Not sure but warming to it ...
UPDATE 04/17/14: as previously stated, I've been a little worried about using this metal dish ... doesn't seem like stainless to me. today, I washed it again and decided to give it a try. I put my kitty's regular food in it, and he didn't seem interested but did, later, eat some (after being coaxed by me). awhile, later, I noticed he thrown up (not hair ball either!). i'm not sure if this is just coincidence or not, but it's too much coincidence for me! he doesn't usually throw up, especially light yellow-looking fluid with a little food mixed in! I immediately, dumped the food and went back to using his regular bowls from my own set of dishes. i'm on the lookout again, searching for the best cat dish. I don't think i'll be looking in the "pet supplies" section, tho. i'm deducting another star because i'm sure this isn't a quality feeding bowl, and now I don't believe it to be safe. there should have been no reason for my cat to throw up like that, except for this pet bowl. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I just don't know what to think about this pet dish. My immediate impression was bad, but, after further inspection, i'm warming to it with reservations. it seems extremely light weight and doesn't "feel" like real stainless steel, but I hope i'm wrong. I guess time will tell. one good thing ... the product label says "made in india," so, at least, it's didn't come from china. we're going to give it a try and see what happens ... see how my cat likes it, how it washes, if it discolors, chips, or rusts, etcetera. if it does work out, the price is such that I might buy a few more. anyway, i'm hoping for the best! right now, i'll just be happy to have one of my cereal/salad bowls from my own set of dishes back ... kitty knocked one off the table and broke it, so i'm already short one bowl in my set! it's been so hard to find the right cat-feeding dishes ... most have the straight, high, sharp-angled sides. manufacturers just don't seem to "get it" about what kind of dish cats prefer eating from, and i'm so tired of tossing canned food that has dried because it's been left stuck in the sharp angles. btw, the label was very easy to remove from the dry dish (don't wet it first), and the label reads: "SPOT, Diner Time, STAINLESS STEEL, Pet Dish tm, c 2011 Ethical Products, Inc., Bloomfield, NJ 07003, Made in India." i'm really hoping this dish works out, as i'm so tired of constantly being on the look out for cat dishes that both kitty and I can live with. as usual, if I later find this product worse or better than my current take on it, i'll return with an update, possibly changing the rating and explain why.

Perfect for a young adult German Shepherd who chews plastic bowls and slings traditional bowls through the air during "play"
Our young adult German Shepherd has decided plastic bowls are chew toys and then learned with a traditional stainless steel bowl that it's FUN to pick it up with his teeth while running through our home, then with a quick snap of his head he learned he can THROW a traditional bowl. That's fine and good until he slings the bowl at the glass curio cabinet... !! or into my leg (OUCH!) The Ethical 32 oz bowl is PERFECT!! I seriously doubt the bowl itself holds 32 ounces though. We fill it level, twice a day, with Taste of the Wild Salmon for the perfect amount for a still growing and filling out highly energetic 11 month old male German Shepherd. He cannot pick up the bowl, he cannot chew the bowl. He does scoot it around on the floor somewhat but that's a far cry better than the previous antics. The 32 oz bowl holds the perfect amount of food, not too much, not too little. I would definitely buy this stainless steel bowl again!! Btw I looked for this bowl at traditional box stores, not only was it not available, the other bowls were far more expensive! Note: If you are feeding a bulky grain based cereal form of dog food, this bowl may not be large enough for a large dog that needs a larger quantity of food, in which case get 2 bowls or feed more frequently (which is healthier anyway).

No Tip. No Slide. No Stain. No Odor.
I love this type of dog bowl, and I find that it's harder and harder to find these bowls at online pet stores. Because of the rubber trim, they don't slide across the floor when my dogs are eating. The bowls don't stain and don't get smelly. They are very easy to clean. And they hold exactly the amount of food (one to two cups) I need for each of my medium-size dogs. And they're super light, compared with ceramic bowls. They are dishwasher-safe, and I find that the only drawback is that if you do wash them in the dishwasher regularly, the rubber trim starts falling off. For me, it's worth the trade-off because at this price, it's not a huge deal to buy new bowls every two years or so. If you hand-wash, I'm sure you can give the trim a much longer life. I saw another review where the person was unhappy with the misleading size. I can sympathize. I don't blame the manufacturer because all the pet bowls are sized this way. I agree that they should distinguish capacity from overall size. And I wish they marked the size on the bowl because I can never remember what size I bought last. Fortunately, when I buy from Amazon, I can just look up my last order.

Larger non slip dog water bowl.
I like that this bowl is larger, deeper and will probably last a few doggie lifetimes.

Doesn't spill
This bowl is indeed a non-spill. My yellow Labrador retriever had taken to carrying his old bowl around, Snoopy style. When I'd first fill it, he'd look at it, eat a mouthful or less, then intentionally tip it over and carry the bowl around for a while, spreading food far and wide in the process. It was funny the first 3 times. So I bought this bowl. End of that problem! It only took him about a week to tear off the rubber ring around the base. The rubber is there primarily to keep the bowl from flying around the eating area reminiscent of a food-filled hockey puck. Conveniently, that's not a problem I have with my dog, so I can deal without the rubber ring. If your dog plays hockey with his bowl, you'll want to keep looking. But if you're just trying to prevent easy tipping over, this bowl is perfect. I definitely prefer metal bowls for my dog. They are so much easier to clean. So for me, this bowl is nearly perfect. Now, if I could just find one similar to my old ones, with rubber glued onto the bottom, but in this shape so he can't tip it over.

After receiving I realized that the incline to the dish ...
After receiving I realized that the incline to the dish causes the water bowl and the food bowl side by side to take up more space than I had anticipated. I also wasn't expecting the rubber on the bottom to be removable.
