Great Value, But Defects In Manufacturing
I bought both the Spear + Jackson border spade as well as border fork (stainless steel). They're both really nice, especially for the price. I would prefer to have an option without finish, so I can oil the wood myself, but for anyone who just wants to use them as-is, they're great. My only issue... the border spade has the handle grip attached "off-center". This could compromise it's sturdiness over time. I returned and sent for another and the second had the same issue. Seems like a factory issue with a whole batch.

Edging Fork
Lovely little fork. The wife was over the moon with it.

THIS is the Prince of garden border forks.
This S&J boarder fork is worth every expensive penny. Stainless, solid, hickory handle, solid. Balance is fantastic, finish is fantastic. It is a heavy work of art. Heavy because its a solid stainless fork, not a cheap imitation/hollow thing. Pay attention to the dimensions and notice it's height - perfect for border work. Heavy enough to sink deeply into soils, and lift/pry up bulbs, grasses, edging and you name it. Great for dividing plants. This fork will last your ENTIRE lifetime unless you do something really ah... disastrous to it. It is a pleasure to own and use. I've encouraged several of my Master Gardener friends to invest in this S&J. We all... all... love them.

Nice shovel
Nice English shovel. Works well but may be a little overpriced as compared to American shovels but the quality is better.

Broke after three months
I love this shovel but it broke in half only three months after I bought it. I don't know if it was an imperfection in the wooden handle or a flaw in the tool itself.

Handle breaks and it is not covered by the warranty and they do not sell a replacement.
Love the size of this fork and the stainless steel is perfect but the handle breaks. It is not covered by warranty and nobody makes a replacement. I have bought 3 of the forks. Will not buy another.

Made right, made to last
My garden has heavy clay and the last three cheaply made forks I bought bent right at the base where the tines meet the neck within the first year (one within the first day!). I was so sick of wasting my money on junk that I started looking for a solid metal fork like the ones I used to have as a kid. For some reason, NO ONE seems to sell them anymore! I looked locally and online, and this one from Amazon was one of the few I could find where the tines and neck of this fork are one piece, steel and forged and heavy duty enough to actually do the job! I've had for a while now and it does do the job, perfectly! So solid and durable, exactly what I needed. I wish this design of spading fork were the norm, but even if you have to look for one like this, it is so worth spending a little extra to get something that is going to actually last. Don't waste your money on anything that isn't made this good.

Reputation is stellar, product disappointed...
UPDATE: Spear and Jackson reached out directly to me after I complained and are replacing it for free. So I think this might have been an anomaly. I was eager to start using this high end digging fork from Spear and Jackson, since I dropped $90 on it and all other pitchforks I had bought were trashed in a matter of weeks. This fork worked great for about 3 months until one day it just snapped at the joint to the stainless steel piece. Needless to say I was disappointed. Maybe I just got a bad piece of wood or something, but a ten year warranty sure would suggest that it should last a heck of a lot longer than 3 months. I’ve contacted the company directly to see if they will replace it for free. At that point I might amend my review, but until then, I can’t endorse this fork.

It's a garden fork
I bought this just in case brexit is cancelled, so I can defend myself against foaming-at-the-mouth mobs with pitch forks

Attractive but not a digging fork
This is a very pretty fork, which would look good in anyone's tool shed. I can thoroughly recommend it if your soil is friable and easily worked, e.g. a vegetable bed, which has been dug regularly each season and has benefitted from the regular addition of compost. If yours is a new garden, however, say on a new housing estate, where the builder has buried the usual rubble of half bricks, wall ties and timber offcuts, this is not the fork for you. The manufacturer warns against using it to lever up roots and the like but frankly this is a tad disingenuous. The soil in my garden is sandy and therefore very light. I had recently had some landscaping work carried out as a result of which the soil had become compacted and I wanted to fork it over to loosen it and to remove perennial weeds. For 90% of the time the fork worked well. It was light to use, it penetrated the soil easily and the soil did not cling to the tines. But then I would come across a piece of buried root. The root would be less than 2 cm in diameter and less than 0.5 m long but, if one of the end tines caught on it, the tine would bend. It is inevitable, when digging, that you will hit buried objects. The heavier the soil, the more force is required to dig it and the more likely it is that such things will happen. Which is why I say that the manufacturer's warning is disingenuous. It is a very attractive fork. It is light to use and to keep clean. But, it is not a fork for digging. It is a fork for forking.

Not fit for purpose
Used only once this quite expensive garden fork which on the outside looked the part lasted two digs before the handle snapped inside the metal fork shaft. The wood looked like it had woodworm. Had it engraved for my son-in-laws 40th birthday along with a spade. Spoke to Spear and Jackson and told to speak to Amerzon. Is that possible???? I will get my money back but will be out of pocket with the engraving.

Update 29/03/20Looks good and should be a great tool for the garden
Although not used yet, it looks sturdy and good quality, it a garden fork afterall! After using this fork to spike a 15m x 10m lawn (clay soil), I’m impressed. The fork is robust and feels solid. The only nice to have would be a slightly thicker top to the steel fork as this would help reduce pressure on the sole of your feet when pushing the fork into clay or dense souls. One point I find absolutely ridiculous is on delivery, the fork was encased in a large study cardboard box. However on opening, after wading through a load of scrunched up paper for padding, another sturdy cardboard box appears containing the fork and load more padding! Its a garden fork made of steel and heavy wood for goodness sake so not likely to be delicate and be damaged in transit, the amount of padding and cardboard was completely unwarranted and must have doubled the original weight, not to mention the amount of wasted materials that will require re cycling. Come on Amazon, put a little thought and consideration into things!!

Quality really does pay! ????
Earlier this week, I bought a bargain spade, and hadn't bargained for it being unsuitable for digging!????‍♂️ - So I bought this one in its place, and gave the jelly-spade to a neighbour. This spade is brilliant. It has a small head, turned over at the top to give your boot better purchase. - And it really will lever out even wet clay-filled soil. It still leaves me breathless after a few minutes however, but that's down to my fitness rather than the spade's fitness for the job. Recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
