Amazing and Trustworthy Pump
I have owned a few of these over the years. I have never had a problem with them, so I purchased two more for my new marine/saltwater tank.

Great promise, poor design
I want to love this power-head. It's priced right, looks good, and has a great magnetic mount. The impeller design quite simply stinks and that's the best I can say about it. Unit #1 ran for (3) days on Hydor's own Smart Wave timer. The magnetic impeller continuously fell out of the groove and lost the ability to spin. Upon further inspection the bushing was swelled and barely allowed the shaft to spin. Amazon was top notch as usual and shipped out a brand new unit right away. Unit #2 ran for less than 24 hours before it stopped responding. Power to the unit was fine, and I did in fact switch outlets to eliminate that as an issue. If the impeller was removed and then reinserted the unit would usually spin back up. I did not buy the smart wave unit and these power-heads so that I have to babysit it every 15 minutes. I am trying to get in contact with Hydor right now as I am told there is a modified impeller. Hopefully they have a fix for this issue as I cannot expect Amazon to keep sending out units until I get lucky and one works. Update 9-24-12: I adjusted my rating to 4 stars after getting the unit to work correctly for quite a while now. The bushing in the rear of the unit within the housing itself required replacement. It was causing the unit to seize up as described above even though all signs pointed to the impeller swelling and causing the issues. Replacing that one little ceramic bushing turned this unit from a loser to a fantastic addition to the tank. The 4 star rating is only due to the fact that this pump has performed flawlessly since the part change. Not a single hiccup! Hydor did take a while to get back to me, but they did send out a replacement impeller as well. Now this is not something that should have occurred on multiple brand new units that I received and the 4 star rating is quite a change, but I cannot imagine my tank without the flow of the Koralia.

Works, BUT THERE IS AN ISSUE.
Bought this Model as well as the 750-850 GPH. Both developed the same problem after about 6 months of use. There is a rubber bumper attached to the inside of the grill which prevents the impeller from going into reverse when the motor starts. If you are going to attach these pumps to a unit like the Hydor Koralia Smart Wave controller which cycles the pumps on and off at the set intervals, ( in my case it's every 10 seconds ) the bumper is eventually going to break off. The repeated hitting on the bumper by the impeller is going to weaken the thin area of the grill where the bumper is mounted. Had to use lots of Super Glue Gel to reattach the broken off parts. So far they are holding up. If you are going to have the pump running non-stop 24/7, then this problem should not occur. Reported the issue to Hydor, they offered to send me a replacement grill. Declined, as the same thing will happen again 6 months down the road. Guess I will be switching brands.

Quiet if You Don't Use the Smartwave Controller - Otherwise Makes Popping Sound
So I was a little disappointed purchasing two New Hydor Koralia 850 pumps with the Hydor Smartwave Controller. In speaking to Hydor tech support, he said all AC circulation pumps that Hydor sells make a clicking or popping sound as the impeller strikes the front of the housing at start-up because the pump starts in reverse and needs to spin forward. If you are using the Smartwave Controller, this means a popping sound from each connected pump as often as every few seconds, so, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop.... You get the idea. This popping sound is very annoying so I asked the tech what could I do to resolve this concern. So in a long discussion with the Hydor tech, he recommended either extending the cycling of the Smartwave Controller so there will be more quiet time between each annoying pop sound, not acceptable to me, or upgrade to the Wavemaker 2 / Wavemaker 4 with a Koralia 12VDC pump. The tech responded that all their DC circulation pumps do not have the popping issue because DC always runs in the correct direction. Now let me add if you have a very loud tank or a tank in a loud area, you might not care about the popping sound, so you will enjoy the benefit of these pumps with the Smartwave Controller. So, what if you didn't purchase or don't want to use the advanced features of a Smartwave Controller, well, let's just say all is actually very good. After the pumps are running, they are quiet with a small amount of low tone hum, barely audible, and therefore, I would say a good purchase for "non-controller based" usage. I will add that Hydor support was very quick to pickup the phone and Hydor was very helpful and pleasant.

I like products that live up to their claim. This one does. Great power and suction. I may even purchase another. Works that well. Albeit, the price may make me wait a bit as I think I may find the item cheaper elsewhere. Notwithstanding, good product for what you need it to do

Great magnet
The product came late , didn’t include an English plug and was so noisy it made me think something was missing. I did rate the magnet fitting, so salvaged that and used it on the next wavemaker I bought. Overall thoughts - rubbish

Great circulation pumps for 75 gallon marine aquarium.
The Hydor Koralia Evolution 1400/1500 circulation pump arrived quickly and in good working order. It's now installed in my 75 gallon marine aquarium. It's quiet and has good flow. I like how the new pumps have the fish guard built-in. My old circulation pumps had guards that had to be attached and while they were in use for quite some time they did fall off which can be an inconvenience to retrieve from the bottom of the tank.

I purchased both the 550/600 and 750/850 and was extremely surprised at how much weaker the 550/600 was in comparison to the 750/850 despite being rated only 150-250 GPH less. Never knew that would cause such a dramatic difference in flow. I also made sure my 550/600 was not a dud, and it wasn't. You can check on YouTube. There's a video that demonstrates the 550/600 flow and 750/850 flow using UV coated pellets and you can see the dramatic difference between the two.. I suggest getting the 750/850 instead of the 550/600.

Best wave maker!!
THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANT!! Don't bother trying to buy a cheaper one, all the others just don't last! The Hydor is silent and powerful! The magnet makes placement very easy! (ALWAYS SLIDE UP OR DOWN TO REMOVE) Will definitely be buying more for my other tanks.
