Not a full 36”
The wood piece is 36” per the product description. The vinyl sweep, unfortunately, is not. Mine is about 35-3/8”, so I’ll have a 5/8” gap blowing cold air under my 36” entry door. Poor quality control.

Great product and price!
This wood and vinyl door sweep was exactly what we wanted to stop the draft from coming into our home. The product was easy to cut and size down to fit our solid core wood door. We used a miter saw to cut the excess wood off (though I imagine a simple handsaw would work too) and then (as directed in the instructions) used scissors to trim the vinyl to size. Some of the reviews about the vinyl not fitting into the groove properly gave me pause, but I'm glad I went ahead with the purchase because using a rubber mallet (as I saw one of the reviewers did) to gently tap the vinyl into place worked like a charm (the product came with no instructions on how the company recommended to do this). We had absolutely zero issues with the install and this keeps all that cold air out. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

It’s hardwood, but
I like these door sweeps as they are effective on keeping out drafts, easier to cut then metal ones and generally look better. The rubber insert is durable. The wood color and grain on this one was odd, I varnished and it’s OK, but not like previous ones where the grain and color were more consistent. If you are going to paint it’s a non issue. Would purchase again and maybe play around with some stain, but that really shouldn’t be necessary and adds another step and expense..

Good Product - Quality Control Has Slipped
Have purchased a lot of these over the years, but neither Lowes or Home Depot stock them anymore. Seems that quality control has slipped a bit since last time I purchased some. Out of the 4 received with this order 2 of them were pretty ragged... one of those was miscut badly enough that it very noticeable. That being said, it is a good product. TIP: I've noticed some people saying they had trouble placing the vinyl into the groove on the back of the wood... if you're trying to slide it in you'll beat yourself to death. The easiest way is to use a rubber mallet to tap the vinyl into the groove... just don't whack it so hard you split the wood.

Wood is nice, quality control lacking
The Pros: I really like that it is wood and you can stain or paint it. Looks a lot better than metal or plastic. Fits in much better with a classic home. The Cons: The quality control seems to be be poor. I sent my first one back as half of it was super rough. The replacement was better but still had some scalloping on one end. As others mentioned, the slot that accepts the vinyl sweep is a bit too narrow and sure enough even though I lubricated it and was gentle, the vinyl sweep insert cracked the wood when I inserted it. I glued it back together and used a utility knife to trim off some of the vinyl insert so it fit in the groove without cracking the wood. Anyway, it does look good now that I’m all done.

The wood split upon rubber installation
I wasn’t not happy with this. The wood and rubber came in two pieces and you have to put the rubber in the wooden a lot in order to install. The rubber was clearly too wide to fit in the wooden slot and literally split the wood all the way down the full 36 inches. I’ve now had to try and clamp and super glue the rubber in the wood as well as the split in the wood. I would return but no longer have the large box for this item. So now it’s not going to look so good on the door and may not even hold. I don’t recommend.

Works, But Needs Better Design or Quality Control
I wanted to give this 1 star because, same as others have reported, mine split when I pounded the vinyl sweep into the wood part. But a year passed between when I opened the product and installed it, and in that time the instructions and screws got separated from the rest and eventually lost. So I don't know whether the instructions told how to easily install the vinyl. I glued and screwed the wood part back together and used a C-clamp to squeeze the vinyl sweep into it little by little. The whole thing installed on the door easily, took a stain and is doing the job of keeping out the cold air. So I give it 3 stars to indicate that it works but that it has a design deficiency that keeps me from recommending it.

Correctable flaws
As others have said, this weather strip has significant quality control issues. I appreciate that it's wood and paintable/stainable, but the final finish of the wood is poor. The more significant problem however, is that the groove in the wood that accepts the plastic/rubber is too narrow. Even tapping gently with a rubber mallet causes the wood to crack. Oak is a nice hardwood but is prone to cracking so perhaps this problem could be eliminated by using a different type of hardwood. If these design flaws could be corrected it would be a very nice weather strip but as it is I'm unable to recommend it.

Poor quality
Over-priced for the quality. Poor milling work, screw holes tore out pieced of wood, groove for rubber strip is not structured to prevent cracking of the wood and the wood is rough and needed a lot of sanding to remove imperfections. With a lot of work I made it work because I wanted a wood strip but it was barely worth it with the difficulty in getting the rubber strip in place, dealing with gluing it together after cracking and the poor finish. Because it is at the bottom of the door no one will notice but not good quality for the price.
