. May be a bit of advice by the manufacturer would be helpful There are no instructions included.
