Brand:Tetra

3.5/5

Inexpensive heater
I liked the inexpensive price, but it was very short in size for a he depth of my tank.

cheap thermometer
First I don't use it for aquarium. Preset at 80 degrees I think because I keep my compost thermometer in bucket. I use it to grow bacteria in a 5 gal. bucket like proofing yeast to put on my garden. Rocks a steady 80 degrees, cheap and easy. The little suction cups don't suck but is on an inside of a plastic 5 gallon bucket. Just wanted to give an honest review as I don't use this in aquarium, but for you haters I gave it 5 stars and reported how I use it.

Two Reviews of the in One (10 gallon tank and 20 gallon tank)
My Setup I have two of these heaters (both are the version that is supposed to work for up to 30 gallons) since I have two tanks. One is 10 gallons and the other is 20 gallons. My house is kept at 73 degrees Fahrenheit and the heater is placed next to or below the filter. My 20 gallon also has an air pump/air stone setup at the far side of the tank. Starting with the 10 gallon tank (5/5 stars) I bought this heater at Petsmart (for $25.99 which is MUCH more expensive than the about $10 listing on Amazon). I paired it with the "Top Fin® Colorpop TM Aquarium Starter Kit with 7 Color-Changing LEDs" I got for $40. So far the light has never not been green (aka it's always been at the "right" temperature which I confirmed with a thermometer) other than for a few minutes when I was doing 90% water changes during my betta fish's aquarium salt baths (makes sense so no worries there). So far so good. Now for my 20 gallon tank.... (4/5 stars) I bought this heater here at Amazon for $10.45. There could be a ton of reasons for the difference in quality (the price, where I bought it, the more powerful filter and having an air stone which provide more water flow, etc). I often see the light switch between the red and green light every.... 30 minute to an hour(? I am unsure the exact time frame but compared to my 10 gallon that never reaches the red light, this is definitely different). So this means the temperature is dropping quicker(?) and needs more heating. Final Thoughts I would still recommend this heater as a cheap alternative for a 20 gallon tank (or just to have as a cheap backup heater) but I would also really recommend investing a little more for a heater that give you more control over it's temperature, especially if you keep your house 75 degrees).

Durable
I have used these heaters in the past and I have never been disappointed. Does keep my aquarium at the correct temperature and these heaters last a long time. Great heater, thank you!

It is really submissive!
Water and electricity just don’t mix which U have learned and told all my life. And here I am putting the heater in the aquarium water thinking that I was going to electrocute my fish and me.

Small but mighty...
So far so good. I love the preset temperature so I don't have to mess with adjusting it myself because that takes a long time and is a pain in the a**. I have it in my 40 gallon tank and it has no problem keeping it the perfect temp. It's also much more compact and easier to hide than some of the older super long heaters. You can easily put it horizontal and still keep it hidden and then you don't have to worry about it being exposed and getting damaged if you let your water get too low.

Does NOT keep tank at 78
It says it's plus or minus 2 degrees, but it isn't. It's just minus 2 degrees. This does NOT get my tank over 76 degrees.

Does exactly what it was designed for.
Great little heater. Does exactly what it was designed for. I don’t know why people are saying they don’t see the green light when the heater reaches it’s set temperature. The green light I noticed turns on briefly when it reaches 80 degrees and then turns off. You need to be looking at it exactly at the right time it turns on otherwise it will turn off. I’ve been using it for almost a month now and my fish are having a good time.

Heartbroken and definetly won't be repurchasing
Apparently these heaters have no safety feature that prevents them from overheating/shutting off because I came home from work to find my two beautiful communities of fish all dead because both heaters malfunctioned. Please save your money and invest in a better quality heater for your fish

Perfect so far
I bought three of these for my mini tanks (two 5g and a 2g) and started by putting one in the 2g overnight to test if it would overheat - it did not. It kept it at 78deg just as advertised. Then last night I put one in a 5g, and did the same. So as for the advertised ‘2g to 10g’, I can attest to it working properly in a 2g and a 5g. But my 10g is not currently set up… maybe an update someday soon. :) Update: I have been these in 2 five gallon tanks for a few weeks now. I check the temperature in both tanks twice per day. Dead on 78* every time, and the temperature in my house tends to yo-yo between 60* and 70* throughout the day. I have the tanks set up such that the intake for the filter and the outflow are at opposite ends of the tank, and the heater is in the middle. This gives it the best opportunity to do its job… this might have something to do with other peoples bad experiences…(?) Update 2: I tried using one of these on my 10 gallon tank, and it couldn't get to 78°. Maybe in a tank with no water movement, it might work...? I bought the next one up and it works perfectly.

Tertible mato a mis peces

Almost killed my fish!!!
Almost killed my fish. Worked fine for weeks and then out of no where started acting out and over heating the tank. Good thing betta's are resilient... it heated my tank up 10 degrees higher than it should have been and it felt like bath water temp. NOT OKAY!!! Will be looking for a far better option that will keep my fish alive. Extreme waste of money and very unhappy with this product.

Wrong temperature.
I am not impressed with this Tetra heater. It doesnt have an adjustable temperature control, which would be fine IF it kept the right temperature... It says it keeps the temp at 78, but in my 3 Gallon aquarium it hasnt even been able to hit 75... Also, it says there is a light which turns from RED to GREEN, RED=Heating, GREEN=Arrived at temperature, mine goes from RED to OFF... There is NO GREEN light... So, maybe its defective right out of the box.
