Great for sailboat.
Ordered this product to solve the problem of getting our dog on and off our sailboat safely here in Mexico. Bought the side door entry kit (intended for cars) to hold the ramp tight to the cap rail and lifelines on the boat. Worked perfectly. The rubber grips at the top end of the ramp seem to protect the cap rail teak from scratches quite well. Also installed two all-weather castor wheels on the ramp bottom so it would easily move on the dock as the the boat moves back & forth with wind & waves without damaging the boat or ramp. Works great, the dog loves it, and it can still be folded with the wheels on it. Stores on deck folded and snugged to the lifelines. Not sure how well the metal hinge will hold up to salty air, but so far so good. DWR aboard s/v Rhapsody

Heavy
Works great, but it is heavy and can pinch your fingers while folding.

FANTASTIC PET RAMP, MY PET TOOK TO IT QUICKLY!
UPDATE: 6/20/16: We have now owned this PetStep Folding Pet Ramp for about 3 full years, and just wanted to let everyone know who may be considering purchasing this ramp, after 2 to 3 New England winters outside in various amounts of snow, freezing rain, sleet, you name it, I can confidently say this ramp shines! Day in and day out, the weather doesn't affect this ramp. Sure, the sun may have altered the khaki color a bit, but it is still as perfect as when we purchased it. My beagle uses it every day to go up and down our deck steps to our back yard. We also carry it with us for our motorhome. She uses it on the steep motorhome steps, and it's easy to fold in half and store behind our sofa in the back of the van. We were fortunate to purchase this used, and it looked brand new, so we really got a good deal on it. I'd pay the price listed now if I had to, but I have a feeling (knock on wood) that this ramp will outlast us all! END OF UPDATE. First, let me say that I've only had this ramp for approximately one week, and normally I don't believe in posting reviews so quickly. I planned to post a review of this product in about a month, but had to post this early in case it helped someone else in our situation with their dog. So here is/was our situation. Out of the blue one day while on vacation, my dog screamed in pain when walking up the 3 steps to our motorhome. It was so heartbreaking and she ended up at a pet ER while we were traveling. She was put on pain medication until we returned home. After many unsuccessful vet visits, it was determined by a specialist that our beagle has luxating patellas (kneecaps that pop out of joint). She would always walk fine on level ground where no steps were involved. So we had been carrying her inside her metal crate up and down our outside deck steps so she could do her thing! A 25 lb. beagle AND a metal crate that has to weigh at least 15 lbs conservatively! This had been going on since this past May when she experienced her first incident of obvious pain when going up steps. I looked and researched many ramps, but this one was the only one made with a rubbery surface, although I think the entire ramp is some sort of plastic, but with incredibly good traction. I did what another reviewer suggested, laid it flat on the floor inside of the house and within a day, with some coaxing and food, she easily walked back and forth over it that way. Well, today, I decided to put it outside on the steps down to our patio, and didn't think she'd take to going down the ramp, much less up the ramp, right away. Once again, food did the trick! She didn't even hesitate, and walked down the ramp to retrieve the food, and back up again to retrieve the food, as my husband stood at one end, and I the other. So in less than a week, she has really taken to it much more quickly than I expected. So if anyone is on the fence about it, I highly recommend it, and the weather probably won't hurt it since it's made of hard plastic and rubber. It has one little latch to fold it shut, but I just carry it sideways folded under my arm like a suitcase to move it if needed. It will really prove to be a back saver for both my husband and myself!

is really helping my Rottweiler get up and down my front steps (she has torn ligaments in both knees)
I got this for my Rottweiler to use to go up the three front steps to my house from ground level. And even though I've only been using it for a short time, I'm very happy with it. It was definitely worth the extra money to get this ramp as opposed to any of the others. My Rottie is only about three years old but she is having problems with her joints. She has inflammatory bowel disease, so she is on a high dose of prednisone to suppress her symptoms. Unfortunately, this high dose of prednisone has resulted in a significant loss of muscle mass (over 10 pounds lost). This resulting loss in muscle mass has made her knees less stable. She had a torn CCL (a ligament equivalent, basically, to the ACL in a human) in one knee and she tore the CCL in her other knee by overusing the "good" knee. So she has a whole host of problems to deal with. Plus, I just moved into a house a few weeks ago, and it has some kind of steep front steps. My dog is having a lot of trouble negotiating these steps, especially with her knee injuries. So I wanted a ramp to make it easier on her. My dog weighs about 82 pounds right now. This ramp holds her weight although it (the ramp) is maybe a little flexible. It is certainly not appropriate for a person to walk on (I tried), but the way a dog's weight is distributed is different from a human's, and this held up my dog perfectly well. There are rubberized ridges all up and down the face of the ramp, so the dog doesn't slip at all. The width is perfectly fine for a dog the size of mine. And this sits securely on my step -- it's been there all day and hasn't moved an inch. This weighs under 20 pounds so I don't find it too heavy (a box of cat litter weighs more, by comparison). Of course, since I am using it at my house, it is staying in place and I am not having to transport it. It folds and unfolds easily. As for getting the dog to use it, mine picked it up very quickly. (I'm actually quite proud of her...) The first three time, she wouldn't use it. The fourth time, I put some kibble on the ramp (spread out from top to bottom) and she walked up the ramp, eating the kibble. Since, she has gone up and down numerous times -- all with kibble on the ramp at this point. Eventually I am going to stop using the kibble, but for right now, she needs that little extra incentive. Still, I was encouraged by how quickly she understood what to do. This is a neutral color. One thing to note: a large portion of mine was discolored (yellowish instead of brown). This did not affect the quality or performance so I plan to just use the ramp as-is. This is so much easier on her knees, and I love that she can't slip.

the rubber textured ridges are amazing and our dog now walks up calmly and even ...
2021 Update! Fantastic Ramp and held up to years of use and abuse and BC winters, rain, mud, sand and two 55lb dogs. I use on a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander on the side door and rear drop down tail gate and our 2009 Honda Civic. I did just recently get a side door adaptor, so I could angle the ramp more away from the door, as our older dogs were starting to struggle with the interior of the car door protruding into the walking surface and it has been made even better I got the Solvit side door adaptor which is not made for this ramp and I obviously can't attest to the saftly of this, being used on a non compatible ramp but I have found it to be a great fit and it is more than secure enough for two 55 lb dogs. I originally bought the Pet Gear green mat covered bi-fold ramp but my dog was NOT keen on the texture and we found that she could not get her nails in it to grip as described. This ramp is very unique...the rubber textured ridges are amazing and our dog now walks up calmly and even waits half way if I go to stroke her while saying good girl. The other ramp made her rev up first and then dart up like a crazy girl so as to not be on it too long and this action caused a few accidents. It is heavy (to me) and took a bit of getting used to how I needed to position myself for the best way to unfold and fold away. I now have it sorted and while it is still heavy, the way my dogs especially the fussy girl use it, makes that small issue unimportant. I do wish they would make a shorter version as we have a Honda Civic and this longer length isn't needed. It is a tight fit for the rear door on a Honda Civic and has to go at a slight tilt but because the tread is so good the dogs have no issue. I LOVE IT! oh and we even tried it on a hire car Jeep and it was quite steep and I thought my fussy girl wouldn't manage as the other Pet Gear ramp even on a low incline freaked her out, but she went straight up and I could see her gripping her paws into the rubber ridges with no problem and a lot of confidence.

The best ramp for my dog
I have a big and tall golden retriever and I bought a ramp when he was young. He refused to use it. Now that he is 12 and also 90 pounds, it was impossible for him to jump down the back anymore. I have read reviews of that ramp and there were so many people that said it was a great ramp that I decided to buy it. Let me tell you, this is the best purchase I have made in a long time. Even if the ramp wasn't cheap, it is worth it. Pros: 1- I love the fact that this is a long ramp so the incline is not too crazy when in use. It is also larger than some others and has slightly raised edges. My dog is not as scared to fall because of that. 2- I also like the fact that the floor is kind of rubbery and ribbed somehow. This provides great traction to the dog. Better than the fake sandpaper texture some other ramps have. 3 - It is a bit heavy still manageable, sturdy easy to fold and to carry. There is a special notch to put your hand. I trained my dog inside first, with the ramp open on the ground, and made him cross the ramp a couple of times every day. As he was doing it, I had a cookie in my hand and he was just following the smell. Then I moved outside where we have a step and repeated the exercise again with the reward of the cookie each time he crossed. Then finally use it in the trunk (hatch back) the same way. Then he started doing it super easily without following the cookie, but with a cookie as a reward every time he reached the ground. Now he almost runs down. No fear at all and he loves it. Thanks for a fabulous product. I can go to walk my dog anywhere and to the vet without anybody to help me carry him down.

Solid ramp and easy to use
I bought this ramp for my dog when he has a knee injury (he's approx 90lbs). It worked really well while he needed it. Super quick and easy to set up, was grippy enough for the dog. The only thing that could be improved is the weight and size but I'm not sure how that could be achieved if you want a sturdy ramp. I always buckled it inside my car with a small rachet to the hooks in the car. I recommend this ramp if you're looking for a good quality one that your dog will trust to go up and down.

Good for SUV not for pick up truck
This is great for my pup who only has three legs. She can get in th SUV easy. Note that it's too short for the pick up truck box, the angle of the ramp is too steep for a truck, pups have a hard time. Even my 4 legged one had trouble in the truck box. Other thing is, be careful for your fingers!! I only squeezed my finger in it once before I learned how to properly handle it, but that once was painful and my nail turned purple. You get the hang of it and it doesn't happen again once you figure it out. They actually have it pretty well built to keep your fingers safe.

Very good product
Very good quality, a bit heavy but hold without moving in the stairs. Unfortunately my dog who was scare of wood bridge seem to associate it and don’t want to use it outside. She accepted to use it lying on the floor inside but once outside no more. I returned it but would not hesitate to recommend it.
