Great product.
This is a great product and does what it is expected to do. The only issue I have and that is why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is I had to locktite the shaft into the adapter because it kept coming loose. Even after yhay the nut still comes loose sometimes and allows my pen blank to spin. It's annoying but not the end of the world.

It WILL work in a three jaw chuck
I asked the question about this working in a three jaw chuck. The answers I received made no sense, so I ordered one to find out. The outside of the end designed to screw onto the lathe spindle is machined round and chucks up just fine. I don't have a wood lathe but I do have a small metal lathe and only wanted to do a few items, so this worked out well for me. I didn't have to buy another lathe. To those who answered my question, I appreciate your answers and your concern for my safety. Maybe you didn't understand the question, or I didn't ask it clearly, but your concerns were unfounded. Maybe it wouldn't work in a three jaw chuck designed for a wood lathe, but it works in a metal lathe chuck. As for the mandrel itself, it worked well. Once tightened in the chuck the opposite end aligned perfectly with the live center in the tailstock. Brass tubes and bushings fit the rod. Works great. Recommended.

Great addition to the Shopsmith for pen turning and the like
Great additional tooling for turning pens on the Shopsmith. I needed to file a burr before it would slide on properly, but other than that it works well.

Wood.
First one i received was damaged, but company immediately responded and sent me a replacement. The second one is great for my older lathe, which doesn't have a morse taper in it.

It's a must have for pen turning on an antique Craftsman
I wanted to starry turning pens. This makes it possible to do so on my 1947 Craftsman King Seeley lathe. The aforementioned lathe uses a 5/8 shaft instead of MT 1 or MT 2. My only gripe is, there arent enough spacers for the 1 piece blanks.

Works great for my Shopsmith
This is the second one I bought. The first one bent slightly so I purchased a mandrel saver. This combination works great.

Works perfectly
if you have an older sears lathe that has a 5/8" arbor instead of a drive center on the headstock this is exactly what you need. Works perfectly even with a dead center on the tailstock (grease). Perfectly accurate with no wobble at all, 7 nice steel bushings. Turning some real nice pens with this

good, needs to come with twice the bushings
Works as it should. Need to add your own spacers if you are doing 2 pen blanks.

Arrived with damage to the plastic box it came in, seems reasonable quality, there is a slight bend or tilt to it, but it straightens out between centres and a few light taps with a rubber mallet should do the trick, fits the bushings for my kits well and has a quality finish, worth a shot if you have a cheap lathe like me with no hole through the live end.
