great crimps, 18 awg -10 awg
1) the cheap terminal crimpers that come with many terminal sets make a bad crimp. These terminal crimpers push down each side in a narrow path in a rounded shape "eye shape" 2) I have been using a "klein 1010" for about 5 years, this is the standard used at my shop. These terminal crimpers are better than the above. These terminal crimpers crimp in a narrow path in a "crescent moon" shape. The dent in the crimp shape makes a better connection and doesn't let the terminal fall off when pulled. The problem for me with this type is over crimping; I often use too much hand pressure and break through the plastic of the terminal. Usually don't have to re-terminate, but it can be ugly. 3) The 18900 crimpers are great. These crimp in about a 3/8 in path, so basically 3/4 of the terminal length is crimped. The crimp is rectangular, very strong, very professional looking. The crimpers don't allow you to over-crimp as they stop at the end of the ratcheting. Ratcheting helps keep the tool closed in your kit. Reds, blues, yellows crimped perfectly. 18awg through 10 awg works perfectly. Tried to crimp red on a 22 awg, wasn't tight enough, pulled wire out after crimping, but no big deal, for wire this small I will use my other crimpers. 90% of what I crimp is 18-14 awg, and this tool works perfectly for this range. Update 1 year: I have purchased 4 of these crimpers total. All the techs at my office love these. Definitely the best crimpers any of us have used. I saw a cheaper pair that looked the same at harbor freight, but were cheaper. I bought them for a comparison. The Harbor freight have a smaller crimping surface, maybe 1/4". The harbor freight worked well on blue and yellow terminals, but not tight enough on reds. It would have been more effort to return than it was worth, so I threw the Harbor Freight knock-off crimpers away. ... The 18900 crimpers are well worth the price. I recommend them highly.

Great crimper...but not for use with Anderson Power Poles
I bought this crimper hoping it was a less expensive alternative to crimpers made especially for crimping Anderson Power Poles (often used with amateur radio equipment). I spoke with a representative from the company that makes this tool to see if they knew of anyone using it in that capacity...but they did not. I told them I'd post a review after giving it a try. Pros 1) Great price 2) Very solid tool that appears to be well made 3) Makes incredibly good crimps on insulated connectors 4) VERY good at doing what it was built to do (crimping insulated connectors). Cons 1) Does NOT work with Anderson Power Poles (note, this is not really a "con" as they never claimed it would. I am just pointing out that if your application is the same as mine, it is not a good choice). Trying to crimp Anderson Power Poles with this tool was problematic because power poles are not insulated (at least not the part that you crimp), and therefore the tool was not crimping tight enough. In addition, this tool slightly flattens the connector at the crimping point, which can be problematic for power poles when you try to insert the crimped connector into the housing. If you are looking for a solid crimping tool at a very good price point for crimping insulated connectors, then this is the tool you want. If you are looking to see if it can replace a specialty Anderson Power Pole crimper (the most prolific of which is currently twice the price of this tool), then I advise you to look for something else. Please note that I did NOT return this tool, as I was so impressed with how it crimps insulated connectors (and its price) that I decided to keep it for that specific purpose.

Best tool I have used for crimp connections!
Previously, when performing automotive wiring, I had always used the manual wire crimpers. Unfortunately, I would always have to use both hands on the crimper, in order to get a good connection. After a long wiring job, I would experience hand fatigue and soreness. After purchasing this ratcheting crimper, I can now complete jobs without difficulty. The crimper itself has 3 channels, each color coordinated to the corresponding butt terminal or ring terminal size: red for 18-22 gauge wire, blue for 14-16 gauge wire, and yellow for 10-12 gauge wire. In order to use the crimper, you simply place your wire in the appropriate connector, place the connector into the corresponding channel on the tool, and squeeze. The ratcheting mechanism is simple and can be performed with one hand, which allows you to stabilize the wire while crimping. After one crimp with this tool, while using only one hand, I get a connection that is stronger than using two hands with a manual crimper and have no concerns of the wire pulling out of the connection. The tool also has a release button, which can be used to release the tension if you mistakenly attempt to crimp in the wrong channel. The tool itself and is well made and I have no concerns with it breaking. However, if it does eventually break or malfunction, I would still buy this item again. With the amount of time that I have used it, it has already been worth the purchase price. I highly recommend this item!

A must have in your tool kit
If you want a good solid crimp on insulated quick connects, spade, or ring terminals this is the best tool for the job, I carry it with me everyday at work and it comes in handy. I was using a greenlee all in one crimper/stripper/cutter but the crimps would sometimes slip when doing a pull test so I would have to waste another terminal and redo the crimp until it was right. After getting the S&G Crimper all my crimps are very solid and reliable. I mostly crimp 22 gauge wires and on occasion 12 gauge and have great results. I noticed If you're crimping 14-16 gauge terminals in the blue slot and the wire is not 14 gauge the wire may slip out of the terminal. I just use the red slot and re-crimp it, solves the problem. I don't know if its the tool or the terminal I was using but I tried it a couple of times with the same results. I wish this crimper had the ability to switch the dies so it could be a more versatile tool, I guess you just need to spring for the 18920 or 18960 sets for that.
