Works Pretty Good, if not consistently
I have a betta in a 1.5 gallon bowl/aquarium on my desk. I am in CA, so it never gets freezing, but they do turn off the heat at night and over the weekend. His water was getting too cold. I bought the 7.5 watt version because of some of the reviews. This heater seems to be intermittent. Sometimes the water is perfect, other times it's a bit cool, but not cold. The info that came with the unit didn't say anything about it going off and on, so I don't know if that is normal. My betta, Kevin, seems to be fine. I have his bowl full of pathos, and he loves it. He really seems to be a lot more active now that I have added the heater. I took him home over the Christmas break, and my cat was too interested (as you see in the photo). No worries, though. We put him somewhere safe. The photo shows the bowl and Kevin really well. He's back on my desk at work now. He's been there for over a year now, so he's doing fine and continues to be healthy. Because of the information I've read here, I will probably unplug and remove the heater once the weather warms up. It sits on the very bottom of the bowl and I have a fist sized rock sitting on it to hold it down. A lot of it is exposed to the water, so that may be why it heats so well.

My Beta Likes It
I have this in my Beta bowl. It's not a huge environment, but with a fairly large surface area for it's size (i.e. it's rather shallow). Full, the bowl probably holds about 1 1/3 gallons, it's probably got about a gallon in it as I write this. I keep the heater buried in the gravel (well, really in, the gravel is stacked around, but not over it) and the cord runs up the side of the bowl attached with a suction cup (which came with the unit). I don't keep daily temperature logs but a quick look at the thermometer in the bowl indicates it's at about 74F right now. I would guess when full it keeps it at about 70F. The thermometer probe is attached opposite the heater. The whole unit is in a heated office, kept at room temperature, with air circulated by overhead fans, so it's a pretty stable environment. Since the heater is running flat out all the time, and has no thermostat, the temp would obviously fluctuate with the surrounding environment. Overall, the heater seems to work well for what it is. It's unobtrusive enough to not bother my fish, even in the small bowl, puts out just enough heat to keep him toasty, and I like that I can just jerk it out and set it aside without burning it out when I need to clean the bowl (it is not supposed to be damaged when not submerged and the cord slips out of the little suction cup clip, so you don't even need to undo the suction cup). I'm happy, and my fish is happy, but admittedly my needs were not great. In a real tank (or even a larger bowl), or in an environment where the temperature fluctuated, it would obviously not work as well, if at all.

Good heater but can struggle.
I setup a 5.5 gal Betta tank on my desk at my office and since the tank was smaller I wanted to try to hide the heater as much as possible. I decided on the Hydor since it was fully submersible and was told the heater cold be buried under the substrate. The heater arrived and upon first inspection everything looked good. The heating pad was nice and wide and even pliable. The cable was long and came with a cable guide and suction cup to help route the wire. Once in place the heater appeared exactly as I wanted, invisible except for a cable running up the side of the tank. Once it was in the tank initially everything was fine and the the heater would get the tank to a respectable temperature such as 78 or 80. Over the course of a few weeks and season change I noticed the temperature would fluctuate from 68 to 84 degrees. I will not fault the heater for the fluctuation. The heater did exactly what it was advertised to do and did it well. The wide fluctuation is entirely do the the ambient temperature in our office. During the winter months the ambient temperature is very warm and this caused the tank to get hot since this heater is always on. Now that summer has come the AC is running and it s very cold and the 15w heater just doesn't have enough power to heat the tank. Pros: Slim Can be hidden. Under the right ambient temperatures I feel like this heater would work fine for small tanks. Cons: There aren't many cons to this product however it seems the useful application of this heater is very limited.

Keeps the tank perfect temp
I have this heater beneath sand and rocks in a 5 gallon tank, and it keeps the tank at a perfect temperature for Midas. 100% recommend ????????

Great heater for a fish bowl
I have a 1.5 gallon fish bowl for my betta fish. The bowl is in my office which is always cold, at least 68 F degrees. I needed the lowest wattage I could find. This is the only flat heater I've seen and it runs both wet and dry. After reading the reviews, I took the advice of a couple of reviewers. I placed the heater on a porcelain dinner plate and put the fish bowl on top of the heater. The heater is between the plate and the bowl, it is not in the fish bowl. It brought the temperature of the water up by 6 degrees, so the bowl is regulated between 74 and 76 degrees. There is no way to tell if the heat pad is on, unless you check the heater itself and keep an eye on the fish bowl thermometer. I took the suggestion of another reviewer and added a cheap wall timer for the heater. I programmed it for 1 hour on and 1/2 hour off. I was uncomfortable having the heater run continuously, so the wall timer is working out well. It took a few days to make sure the heater and the wall timer were both doing their jobs, but so far almost three months later all is good. Hector the betta is happy he has a warmer bowl to swim around in. Good value and gets the job done for a small bowl.

Doesn't heat enough
The one job this is supposed to do, it does not do well. I can't get my 3 gal tank over 74 degrees with this heater for my betta. It's not in a cold room or anything like that. It also does not have a display to show you the temp or allow any sort of control (plug in- on; unplug- off). For the price it looks like you can get products that tell you the temperature and allow you to control the temp. I bought it for the sleek design but I should have saved my money because now I have to buy a new heater. It does stick well to the back of the tank though.

Id like to get in contact with the seller if possible
Id like to get in contact with the seller if possible, i think i received a defective device. This is supposed to heat up to a 5 Gallon, which is exacly what i have. I received this on September 13th, we are the 21rst today and temperature reading is 72.9F. I thought maybe i wasnt plugged in properly, i verified everything, its not working, i can touch it with my hands and its not even warm. Recently its been really hot outside, we dont have air conditioning, but winter is comming and im in canada, this isnt gonna work... Is there anyway we can wake a trade and get a new one? I read all the reviews and it seemed like a great product, so im pretty sure its just the one i got that isnt working.

I think this is a pretty decent heater for the price
I think this is a pretty decent heater for the price. It keeps my betta tank warm, without overheating it which was definitely a concern of mine. I like that it can be put in the tank nicely and be hidden from view, so it doesn't ruin the look of your tank. The two things that were kind of annoying though is that it didn't have a temperature control, which isn't the biggest deal, and also there doesn't seem to be any indicator when it's actually on. No light or anything so I just had to wait and see if the tank heated up to see if it was working. Other than that it really does work well and it does it's job so I would reccomend it.

Not compatible for a 5 gallon tank
I loved the idea of this heater, sub-gravel, slim. Unfortunately it does not work for a 5 gallon tank, despite being advertised as being able to heat it. When I woke up my tank had dropped to 68 degrees. My poor Betta was lying on the gravel where the heather was trying to get warm. When I removed the heater it was room temperate, who knows how it was expected to heat the tank. For anyone looking for a heater I recommend the "Pawfly HT-2025 Submersible Aquarium Heater 25W with Thermometer and Suction Cup, 5 Gallon" It's adjustable and super reliable.

4W Heater Not Worth the Purchase
I ordered the 4W heater, which says it's sized for tanks up to 2.5 gallons. I have a 1 gallon hospital tank situated in a heated living room and it has barely been able to keep the temperature in the green...70 degrees at best. Maybe the other larger heaters are better but the 4W is super disappointing, especially for the price, and totally inadequate for the tank size the packaging claims it will work for. I would guess it might be powerful enough to warm a betta cup if you're lucky.
