I order this item to better understand my calorie intake and be able to analyze ...
This product delivers! I order this item to better understand my calorie intake and be able to analyze what I am eating. I spent hours and hours on at the gym and wasn't seeing results after 6 months of intense training. Through research I realized the foods I was eating wasn't the healthiest to say the least and that all my efforts in working out was going to waste due to my diet. In fact, it is proven that 75 to 80 percent of work that goes into sculpting a good physique, is your diet. Therefore, I realized in order for me to see results, to reduce body fat percentage and overall calorie consumption, I need to better monitor my diet. I looked around at several products but the only one that caught my eyes was the Orange Chef Prep Pad with all its functionality. It’s not just a scale; it is a smart scale! Its light, small, and portable if you ever need to take it with you anywhere but for the most part it will be placed in the kitchen. It has got a mini Chef logo on it and the product is made in our good ole' US of A. The application is great! It knows what you are eating and it saves your meals so you can go back at the end of the week and see how you have been doing. My favorite part of the app is at the beginning when you are setting up the account: you can allocate your daily calorie goals however you like. If you are like me and would like to take more protein and less fat in your diet, or like many others who are on low carb diet, you can easily adjust the pie to your liking (I have mine at 40% Carbs, 40% Protein and 20% Fat). Every meal that you cook, the app gives you a score and so you know how what you ate actually measured up against your goals. I was surprise the first few times to see how much carbs I was eating and how little my food contained protein. A nice little addition to that is that you can name your meal, take a picture of it, assign it as your breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc and indicate how many servings of the food you just prepared. I know many people prep food ahead of time for another day or another time so this function can definitely come handy. The product can be used with a plate or container already on it. Once its placed on the scale, it asks you what it is and if you indicate that it’s a container (prior to adding your food to the container) it will zero out the weight of the container so it will only measure the weight of the food you will be adding to the bowl or plate or whatever you have on it. Lots of the products we use these days have barcodes, including pasta, salmon, eggs, or whatever else you buy from your “joes deli shack” or Safeway or wherever. This product has a barcode scanning function which comes very handy. You can simply scan the items you are using and it will tell you exactly what it is. I like this function since it is definitely more accurate than typing the food and trying to figure out the exact product to choose from the list. In addition, since in general people tend to eat the same types of meals, this app allows you to add your frequently used ingredient into the app as your favorite for easy access. For example, I consume a lot of eggs and yogurt and it’s nice to be able to select them from my saved ingredient. I really like this product and I fell like it is a hidden gem and that’s why I was compelled to write this much up. If you care about your diet and your health, this product can be very useful. It would also make a great gift for that health-nut family member or friend that we all have. I will be on the lookout to see what other enhancements or additions will be made to the app as this is still a relatively new concept with a lot of potential.

Nice Gadget, poor Application
It is a great concept, especially for those who want to know their calorie intake. The device works just fine, however, there are a lot of issues with the app.It is my first day using it and here is what I have noticed and what the manufacturers should think about in order to make this device ubiquitous: Pros: It is a durable device, with nice design. It doesn't look or feel fragile. Syncs with its own app within 2-3 seconds. Provides nice nutritional breakdown You can see how many calories you have left for the day It gives you an ability to take a picture of your meal Cons: The app in not user friendly, it is hard to navigate, and it is not fully developed. Some buttons will freeze. The app does not sync the info with any other applications. It is an absolute must, unless until their own app will provide the same flexibility and user friendliness as other apps do. You cannot have more than 1 account at the same time, for example I use Withings smart scale. When you weigh yourself you can assign a weight to a specific user. With Prep Pad app, there is no such ability, that is you would have to log out for another person to log in their meal. As many people have mentioned, the food base does not have everything, which would not be a problem if the app would allow people to add foods to public database. At this time everything you add will not be visible under a different account. That is, if you have more than 1 person using prep pad at your household, you would have to add the ingredient many times. I wasn't able to find an option to create a meal save it and then use for future logs. To my understanding everything you weigh and save must be assigned either to breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack. There is no way to create a dish and save it in favorites. Overall: It is a nice concept and has a huge potential, but at this stage the software is underdeveloped. As many other people I purchased this item to get rid of the necessity to log my foods into some app and the current prep pad app lengthens the process not reduces it.

Good product idea but needs more user function
I just received the Prep Pad yesterday and have had a fun time testing it out but don't know how accurate the information provided is. I used many foods that came with pretty straight forward nutritional information on packaging, one piece/serving 250 calories, 7 pieces 21 calories etc and even by scanning the bar code and placing items on the scale there seems to be a 5-10 cal difference from the prep pad value compared to the food packaging. I bought the scale for extra accuracy and now I don't know which information is correct and 5-10 calories per meal or item can really add up for those of us trying to hit an exact goal. I am debating keeping the product as it also lacks a useful function I expected it would have. You have this great nutrition/recipe tracking product and I was hoping this information would be transferable/share-able with other apps such as LoseIt, Myfitnesspal, etc. It does work with Jawbone UP however I have connected mine and information doesn't seem to be syncing at all to my Up feed or vise versa. It would be helpful for this information to seamlessly sync with another app that can be used as a diet and fitness journal because now I have the prep pad keeping track of food AND my LoseIt app tracking restaurant meals and daily exercises and calories burned. The problem is both don't share the same information and now I have to enter the information manually to my LoseIt account in order to have accurate reading of my daily nutrition, caloric intake, and calories burned since Prep pad is simply a nutrition scale and does not combine all functions. If I want an accurate daily nutrition report from my Prep Pad then I have to manually add those meals listed on my LoseIt app to avoid nutrition gaps. For the pretty penny this device cost they could add some of the user friendly apps I suggested to give us the real bang for our buck.
