Good quality, but difficult to set up and program.

This thermostat has a nice backlit display with easy to read setting and temp info. However, the programming instructions that come with the product are very challenging and confusing. I recommend hiring a local HVAC service technician for installation and programming.

wiring diagram provided in the instructions were misleading!

I have a 3 wire zone valve control system, the one line diagram drawings we're unnecessarily difficult to understand. Not sure why, it makes no sense to me. Called a plumber friend to ask his advise. He agreed with me on the drawings ans hooked it up as he has done for years, worked well, just frustrating to follow.

It does the job

This thermostat is easy to read and does the job well. In addition it is programmable. You can set times to raise and lower the temperature for both heating and air conditioning. The only issue is that it will. To adjust both heating and air conditioning without setting it to either heat or a/c. In other words you cannot have it turn on some heat in the morning and then switch to a/c for the afternoon. The temperature reading is adjustable also so if it is a little off you can correct it. The thermostat has a setting to make the house warm or cool at the time you program it. This means it turns on the heat or a/c before the set time. It didn’t like this so I turned this feature off. Now if I want the heat to come on at 6:00 am then it comes on then and not earlier. I like the thermostat and would buy it again.

Slow temperature reading change, but still accurate

Excellent display - can read it from across the room. Easy to install. The one-button control feature is as simple and quick as it gets. But the temperature reading is very slow to change. Results in overshooting the target. So I just set the desired temp target two degrees lower. Edit: I just spoke with White-Rodgers on the help line. They said that built into the device, there is an unannounced automatic 5-minute delay per indicated degree change on the display, presumably to prevent rapid cycling of your heater/AC. I use my new thermostat in manual mode, turning it on for heat in the morning. So, if you have a smaller house (like my 650 sq. ft. condo), and the heater can warm the place faster than the (delayed) thermostat display will respond, the actual room temperature rise will be underreported. This postpones operation of your preset-temperature off-command to the heater, allowing the actual room temperature to keep on rising. The remedy is to pick a lower temperature set point for the initial cycle (in my case - 2 degrees lower, to prevent a 5 degree overshoot, which is uncomfortable), and, after the display comes back down to the initial heater-off command setting, increase the set point to the final desired temp - which the thermostat will maintain quite evenly thereafter.

Plug and Play

So I replaced my existing thermostat with the exact same thermostat here. I expected a plug and play type of situation which it was but the hardest part, since I am not an electrician, is putting in the wires into the correct spots. I had to cut the wires from my previous thermostat which saved the color scheme. I am glad I did that because it helped a lot. So I had a heck of a time putting in the wires into the new receptacle. It is not as easy as I see. Unscrewing the top screw was easy enough but it didn't seem to open up as much as I would like too. anyways, I got the wires in and tighted. Screws all in the wall firmly. Now for the test. Great stuff. But there is one thing that I miss and that is the clicking of the temperature buttons. I don't use the programmable part of this at all, too complicated. But before everytime I set the temperature I heard a clicking sound. Now with this new thermostat there is no clicking sound? I mean it works but it is a reassuring sound that the temperature numbers are working. Anybody experience that? Should I not worry about it? Other than that, I am happy with this product.

Homeowner can install easily

I had great, speedy service from MARS To You, the seller of my Emerson Programmable Blue Easy Reader Thermostat. Thought I'd have to call an electrician, but no. The Home Depot video, "How to Install a Thermostat" was so helpful on preparation and installation as were other online resources. By following step by step I successfully replaced an old one of same model that had failed. I'm so pleased to have a new, beautiful, functioning programmable thermostat again!

Excellent Thermostat, Nightmare to program

The thermostat is great once installed and programmed. Tech support is also outstanding. I had to call them twice, the second time I was on the phone with them for over half an hour. They were so busy that I had to leave a message for them to call me back. THEY DID. Both times about an hour later. That's were the 5 stars come to an end. The instructions that come with the unit are USELESS. I watched youtube videos for the physical installation, very helpful. However, little help on youtube for programming. The biggest problem I had was I couldn't get the thermostat to run properly in program mode. My fan would stay on, never shut off. The reason for that is it comes programmed for a heat pump. I don't have a heat pump, I have a new single stage system. I spent a half hour on the phone with tech support trying to figure this out. Helpful hint, make sure you tell them what type of system you have up front, it will save you a lot of time. Tech support was also patient and polite. That's more than I can say for myself. Like I said its a great thermostat once you work through the kinks. I would definitely buy again.

DIFFICULT to set up

I am no BRAINIAC when it comes to following written instructions. These instructions and buttons and abbreviations were incomprehensible! I was going to keep it and just manually adjust for day/evening/away because the BIG DISPLAY is great. But if I am going to use a non programmable thermostat then I will buy a much cheaper old style dial up. GOOD LUCK

Temperature display is accurate. Easy to install. Directions alright - better than most. Not using the programmable days feature. Did figure out how to set display To Celsius. Very - very - very pleased with this unit - will buy again and again. I recommend this thermostat to people that ask about thermostats.
