Disappointed
This was just what we were hoping for until we realized that in order to adjust the temperature we had to take the cover off to move the lever. This is not how the picture shows it.

works with my 600 millivolt thermocouple
This is the only Honeywell thermostat CT53K1006 that works with the 600 millivolt thermocouple on my 1940 floor gas furnace. I had to straighten out the 2 thermocouple wires to hook up gently to this Honeywell thermostat to get my furnace to turn on. Now it works wonderfully. I tried Honeywell CT33A1009 thermostat and Emerson 1E78-140. They both did not work as they require at 750 millivolt to work. This Honeywell CT53K1006 will work with 250 to 750 millivolt thermocouples, which my thermocouple of 600 millivolt falls nicely within this range, and it works. Make sure to remove the corrosion from the ends of the 2 wires of the thermocouple with sandpaper before hooking up these 2 wires to this Honeywell thermostat to ensure good electrical contact.

It's Adequate-- Maybe
Since this is the only product of its kind that I've used, it's difficult to confidently assert any opinion about it because I have nothing to compare it to-- hence the wishy-washy middle of the road rating. Having said that, I'll share that the thermostat did not meet my expectations. I'm just not sure my expectations are reasonable. In replacing a simple on off switch on a gas fireplace, I was hoping to prevent the too hot/too cold cycle that results from my laziness (not wanting to jump up and turn the switch on and off frequently) as well as the wasted money from the occasional forgetting to turn off the fireplace at night. Unfortunately I've found that thermostat does not seem to be very sensitive and rather than turning it off and on within a reasonable temperature range, it stays on (and off) much longer than I would like. If there is a way to adjust the offset, I am unaware of it and do not see it in the instructions. The device is installed only about 3 feet from the fireplace, but it is on an outside wall, which could have something to do with the lack of sensitivity. Because it stays OFF longer than expected also, it's easy to trundle off to bed without realizing it's on....discovered only the next morning upon coming downstairs to a much too warm family room. There goes the savings! The responsibility, of course, remains mine...but so much for my plan!

Good for indoor gas fireplace.
Good for an indoor gas fireplace. You'll need a separate switch for the fan.

Good replacement for old "simple" thermostats
Our house was built in ~1940's and has a large gravity heat type furnace. The aging ITT t-stat was starting to malfunction so I picked this up as a replacement. Simple two wire install and it has a on/off switch which is nice because you can lever the temp set but manually control the heater. A word of caution - while installing mine I dropped the face plate/cover which contains the ambient temp indicator. I think I knocked it out of calibration! Not a big deal as we usually set the heat by "feel" but I'm always curious as to the temperature inside the house. According to my wife "its always freezing" which means 23 F or 0 C! Put on a sweater...

Reliable
Essential for us. We needed thermostats which shut off because the ones originally installed for our Jotul gas heaters (750 milliliter) kept coming on when the temperature became 50 degrees or lower. They were installed in rooms we didn’t want heated all the time. These have been perfect, and are a big relief. At night, I turned on a light I placed near the original thermostat on one of the heaters. This worked, but was ridiculously annoying. Of course these with an off and on work like the original Honeywell modulating the heat when turned on.

Expected a well constructed theormostat by Honeywell. This is ...
Expected a well constructed theormostat by Honeywell. This is a basic unit. Off or Heat Swtich (which is not very well constructed. I tested the On/Off switch several times with a VOM (volt ohm meter). The contacts of the switch vary from 1 ohm to 5 ohms each time the Off/ Heat switch is turned on and off. The difference betweem 5 ohms and a lower 1 ohm reading is significant when relying on a contact closure to the pilot generator. If the resistance or ohms vary each time the Tstat is turned on... the signal or contact closure may not activate the pilot generator. I have had to turn flip the Off/ Heat switch on back and forth for up to 10 times before the heater turns on. In my opinion, very cheaply made Chinese construction.

this is a keeper
finally! i advise people that are useing a milivolt wall furnace do not buy the thermostats that say they will work on both 24 volt and milivolt systems. they don't. the last two i bought from white rodger clamed they would keep the temp within 3 degrees of the settings is far from the truth. with the 8 to 10 degree spread i was too cold or too hot. no inbetween. there was no heat anticipator adjustments when used on a milivolt system. this Honeywell does keep the temp within 2 degrees of the setting without a heat anticipator. it even has some space behind it for the thermostat wire so it is not smashing the wire against the wall. the white rodger had no space and i had to force it against the wall when screwing it down. i think i will get a second one now while the getting is good before it is discontinued. when i like something and try to get another one a few months later its not being made anymore. grin

Mine didn't work
I wanted to like this thermostat. It's reasonably pretty and the ON-OFF switch is a handy feature. But it couldn't control my millivolt gas fireplace reliably. The thermostat would switch ON and OFF with changing temperature, but the fireplace would only light occasionally when the thermostat called for heat. I measured my thermopile open circuit voltage as 479 mV. When the thermostat was supposedly closed and asking for heat, the voltage across the thermostat terminals was 300 mV! (A properly closed switch should have almost zero mV across it.) The voltage drop seemed to be split between the ON-OFF switch and the thermostat switch. And the voltage drop varied all over the place if one jiggled the ON-OFF switch or put any stress at all on the back plate. Not acceptable for a "millivolt" rated thermostat. Or any thermostat, for that matter. Another annoying thing is how loud this unit is when it switches off. No big deal if it's in a living room or some such, but when it's in a quiet bedroom, the "sproing" sound when it opened was enough to wake one up. Sent mine back and will try something else.

Good product!
My old CT50 did not start working properly. I replaced it with CT53 and works just perfect. I hope it goes long.
