Not as good as the bigger brothers, but good.
Purchased this about 3 weeks ago. I bought it to do some small boxes and finial work to augment some lidded vessels and such. I have 3 of the Barracuda 2 chuck sets and love them, so based on my experience with them I bought this. For background, I also have a Vicmarc 120 chuck for my VB 36 lathe as well, and Multistar chuck for some other stuff I do. I use the Barracudas on my Jet 1642 and, as said, really like them very well. My specific complaint is that the either the chuck key or the gearing in the chuck itself aren't machined as well as the bigger brothers, and so the key doesn't engage smoothly, or easily, and tends to slip out when tightening. One has to put way more pressure on it to get the gearing to engage to make sure that the work piece is secure in the chuck. If there were some other problem I'd have given it 4 stars instead of 3, but since this is an issue that occurs every time I use it. Otherwise this chuck is as well finished and the jaws are every bit as well made as the larger models. I'd still buy another if the need arose and hope that next time I'd have better luck with the key.

Works well except for the key
I really like this chuck and it works well for its intended purpose - except for the key. Thus the 3 stars. On the unit I received, the key is very difficult to locate. I have to insert the key - it almost never locates - and then 'wobble' the key handle around until it locates. OK, minor annoyance. But then when tightening the chuck the key has a tendency to lose mesh. So I have to repeat the entire process, and often the key loses mesh a second or third time. I wouldn't buy this chuck again but on the other hand, it's good to have on the shelf.

Nice but....REVISED
I bought this because I wanted a small dia chuck that wouldn't mangle my fingers when working close to the headstock. I make small boxes, Xmas icecicles, etc. It does a fine job except the pin jaws mount with only one screw and there is a small amount of play in the mounting guides. This makes for a slightly out of round (less than 1/32) turning. Please note- I hold the piece by around 1/4" spigot. If I used something longer (1/2-3/4) it would probably stabilize itself. Overall it is a nice chuck for small detail work. I'd buy it again. 2/25/12.. I DID buy a second chuck. This has turned out to be my go to chuck when I want a small lightweight chuck to handle the items I turn. I wouldn't recommend it for 6+ inch bowls or for rough turning really out of ballance logs, but if you make boxes, finials, ornaments, pens, bud vases and stuff like that you'll be very happy with this chuck. And the price is right!!

A Must for Minilathes
I have two Nova Mercury minilathes and have been hesitant to use chucks weighing three pounds and more on them, but the 2 1/8 inch, 1 pound PSI Barracuda Microchuck meets my needs perfectly. The chuck is well-balanced and all the sets of jaws fit perfectly. I have used all three sets and am hard-pressed to find adequate expression for my satisfaction. This little fellow is an absolute gem. I do not plan to use it for large projects. I use the #2 jaws to grip 1X1 pieces up to 5 inches long when I make finials. The pin jaws are ideal for inside grip on small face turnings, and the step jaws are great for gripping small tenons. If you plan on larger work don't buy this chuck, but for miniwork on a minilathe there is nothing better on the market. I just ordered another because I hate to have to change jaws, but at this price I can afford two of them (maybe even three).

Awesome chuck !!
The Barracuda micro lathe chuck is so much more than micro.....the several sets of jaws that come with it make it a maxie chuck, capabilities only limited to you your imagination. Drawbacks are minimal, the screw chuck needs a shoulder, and the tightening key needs better machining of the gear part. I fixed this with a file and the problem went away. This is an outstanding unit and worth every penny !!

Very happy with this chuck for my Jet Mini Lathe
This is an outstanding chuck set for my Jet Mini Lathe. It has three four jaw chucks and a screw fitting. It is easy to mount on the lathe and includes an adapter in the event that your lathe has a 3/4 x 16 tpi fitting. The chuck key works well and the jaws open and close easily to grip your wood. The entire kit includes a plastic form fitted case. The item was delivered in a timely manner and in great shape.

Great Chuck for the money
It's small, it's heavy, it's very well built. You get 3 sets of jaws and they all work very well. Easy to change out and easy to mount. Only issue I have had is the Chuck Key. It's not the best fit and sometimes is hard to get installed
